My husband and I wanted to replace our dead lawn with some water wise plants, but for several years we couldn't agree on plants/design, etc. I called several landscape contractors, but their prices were too high, and I felt that I wanted to have a really good design first. Kate was able to produce a wonderful, easy to understand plan for improving our front yard. I was dreading having a rock and cactus front yard, but she assured us that we could have a good looking front yard without it looking like we lived in AZ! She listened to us, asked questions and came up with a plan that both my husband agreed upon. We just finished our front yard construction, so we met with Kate again and planned our backyard. Again, she came up with excellent solutions, and next year we will begin the new makeover. Kate is incredibly patient and knowledgable. We used our gardener to help with the front yard, but will probably hire a contractor for the bigger backyard. Now we have the confidence to interview and hire one that we trust. Thanks, Kate!

We now have a beautiful, professional drawing, guidance about what plants to get, photos of the plants, pot dimensions, tips about what nurseries to use, and lists of places where we can get hardscape items such as tables, shade sails, and benches. I had never appreciated just how much more landscape designers know, and how good they are at helping you envision things. Kate stayed for longer than the time promised, and we had three separate meetings during that time. I'm wondering why I didn't do this years ago. Sage was the fastest to respond, and one of only two that did respond, to a request I put out to 8 local landscape architects and designers. I would guess that the others only want to talk with you if you have $100K estate landscapes. Jasmine made me feel welcome immediately and was generous with communication and help throughout. Their website was clear and informative, so I knew just what to expect (though as I say, it went well beyond what I'd hoped for!). Strongly recommend.

Before you contact this firm - you need to know a couple of things. 1) If you don't have "50 to…read more100K" to spend they really don't want to talk to you. 2). Their web site says they do a lot services - many of which I needed - but it seems they aren't interested in those services any more.... and are really after A) the really big projects or B) simple ad hoc irrigation or "cleaning". Literal conversation we had --- After describing abut 8 things I needed I was offered "cleaning services" - and they said does that sound like something you'd like for about $1200? When I turned it on him and said - after I just told you what I needed - does it sound like cleaning services would suit my needs ? Uhm, no?! 3). Their web site says they do "Emergency Tree Removal" and it says EXACTLY " When unexpected storms or emergencies strike, Dave Suda Landscape stands ready to provide rapid and reliable emergency tree removal services across San Diego County. With decades of experience and a team of skilled arborists, we understand the urgency of addressing fallen or hazardous trees promptly. Our emergency response team is available 24/7, equipped with state-of-the-art machinery and tools to handle even the most challenging tree removal situations." I have a lemon tree which is 12 years old and falling over. I wanted an arborist or someone to come quickly to assess my tree / fix my tree / remove my tree and I was offered....wait for it... an irrigation person "who is good at those things". 4) Their web site says they do landscape design, beautiful plantings and softscape solutions, hardscape installations, irrigation work, emergency tree support -- ALL OF WHICH I NEED - but - because I don't plan to spend 50-100K I'm probably not a fit for them. Also note - they say on their web site they have ALL 5 star reviews. Clearly those are not pulled from Yelp - but self selected and published. Seems fishy to me. Even if I had 50K to toss at plants and such I'm confident it wouldn't be with Dave Souda.

I met Kayla and she was nice enough to tour me around and discuss some of my options, even though she's a merchandiser and not a "plant expert". She was so helpful and so kind! The options here are so nice, very elevated from HD or Lowe's, and I found a few fruit trees I'll come back for when I'm ready to execute my vision.

He educated the hubby and I on how to minimize the grubs in my vegetable garden instead of totally eradicating them. He then educated on how to deal with pesky problems with ants and aphids. We walked away from that area feeling like we were more educated than when we came in and how we would deal with it moving forward using natural ingredients first. This being our first time here we decided to take a look around at the plants and trees and begin to have questions about the pomegranate trees in particular, as they were not in the area as the sign placed. Going to the front we had been standing there for a little bit while Andrew finished with a customer. Coming from the back, Gina approaches the cash register along side a client who was shopping as well who just happened to be finished shopping. She looks at my husband and I and says whichever one gets to you first but will be with you in just a moment and moves the lady in front of us. The lady that she decided to check out in front of us was a little older, so I excused it even though it did feel as if we were rudely overlooked. If Gina appropriately had acknowledge us being there first I wouldn't have said... "we have questions about an item in the back so if you could take care of her first that would be OK with us" but we weren't given the option but I let that go. So as soon as Andrew finishes up with his customer, we begin to discuss our inquiries about the pomegranate trees in the back and stated that we were having trouble locating them because the sign is possibly in the wrong place or maybe they were just out. So we asked, could he take us to the location so we could look together as there are so many trees and shrubs. Now, Gina is finished with her customer and is wandering around the cashier desk and he asked her could she assist us because he could not leave the cash register. She then taps her wrist looking at him and us and says I have to clock out..... what happened to her statement "which ever one of us finishes with you first will be with you right away... so he says can you stay here and watch the desk while I go take the customers to look for the item and she says sure..... Keep in mind... We arrived an hour and 15 minutes before closing so we have been here and still have half an hour until closing time. My husband and I felt very uncomfortable about the customer service as it felt like Gina was really cold and rude. She didn't appear to want to assist us anyway as her face and body language spoke a thousand words without apology. I really hope this was a fluke day for her as I would hate to think that she treats anyone this way representing Armstrong Garden. Andrew on the other hand is such a sweet guy, I told him we wouldn't take much of his time. He then said that the store made a mistake and that he would move the sign because they indeed were out of the taller pomegranate trees and was sorry and would move it to avoid confusion. He then showed us a section that had smaller pomegranate trees called "Wonderful" and a "Azadi" Persian Pomegranate tree that hadn't matured which was fine. We ended up buying both along with a grape vine. If it hadn't been for Andrew, I wouldn't have purchased from here just because the interaction and feeling we got from Gina was really rude.

When we bought our new home, the exterior was essentially a sea of wood chips and palm trees, so we knew we'd have to call upon David once again. David worked wonders with the front and back yards of our new home, creating a "desert resort" vibe using drought-tolerant plants and succulents, gorgeous flagstone paths and boulders, artificial turf, and sophisticated path lighting and up lighting. We appreciated David's artistic eye as well as his comprehensive knowledge of plants, and his collaborative approach ensures an end result that is both practical and beautiful. David provides a valuable service, ensuring not only that your home has beautiful curb appeal, but also that your landscaping dollars are well spent!
