The two star rating was based on our server. Who was very good. We had reservations for 10 booked a month ahead of time and we had to wait over 25 minutes for our seats. The setup was quickly put together and was a too close to the fireplace. It was extremely hot. The food was 50/50. We had to send back a steak as it was cold and under cooked. The clam chowder was very good.No management came to apologize of offer a complimentary drink or finger food. I doubt if we will ever go again. read more

Large plate of old lettuce with a very little piece of chicken that was so over cooked, it was difficult to swallow. 25% capacity with a lot of staff present to supply top notch service. This Earls has really gone down hill in the past year. The food is overpriced and not good value for money and the famous clam chowder is so watery now it's obvious they are cutting corners. Attention to details like; waters, cutlery, empty drinks, new ppl arriving etc just nobody cares!! Wonderfull staff. Sat us near the window, we requested to be sat elsewhere where its warmer They offered us a hot tea and a place near the fireplace .was extremely pleasant and sweet. I had the cajun oven roasted salmon. I found it super salty but tasty. Moist and crunchy exterior. And i had their garlic mash instead of the rice. Perfection! And the asparagus was great too! I also had the coconut mint margarita they were 9$ BUT SO WORTH IT omg felt like i was on a Mexico vacation. My husband had their caeser drink he said it was kind of weird with the meet stick placed in the mason jar glass. Which was also a bit weird. Caesers should not be in a mason jar... just so odd. My friend and I walked in only to interrupt the 2 hostesses personal conversation and see a Q-tip on the floor which they both saw too and neither wanted to pick up until I politely said something about it looking gross on the floor of where we were about to eat at! We were then seated by one of the "not so friendly" hostesses. Our server was at least kinda friendly and nice. I ordered the chicken tacos without cheese as I am dairy intolerant but my tacos seemed to be gooey like they had cheese on them. Our server assured that the kitchen made them without cheese but I had a hard time enjoying them and didn't finish them. The house salad without feta like I asked for tasted ok tho. For the price I paid, the food was expensive for what it was! Meh... As for the service staff with the exception of our server, they were dragging their feet, looking miserable and acting snarky if we made eye contact. Also, long hair should be tied back and I saw several servers wearing their hair long loose. Ya, looks nice but extremely un-appetizing if a customer finds a strand in their food! When we were leaving, the 2 hostesses looked at up us but continued another personal conversation. No closing/leaving greeting at all. No nothing except snarky-ness! To me, that is rude! Like, wow!! I'm really not an Earl's person. It's not that the food is terrible. It's that it's not anything spectacular, especially for the price. If I'm going out, I don't want to pay Bistro/Brasserie prices for just ordinary food and drink. I have friends who are fans though, well, one, who lives in Japan most of the year. I had the fish and chips platter (lunch size) for lunch. It came with a bowl of chowder (all right, but a little thin and cool), some fries (best part of the plate), a fillet of battered fish (obviously overcooked, yet they served it) and some coleslaw (really just some shredded cabbage). In fact, the warmest thing on the plate was the plate itself. Why put cold food on a nuclear hot plate? And shouldn't the coleslaw have come in a chilled dish since it was supposed to be cold? In the end, it was all edible, but worth $15.60? Yes, if the food were perfectly cooked and seasoned or special in some way, but it just never is. My Stella was $8.65, though it did come in a chilled glass. Let me just sum it up this way. I ordered a bottle of San Pellegrino instead of another Stella after the meal. I was lunching with an old friend and catching up after some time, so I wanted something to sip while we were talking. So, the waitress brings a chilled bottle of San Pellegrino (hooray) and a red wine glass full of ice (what???). The reason one buys a bottle of mineral water is to avoid drinking the tap water (which would be free). Why, then, if the bottle is cold, as it was, would I want to pour my mineral water over frozen tap water? Even if the bottle was not cold, you can apply the ice to exterior of the bottle to cool the mineral water inside. If a European waiter were to bring out a glass of ice with a bottle of mineral water (way more expensive over there) in Germany, France or Italy, the patron would likely dump it out on the floor. If you asked them for ice with your mineral water, you'd get that poor retarded child look the Americans get. I just told them I wouldn't need the ice, which astonished them. I was assured that many of their customers ask for ice. I'm sure they do; they also think they're eating bistro. In any case I managed to get rid of the ice and enjoy my San Pellegrino undiluted. It could just be a Red Deer thing. My San Pellegrino in Edmonton comes without ice. It's like they have mineral water, but they really aren't sure what it's for. Same thing, unfortunately, applies to the food. Earl's was fine in University when we didn't know what good food was and played dress up and go out, but you can get so much more for your money, even in Red Deer. read more

