I signed up when I moved in May because my pervious internet provider did not service the area I moved to and I needed internet to work from home and as well as my cable service. On June 12th I woke up to my internet not working and called tech support to have the issue resolve. I was told the issue would be resolved by Friday. I waited until 5 pm friday still no service I called back and was told it would be resolved that day and not to worry. Earthlink is absolutely horrible. Services always lagging and we are only a family of three. Customer services is rude and unhelpful. EarthLink over charges and charges a "reactivation" fee even when the services have not been suspended. Called customer service and was told that this was a fee for missing my 10 day grace period window even though on the account it says reactivation fee and they only charge it when it gets disconnected and then however, they charge me $25 reactivation fee even though my Wi-Fi did not get disconnected because I paid it on time. We didnt use internet for a month because we were paying for the highest package 300mbps for $179 and having to add data 2 weeks in every month- it was draining our budget. We eneded up spending $200-$300 per month all said and done because you run out only watching one or 2 movies a night and thats without us connecting to phones or any other devices. When I spoke with a customer service agent to cancel she said I had to pay for a months worth of internet I never recived and still are trying to make me pay for service I never got. I was told the data I purchased would be sufficient for my needs which were discussed in detail. 24 hours after I got this installed, 1/2 my data is used up: 48 hours after my data is gone and the internet is shut off! I've been an Earthlink webmail customer for more than 30 years. In the last two weeks I've been locked out of my account 3 times while I travel in Europe. The first time I was on hold 3 different times each more than an hour before getting someone who could reset my password. She assured me that I should get locked out again. Four days later the same thing happened. I again spent several hours on hold waiting to speak to an agent before getting my account back. Two days later I was again locked out. I spent 2 1/2 hours on the phone waiting for an agent to answer before finally giving up. I then tried a different number and reached someone fairly quickly but he had to transfer me to technical support where I've now been on hold 1 1/2 hours with no answer. I tried the chat function and they weren't able to help me. There is no reason for anyone to use Earthlink. LIES AND DECEIT They are dishonest about the service you will receive and how that service works. They told me I could receive fiber, promised they had made sure it was available at my address and that - even at 25mbps it would do so much more than my current standard internet with another provider. I wasn't entirely sure this was true but I was willing to test it with fiber to see if there really was a difference and eventually upgrade my speed if I needed to. When ATT showed up that morning to connect the service, as Earthlink does not do so (thank goodness for small miracles!), the tech informed me that there was no fiber in my area, there had never been fiber in my area, and that they had scheduled me for 25mbps of standard internet - something they were going to charge me nearly as much as I pay for the 400mbps from a different provider! He also confirmed my suspicion that the 25 on fiber was never going to keep up with 400 standard and that what the sales rep had told me was a complete and utter lie. They will lie to you and say anything to make a sale, apparently! Now I have to sit through their ridiculously long hold lines to try and get my installation fee back. read more

I initially wanted to sign up with Frontier but since it wasn't serviced in my area, Earthlink stated they would provide me the same service speed of 100mpbs for 39.99. only to find out later that it was only 45mbps and they were charging me $78. I called as soon as I was aware since they did not let me know about the charge right after installation only to have consistent intermittent issues with my internet, which is an issue because I work from home. After consistent back and forth about my rate and speed they provided me a credit. Still having issues with the service and went ahead and cancelled not even two weeks of service. Multiple representatives told me that I would receive a refund of 64.49 within three days only to find out today now, I'm not getting a refund. This must be the most incompetent company I have every dealt with. I signed up easily enough, but I had to call them back for an installation date. The next day I got an email with an installation date that wouldn't work. So I called to change it, somehow they misunderstood that, and cancelled my entire account. So I started over. After finally moving into my new apartment, they are supposed to be there at 9 AM. At Noon I call and they say they'll be a couple hours late. At the end of the day I call again and they say it'll be 3 to 4 days. Ridiculous. I asked the person on the phone if I could speak to his supervisor. He refused but said he could have him call me in the next hour. Hours go by. The guy (not his supervisor) finally calls me back and says the installation has been scheduled and they cant do anymore. I told him I'd like to cancel my installation so I can go with another company. He said that I should THINK ABOUT IT. He hangs up and didn't cancel my installation. 5 phone calls later I've finally canceled my account. While I didn't get my money back I'm happy to be rid of this company.
