When we asked the locals where to go, The Keg was recommended so we went. We walked in and we were kindly greeted by a gal and we were seated behind promptly.The ambience was very dark and modern which was the best part of our experience. The waitress was very kind and started us with warm and toasty ciabatta bread with cheesy Herby butter (very good) We order a Prime-rib Yorkshire pudding for starters. I ordered French onion soup and risotto for my entree, my husband ordered cheeseburger with Cesar salad. The bread on the Yorkshire pudding was burnt I didn't eat it. My onion soup full of onions but seemed to be lacking something. I ate it but not joyfully. Then out came our entres my risotto and husband cheeseburger presentation was nice; only to be disappointed my risotto lacked the creaminess and smooth texture, the cheeseburger was soggy. :/ read more

The restaurant has deteriorated significantly since our last visit. The food was marginal and the service poor. The evening started badly in the poorly laid out parking lot for a handicapped person with the parking stalls at the far end. The only way to get my mobility scooter on the sidewalk was at the entrance. It was raining and as I travelled toward the entrance on the road a pot hole concealed by the rain caused my scooter to overturn and leaving my clothes wet and dirty. Once inside things didn't improve. A stranger at the next table actually asked me "did they forget about you?" as I waited and my wife tried to consume her questionable prime rib which had to be sent back. This place added little to my wife's birthday dinner. After years we are considering choosing a different restaurant for our occasions in the future. read more

We thought we would try one more time and it is a definite NO. There were 6 of us ; all couples with two elderly couples in their late 60's that went out for dinner. It was busy and our reservation was at 5 pm to enjoy one persons night out for their birthday, valentines day and enjoy life celebration. All six of us ordered steak. 4 out of the 6 steaks were rare "Red rare" and One of these steaks was supposed to be well done. The other steaks were to be med/well. Nope !! one steak out of 5 at a steak house done correctly is simply BS!! The one steak was sent back and probably the other 4 should have been sent back but we all hungry and just ate partial portions of an expensive steak. One of the more mature ladies that was dressed to her best with an expensive pair of pants realized after sitting down for a few minutes that she was stuck to her chair. My god there was green gum, fairly fresh on the front of that chair. So now a dry cleaning bill on her lovely linen pants! Just No, simply no. We will not go back! When I come here I actually skip lunch! My last visit I began the meal with the buttery, melt in your mouth escargot. This dish is so decadent it could make a fine light meal with a salad. My dinner entree was the parmesan crusted Halibut, which was light, flaky, and pairs well with the cooked mini tomatoes and asparagus. The pureed cauliflower mash is one of my favorite sides, but I am interested in trying the asiago rice next time. Our grande finale was the Billy Miner Ice Cream Pie, which was like an adult upgrade of your favorite ice cream cake, with a nice balance of sweetness that was toned down by the coffee flavor. Steak ordered medium, served well done (not an exaggeration). Vegetables overcooked, cold, dry and chewy. Table not clean when we were seated. I know that as steakhouses go The Keg is not a five star establishment, but how on Earth can they be unable to prepare a steak properly, and then serve what I am assuming were old veggies to boot? Given 20% off the bill, but the meal was ruined the moment the steak was put on the table. I was skeptical about this restaurant as a few years ago we didn't have the greatest experience there. However, this time was different and I'm glad we gave it another chance. The food was good, as was the dessert. I had the Bleu Cheese Filet and my husband had the Prime Rib, which was super good. My sister had the Teriyaki Sirloin and my nephew had the New York and both loved their meals, especially the stuffed potatoes. I asked if it was Alberta beef and the server assured me it was so that was good to know for sure. The Crème Brulée was hard to resist as I always try to have only three bites of dessert but failed miserably at self control this time. The Billy Miner Pie was also enjoyed by all. Our steaks were made Chicago style however all resemblance to the required done level was accidental Meat was not a good piece as it was just bad pieces of meet. The Red Deer Keg lives up to the Keg standard. I will admit that I've always been a fan of the Keg and have been going to various ones for years. I visited this Keg and was not disappointed. The steak I had was cooked perfectly to my order and had a delicious portion of vegetables and mashed potatoes as well (I can't recommend the garlic mashed potatoes enough). I also had some crab with my steak that was perfectly boiled and served with a generous portion of melted butter. There was so much food that I couldn't possibly finish it all and took some back with me to eat later (steak and mashed potatoes are still good reheated). Their bartender also mixed all of the drinks I ordered very well, although that is what I expect when I'm paying that kind of money for a drink. Why not 5 stars? Well simply due to the expensive nature of the Keg. We were also being served by a lady learning to be a waitress so the service wasn't always the greatest, but I can't complain about someone still learning the ropes. This is a great Keg...most of them are but this one is the cloest to us now. We usually sit in the lounge area which is most often busy and lively. Sat once in the dining room, but didn't care for it. The servers are all quite young but are eager to serve. The prices are always good for the portion and quality of food you get here. Also good for a drink in the lounge and apps :) read more

Was very very disappointed the last two times we went to this restaurant. I can see having a questionable service and food once, but twice is unforgivable. Took our family of 7 (not cheap) for daughters 16th birthday. Service was ok, but the food was cold, didnt taste very good lobster was so over cooked im sure i could have bounced it off the walls, and just all around NOT great. When it came to taking family out for another daughters 18th birthday we thought we would try the keg again - well.............the waitress acted like we were inconveniencing her any time we asked for anything. When two younger girls asked for refills they NEVER got them. Took 2 hours to get our food - and half was cold. REALLY REALLY POOR service. Was disgusted with the whole experience, specially when it was supposed to be special for our daughters birthdays. Will not be going back here :( read more

My wife and I went the Keg as a "go to" for the few steaks we allow ourselves. The experience was disappointing this time. The food was blah and the atmosphere was dated and dirty. Our server was great but the food was really bad! We had lobster tails and five out of five tails were undercooked, my daughter ordered a steak medium well and it was med rare. Even thou our food was so poorly cooked our bill was still over $100 and there was only four of us......very disappointed and will never go back, it was way over priced! read more

The service was good but slow. Waiting over 30 minutes after our reservation time was frustrating. It took over an hour to get the food after we ordered it but when it came everything was amazing...except the steak. For the price, I was expecting everything to be amazing, especially the steak since it is a "steakhouse". We were all disappointed by the quality of the steak.
