Some things I wish I knew then that I know now might help others when planning their yards. Yes, Smart Landscape does a lovely job. Here's what would have made my upkeep a lot easier. 1. Extra protection ground cover to eliminate weeds. Some yards get no weeds because a super heavy cover has been used. I've spent countless hours pulling weeds since yards were done. 2. Go over what plants are going to be used. If I'd done that, I would've saved money and work to remove those that had needles that made it difficult/dangerous to remove. 3. If the designer had visited front yard, he would have seen the slight slope and the DG pathway would not have been a logical design choice. Rain washes it away and I'll have to eventually figure out a way to close up that space. 4. At that time, I didn't meet with the designer. I should have. Although it's a lovely design, I would have pointed out a change or two I'd have preferred. 5. Gray DG is not readily available and it has been difficult to keep the pathway refreshed. Someone said that he was going to provide it, but never did. Overall, I am glad I hired Smart Landscape. UPDATE: I needed to come back to add another star after carefully considering how wonderful Danny and his team are to work with. I had met with no fewer than nine landscape companies before Smart Landscape and they were nightmares for various reasons. Danny is wonderful to work with and makes sure the customer is happy.

We didn't bother interviewing any other design firm because we've seen Paul's work around town for years (when he was with Mooch Exterior Designs) and had visited a friend's backyard that he had done. We knew his esthetic and it was exactly what we wanted. From concept to contracting, it was a breeze. We told him our budget, what our vision was and what we wanted our guests to feel when they entered the space. What helped with the design process is he spent time with us, getting to know who we were and getting a sense of how our personalities would translate into the space. Besides the reduction in outdoor space due to the ADU, we had other concerns about privacy, noise and repurposing some of plants and materials that we already had in the yard. What we ended up with was an incredibly thoughtful, purposeful, well-executed design. There were a few times during the construction process we didn't understand why they did what they did or how they were going to do something. In the end, we are so happy we didn't meddle because everything that was done, every decision that was made, every plant and material that was selected, was intentionally. After the job was finished, Maoz followed up with us multiple times to make sure things were exactly how we wanted them and the plants were growing and healthy. They even replaced some grass and plants that were struggling and repositioned the sprinklers to fix the problem. Wow! My wife and I really like how our project came out and working with James Fahy is why. It was…read morea fairly big project in our minds, money wise, time wise, with lots of critical decisions. We had a new front wall, stairs and patio poured from a set of plans an architect drew up 3 years ago. James interpreted the plans, worked as a general contractor managing the concrete work, plumbing, fencing and landscape. When there were problems or questions James always had solutions and found ways to save money in some of the design elements so we could use it in others. And after it was done and we paid up, James' agents Luis and Sid caught me at home to ask if everything had turned out the way we expected. I'm sure they came by other times when I wasn't home to check things out. If I were to make any changes I'd probably reduce the number of lights we installed and I would have eliminated the "topcast" finish on the driveway so it would be more smooth and industrial. I think Ann would have liked a concrete color that was a little less pink. But we were new to this type of design and James helped us with our ideas like the professional he is. We brought ARC in to help us develop a strategy to mitigate moisture intrusion into our garage and improve overall drainage around the property. The scope included tying our downspouts directly into new drains, excavating four feet of soil from a planter opposite the garage wall and waterproofing it, and improving site drainage throughout. In addition, they installed new irrigation valves and valve boxes, drip irrigation, and a Rachio controller. They also finished the project with weed fabric and decorative rock, which really cleaned up the look of the space. ARC was easy to work with, responsive to requested changes, and professional throughout the process. While the long-term moisture performance will take more time to fully evaluate, we appreciate their effort and would absolutely consider working with them again for future landscaping projects.

Not very considerate people. They worked on my neighbor's house for about 3 weeks, making dust…read morefrom cutting bricks and dumping rocks and dirt. There is abrasive dust all over my back yard, side yard and the front of my house. My catio in covered with this dust and my cats are rolling in it and bringing it into my house. I just bought a new car and I've had to have it detailed 4 times. Thankfully I've just managed to make room in the garage for that one. However, my other car has been parked in front of my house this whole time and it has a roughness to the paint from the abrasive dust. Also, one of the trucks making deliveries of stones, dirt and bricks has side swiped the front corner of this vehicle. When asked about it, "not his responsibility" So, I am stuck with the cleanup of all the dust all over my house, a dented vehicle and detailing bills. As a handicapped person, I will have to hire people to clean for me. I cant stand up or walk so I can't do it. The workers making the clouds of dust should have either erected a tent or watered down the stuff they were cutting. I watched the clouds drifting from them to my house and was amazed at their lack of concern. I am very upset and would not recommend this company to my worst enemy!
