It goes as follows: Someone ImPoRtAnT buys a small business in a small town. Someone wants sales and profits. Someone obliterates the very thing that made the business remotely profitable, thereby destroying cultural profitability, and leaning oh-so-heavily on tourism. And, thus, a small business (that still had profitable potential without losing its small business, local status) fires or loses its longtime employees - Those with relationships in the community. Homes. Families. Speciality knowledge in an industry. And, everyone who used to go to "the hub" as an actual hub of likeminded community members... stop going. All their friends are gone. All the beer prices went up. New people are kind of irksome and a little shifty. But, wait. It gets better. Then, they silence those community members (me) who call them out on it on social media. Don't worry, I got a personal phone call from an 843 number. Someone telling me they were blocking my comments. Thanks. So, you. Human. If you're thinking of going to The Hub because you heard it was the place to go? It is not. It was. It is no longer. It died a corporate death. The Hub: You think you can silence community members? Is my female voice too shrill? Am I making too much noise? Good. Block me. Block all of us. Keep us quiet so you can pay influencers on social media to show how cool it is there. Guided Rides - Our guide Josh managed to make it all work perfect; for a mom who is truly a mountain biking beginner, the dad who seems to be able to handle anything and the son who really enjoys a challenge. My point is, they happily accommodate all skills levels. Rental Bike options - it's only first class here with beautifully equipped new Yeti bikes, you will leave wanting one of these babies for sure! Plenty of choices for all rider types/sizes/etc... Location - The Bike Farm is easy to find just outside Asheville proper then a short trip to unbelievable trail options. Your guide will discuss what you want to do, then plan the route accordingly. We originally chose one day then added a second because we just couldn't get enough. If we could have stayed longer, we definitely would have. We took this trip to have an escape and enjoy the outdoors and couldn't be happier that we chose The Bike Farm. When we return to NC, without a doubt we will book again.

My friends and I recently traveled to Rosman to float down the French Broad River. We have floated…read morewith Headwaters Outfitters in the past and knew we were going to have a great experience. The staff is welcoming as soon as you enter the store. They helped us pick the right dry packs for our phones and we were able to purchase other gifts as well. The safety instructions and map were very helpful and the float took us a little more than 90 minutes. A warm welcome greeted us as we reached the end of our float. We loaded the bus and headed back to the starting point. I love this float because we were the only ones on the river. There was no packing of people onto the bus and unloading with a slew of others with their tubes. We had the river to ourselves and we loved it. Along the way, we were welcomed by a gentleman sitting on a porch singing a song about people floating on the river. It was memorable. As was the trip. Great time, Headwaters! We will see you again!