Went there for our date night and ordered a bunch of apps for a nice relaxing night. Well... calamari and the dragon bowl were the only things worth ordering again. Ceaser salad was boring and bland. Dressing tasteless, parmesan cheese was just just the little grated stuff you could buy from sobeys, and most of all NO BACON BITS!!! I met up with three friends here on an impromptu lunch date today, only to have a waitress bombard us every couple minutes to either take our order or ask to take our plates away (even if we weren't quite finished eating). To start off the service was pitiful. When I ordered the appetizer special for the day "chicken tacos" I was under the impression they were only costing me $5.00 so I oredered two orders of them under the impression given by the "nice so-called waitress" that there was 2 tacos per order. So I ate the tacos and to be honest they weren't even all that great. I get the bill afterwards and find out that the tacos came to $29.00 !!!! So i had a big discussion with the waitress and was trying to tell her there was a misunderstanding with the order, her reaction was rude and blunt to the point that I should have already known that it was $5.00 per taco! I couldn't believe my ears.So I had enough of her attitude paid my bill and left biteing my tongue after paying almost $30 for 4 tacos.... Never again will I eat at Earls if they hire waitresses like that. read more

I have been to this location as well as many other Earls and this was by far one of the most disappointing visits ever. The quality of their food has greatly diminished from the crappy and crumbly calamari to the overlooked penne and tasteless alfredo sauce to their new 'quinoa and avocado power bowl that had half of an avocado and a sprinkling of quinoa over lettuce. Earls...you used to be one of the top 3 restaurants in town, now the only reason I may come back again is for the clam chowder...and I realllllly hope you haven't messed with that!! read more

Not sure why so many complaints ?? anyways I've loved this restaurant and have never had any issues and over all the years the once or twice i did have an issue it was handled on the spot in a professional courteous manner. The food is always fresh and tasty, served by someone who cares and the beer is always good and fresh. I think how busy the restaurant is 24-7 explains for itself the calibre of restaurant Earls is. We went there as a party of 6. 3 out of 3 steak dinners were over cooked. They asked if we wanted to eat the sides while waiting for our steaks. Obviously we wanted to fill up on sides while we waited for the steaks. They did refire but by the second steak being over done i felt defeated in the purpose of having a nice family dinner on vacation. We were comped the steak entrees 3 out of 6 even though it disrupted the whole dining experience. My kids were done their meals by the time our meals had gotten there. They had also implied they would comp the entire bill. I left because my kids were impatient, having 1 bite of my meal. We were charge just over $100 for one of the worst restaurant experiences of my life. I've been too many yummy restaurant and have went back because they address the situation properly... I use to love going to Earls. This has left a bad taste in my mouth. I am not sure I will be going back. I recommend if you are going to Earls not to visit the location in red deer. read more

I haven't been to an Earls in years and was surprised to find it's terrible now. I can't recall when we have had worse service at a restaurant. Both the hostess and waitress were barely civil, the floor was dirty under the table and there was a piece of paper in my potatoes. On top of that, the prices are so high for what little you get. Earls is fairly consistent for an okay meal or appetizer if you don't want anything too exciting. They are too expensive for what you get but they stay open late and that's usually what gets us there. We were there recently and ordered the nachos. They were so boring - just plain old baked nacho chips with cheese really baked on them with a tortilla type bowl filled with guacamole (brown), salsa (thick and I mean thick), and sour cream. We also ordered the chicken strips and that was pricey for five of the smallest little strips you've probably ever seen. But they did taste good but for the price, not worth it. The dry ribs we ordered came out strewn about on a little white plate. Not very appealing and, again, boring. But they tasted okay. When we entered the establishment, the hostess came out and looked at the people ahead of us and grabbed the menus and exited to show them their table. It would have been nice if she had acknowledged us and said that she'd be right with us - something, anything, but we got nothing, not even a smile. But our server was friendly and perky. Good thing. For the prices of their items, they really need to improve the quality and, particularly, the presentation of the food. read more

I went to Earls in Red Deer for lunch a few weeks ago with a friend as I have always enjoyed their menu and have never yet been disappointed. I ordered chicken tacos. I had to dig to find the chicken but found several nuggets under the greens. The slices of avocado covering the greens were old - striped with brown streaks. I was disappointed but not going to complain at this point however when I couldn't wrap the tortilla as it was so dried out it broke into pieces, I returned it to the wait staff and ordered a good old reliable bowl of clam chowder. After a few spoonfuls, I realized it was sour. My friend had the same soup and agreed. I informed the manager who was pleasant and apologized . He later came to our table to confirm that the soup was indeed sour and he did not charge us for our meals. Although I appreciate the apology, I don't feel the compensation of not charging me for what I couldn't eat was enough for me to want to return to this Earls Restaurant. I've given this rating one star as both the manager and the wait staff were pleasant. read more

Took a diabetic and blind friend out to dinner last week. Wanted the chef to leave half the noodles off the plate because of her diabetic dietary restrictions and was refused. Was told by the evening manager (with attitude) that it would be wasteful. Even offered to pay extra for them to adjust the dish. I explained that my friend would not be able to eat all the noodles because of her diabetes and they would just have to throw them away anyway....but not a chance. I also explained that because she was also blind it would make it easier for her to eat the vegetables in the dish if there were not so many noodles, but no, we were just told over and over that would be wasteful. It took over an hour for our meal to get to us. Our server was excellent but the 'chef' and the manager were completely disrespectful. Complained to head office who apologized and said the Red Deer management would be calling.....haven't heard a word from them. Will never walk back into any Earl's ever again. read more
