It almost seemed like a dream. From the very start, cruising through a large patch of lotus plants,…read moreit felt otherworldly. Very peaceful, going at our own pace. Enjoyed the cliff walls of Buffalo Rock and the shallow waters of some side passages. We paddled for 5 hours, covering 8 miles total. After we were done we headed to charming, historic downtown Utica for drinks and dinner at Skoog's Pub & Grill in North Utica, IL. I was impressed with the logistics and operation of the kayaking experience, from the guide* to the equipment and online booking process. *Full disclosure, the guide was my twin sister, but I am being objective...seriously.

For this reason I like having tour guides. Going up the river was fine. Coming back went a bit sour. I went as slow as I was capable of paddling or not paddling, but apparently it was too fast for the preference of our tour guide. I was barely touching the water with my paddle. I have no idea how I could have gone any slower. It wasn't humanly possible. After shouting at me several times, he took to chasing me down and ramming my kayak so it'd spin in circles. Would I rent a kayak here and kayak the river alone? Yes. Would I personally use a tour guide here? No I wouldn't. Would I recommend? If you're a family with little kids or a drunk sorority house, absolutely. If you know what you're doing, just go it alone. You'll probably enjoy it more. Edit: If the tour guide had concerns for group safety, he could have said so. Although ramming my kayak with his seems to be a bit of a conflict as far as my safety goes. It was an unprofessional approach when he could have simply explained why he needed me to slow down

If your child has separation anxiety, this may not be the right center for them. This is exactly…read morewhat the director told me. It felt like they expected my child to adjust to daycare very quickly, without providing appropriate support during the transition period. In my experience, the staff did not seem adequately trained to handle children who are experiencing separation anxiety. My son became more distressed, and behaviors such as scratching appeared during his first week, which was not an issue prior to attending this center. He only attended for five days. As a parent, it is concerning to be told that a very young child is showing a behavior they have never displayed before. This raises questions about how the situation was handled and what contributed to that response. I was also told that multiple calls and messages had been made to me, but I did not receive any phone calls or messages. If I had not been actively monitoring the live cameras and gone to the center myself, I am concerned that I would have been unaware of the situation for a much longer period. I am sharing this as a mother, not out of anger or personal conflict, but as an honest concern for other parents who may be in a similar situation.

I rarely leave reviews, but what I've experienced at this daycare is deeply concerning--especially for parents of young children who can't advocate for themselves. There have been multiple situations that made me extremely uncomfortable, including inappropriate staff interactions and handling of children that I would never consider acceptable. I've personally witnessed behavior that raises serious questions about supervision, training, and judgment. If your child is not yet able to clearly communicate what's happening during the day, I strongly urge you to reconsider enrolling them here. That alone should tell you everything you need to know. The staff appears inexperienced, and at times it feels like children are being supervised by individuals who lack the maturity and training required for this type of responsibility. Also, don't be misled by the camera access. While it may give a sense of transparency, it does not capture everything--and that false sense of security is concerning in itself. I would also take the overwhelming number of positive reviews with caution. Based on my experience, they do not reflect the reality I've witnessed.these are from faculty and friends of faculty not real parents You've been warned.
