Natural Aspect Gardenscape just completed our makeover for the front yard. All the bermuda grass was removed, and replaced with California native drought-tolerant plants and a drip irrigation system to conserve water. We specifically asked for plants that support bees, hummingbirds, and other pollinators. Weed-blocking mulch was used to replace the grass. The plants were installed with chicken wire to discourage gophers. A slab walkway was installed on a base of decomposed granite. They also installed a new vinyl gate to replace the old wooden gate. They did a fantastic job at a very reasonable price! The owner, Travis Smith, has a great eye for design. We are so very pleased with our new front yard and we would highly recommend them to anyone. (two years later) We were having some trouble with the drip irrigation, plants were starting to die off. Travis was working on our neighbor's new backyard landscape, and he noticed our problem. He came over and asked if he could help. He found the problem was some of the wiring had been disturbed by someone I had hired to maintain the front yard. Several of the irrigation lines had also been damaged. He took the time to repair everything, check that the system was working properly, and even replaced one of the plants. I contacted Natural Aspect and spoke to Travis about some landscape finishing we needed help with in our front and back yard. We contacted several companies and got back astronomically high quotes. We previously had another company install pavers and turf in our backyard but a year later needed to have a fence replaced and landscaping installed. The original company we worked with was unable to stick to our timeline so we chose Natural Aspect to do the additional work. Travis and team worked fast and efficiently to demo the old fence, install the new fence, new plants, new drip irrigation and a small bench area with pergola. We had four companies come out to bid a landscaping project in our back yard that included replacing rock and shrubs with artificial lawn, replace and install steps on a steep slope, tear out a garden bed and replace, install a dog run with steps and reinstall an irrigation project. It was what I considered a fairly large project that required a company that knew how to execute many different things. Travis and his company not only did this, at a great value, but they went FAR and above what we asked them to do. They were able to turn a lot of our loose boulders and turn into coves for plants, recommended some natural plants and bark where we hadn't considered it, made a number of recommendations we hadn't thought of that GREATLY improved the look of our back yard. Impressively, everything looked better than anything I had ever expected, the craftsmanship was impeccable, the crew was very nice, and they did it in two days less than I thought it would take. I couldn't believe they were also able to figure out an optimal irrigation system for various sections of our yard, and our plants look so good back there (they are eye catching and natural to the area). We had Natural Aspect completely redesign our front yard by removing all the plants, grass and concrete walkways giving us a blank canvas to "start over" with. They installed two new walkways using pavers then laid out and installed artificial turf bordered by pavers and planted succulents and flowering plants with a drip irrigation system. We originally had Travis come out to completely re-landscape our front yard. He removed the entire lawn, installed new crushed granite, selected and placed some very beautiful plants, and installed an automatic drip system. We had Travis come back a few months later to remove an old chain link fence in our backyard that had become completely overgrown with english ivy. No neighbor wanted to deal with maintaining it. We bought an old Craftsman house that had just rocks out front. I liked the simple, drought tolerant designs that Natural Aspect had in their portfolio so I met with Travis and simply told him what kind of plants I liked (colorful, hearty, Australian, grassy). I also liked his pictures of the river-like pavers that he did for other homes. We discussed and he took notes and said he already had a lot of ideas. I received a reasonably priced quote, but I was surprised that there were no sketches so I was not really sure what to expect. Travis said they would place the design with the plants, and if I didn't like any of the plants, he could swap them out. So they got to work and after the 2nd day, my husband came home after he saw Travis and Garrett work, and told me, "oh, you're really going to like it!" He had not even seen any of the pictures before. When I went to see the landscaping a day later, I was so amazed at the transformation! Travis introduced each plant and succulent to me, describing how big it would get, and how I could expect key plants to have perennial flowers. You can tell that he really knows and likes plants! He remembered my comment above loving Australian plants and incorporated 3 types of lovely Aussie plants among the succulents and grasses. With the existing rocks, they sorted out various sizes to create a "river" and to create the texture and depth that was missing before. They put in drip irrigation coupled to a weather-sensitive controller. They went above and beyond the scope of work to move rocks over to cover a bare dirt patch and to remove some construction material that we had in the backyard. This was the second project using Natural Aspect. We first reached out to Travis to install a paver patio with plants and irrigation in our townhome. The project came out on time and on budget, the results were beautiful. When we moved to our current home, we decided to transform our backyard from from grass and old concrete to a low maintenance space that would accommodate our kids and dog. We had our front and back yards completely redone with the main objective to eliminate water-intensive grass without looking like a desert. We also added a lovely, winding, flagstone walkway, flagstone stairs, a rustic cement bench, and a retaining wall. The pathways, trees, and featured plants are now accented by lighting that adds safety and beauty. All of our new plants, as well as the plants on our patio and balcony, are now watered by an automatic drip, so our maintenance time as well as our water bill should be markedly reduced. I can't say enough good things about our experience with Bob Guthrie and Natural Aspect! Bob is extremely knowledgeable about plants and has many good ideas about yard design. He is very low-pressure and honest; in fact, several times he advised us against adding a project that would have added significantly to his very fair price quote.
