A's ownership not only got cheap signing baseball players but also with Championship Plaza. That is another matter. No more coming here to the Tavern. The bar is opened, but people have to stand in line to order their alcohol beverage. They only have two bartenders to assist the customers.

I said yes fully expecting the food to be worse than what I usually bring with me to the ballpark and the ambiance to be a downgrade from my usual Field Level seats. I can happily report being wrong on both counts. The A's have stepped up their season ticket holder offerings for 2019. Even holders of the smallest ticket packages get an "Access" pass which grants the holder to, among other things, 50% off on ALL food and drink in the park. As my partner put it, "I'm not saving any money. I'm just drinking twice as much". Yep, even the alcohol is 50% off. Talk about a deal. Shibe Park Tavern sits in the park's suite level, above the second level, between home plate and first base. Though there's pool tables, a shuffleboard table, bars, and food I come for the game and want to see the game. Live. SBT features a number of 2-person tables right along the window above (approximately) section 218, with fabulous views of the field. I thought we'd eat and run off to our seats but we sat there until the 9th inning. The very next night I was back to do it again. The food is decent ballpark fare. I sampled a Southwestern Beef Salad ($18 less 50% with Access pass) and a Thai Chicken Salad (both acceptable but ask for extra dressing), a giant Apple Crisp, and excellent Sweet Potato Fries. The menu also has plenty of burgers (even the Impossible Burger) and lots of fried foods and lots of fried fare. They also feature over 50 beers on tap, more if you count those served from the gastropub inside SBT. What I think I most enjoyed on both nights was a split of Chandon reduced to a mere $4.50 with my Access pass. The check-in when you enter SBT takes excessively long and they'll ask to see your game day ticket for reasons that escape me. But both times I've been, they've then taken me to one of those perfect window seats and made no effort to move me along at any point in the evening. SBT is my new hideout for staying warm during a night game, getting some bubbles at the ballpark, and enjoying the view from a comfortable seat. It seems evident, from some complaints I heard, that not everyone leaves as happy as me but after two visits and 18 innings I can honestly say "good job, A's" and why aren't more people becoming season ticket holders? A window seat at Shibe Park Tavern is a fun way to experience the game.

More like BYOB and hope for the best. I'll give credit where it's due: I've met some cool people here, and they're the only thing keeping this place alive. But even they seem tired of the chaos. They will literally take your order while they are on their phone, and it doesn't feel like they acknowledge you or hear you. Maybe I am picky and selective, but I usually don't approach after someone's ordering in case they need to quickly step away or finish the task they were working on -- I'm use to being called "next" or being acknowledged. They also don't give you a number or some sort of marker after they take your order, so it is easy for them to mix up orders which happened. Anyway, the food is always good and so I guess that will have to make up for the experience. The garlic noodles with salt and pepper tofu never miss and always hit. It's never too greasy or underflavored. The spicy korean wings are super good and flavorful too. Not too spicy, definitely a mildness to it, so you can handle it if you don't like something too spicy. Overall, I'd come back to pick up a to-go order, but I won't dine in person again.
