Funny thing, I lived in the area for about a year and never once ate there. A few years later, family moved into the area and they insisted on coming here for dinner. The wait to be seated was minimal and we were given a run down of the specials in case we missed them on the board when we entered. It was not long after we ordered that our plates arrived piping hot and full of flavor, All I wanted was a vegetable platter and there was definitely enough food on the plate to satisfy my hunger and that's not including the muffins/biscuits that were brought to the table. Small town diner feel. The fried chicken strips were satisfactory but not outstanding. They were the home cooked typed instead of the pre packaged breaded that you find in chain restaurants. The baked potato was excellent other than the "ball park spicy nacho cheese" slathered on if you order it loaded. The fried okra was standard "out of the frozen bag" fare. Rolls were excellent and cornbread was decent. The super star was the salad bar. It was an additional $4-5, can't remember which. It had all the basics, plus some. It was very well kept and clean. The lettuce was crisp and fresh and all the options were outstanding. Crackers were included with the salad bar. Service was lacking as they appeared understaffed for lunch. We did not have anyone offer refills or check on us during our meal and a lady from the cooking area brought our food. This is a place to find some good country cooking with things like fried catfish and beans, an assortment of sandwiches, and a salad bar. I was glad to see the veggies. When in Rome... Honestly, there's not much in this area. So in picking somewhere for lunch, this seemed to be the best option. Pretty sure the building is an old Wendy's. People were friendly, seated quickly, and food was fine. Was anything spectacular? No. Good burger, good chicken tenderloin sandwich, good fries and onion rings. I discovered Dumplin's many years ago while my mother and I were in Scottsville to work on our family genealogy. We were planning to go to another restaurant which ended up being closed so we stopped in to try Dumplin's instead. Since then it's become one of my favorite restaurants! The service is always on point, the prices are great and the food awesome with large portions. The country fried steak is MASSIVE and so tasty, and the catfish plate has so much it's hard to finish. The sides are really good and they have a salad bar also. You simple can't go wrong! Definitely the best place in Scottsville to eat. We stayed at an Air BnB after visiting the mammoth caves and decided to come here for dinner after finding a brochure of this restaurant at our AirBNB. Eating here was a very happy experience. Great food spot in Scottsville. There aren't too many restaurants in this town to begin with. I dident know what to expect coming here. The group I was with just called this place DUMPLINGS. They described it as good American stick to your ribs type of food. They were right. When you first walk in there is a great special board listing all of the specials for the day. The staff was nice and we were seated promptly. I noticed all over the walls were artifacts and articles about the history of this town. The food was good. I ended up just getting a club sandwich. The girls I was with had the catfish bites and the shrimp. I guess the big thing at dumplings is anything fried. I noticed a lot of people had fried chicken or catfish. I did try some of the shrimp. It was really good. I know what your thinking middle of the country not by a ocean how good can the shrimp be? Let's just say I was impressed and prob will order shrimp my next visit! We always enjoy this place every time we stop in Scottsville. I've had the steak, fish, chicken tenders, hamburgers, salmon, and this last time enjoyed the meatloaf! Our son heard of this place where he works in Bowling Green. Upon arriving we wondered what we had gotten ourselves into. Entering the place around 4pm, the lot was a little more than half filled. Most of the customers were seniors. There were lots of old as in old photographs of the area. We were seated and greeted by a wonderful waitress with a great personality. Our daughter got th3 salad bar saying it was good, but wished it had something other than iceberg lettuce. My wife had a vegetarian style dinner of 4 side items which she loved. Our son-in-law had chicken livers (rare in restaurants) and they were the best he'd ever had. I had the BBQ chicken with Cole slaw and cottage cheese. The slaw was grand, but the chicken was super! We pulled in at noon on Sunday and had to wait for a parking spot. That's how you know an out-of-the-way, off the beaten path restaurant is doing something right. Our party of 3 waited for just a few minutes for a table to open up. We were greeted by our phenomenal waitress, Lorie. She was amazing from start to finish! We didn't have the salad bar but it seemed to be a popular option. It looked really fresh and I noticed it was tended to by staff often. As soon as we sat down, we were greeted with a basket of rolls and cornbread muffins. They had a huge special selection menu which we all ordered off of. All of our food was hot and fresh and we were impressed with each of our dishes. The prices were surprisingly well within budget which was nice. Lorie brought us piping hot, fresh rolls straight from the oven which was an added bonus. The delicious dinners we had included meatloaf, chicken and dumplins, sweet potato casserole, potato salad, Mac-n-cheese, dressing, gravy and corn nuggets. For dessert, we took Lorie's suggestion and ordered the Red Velvet Cheesecake to go. Wow!!! It did not disappoint! It was enough for all 3 of us to share.
