I returned with my husband for dine-in yesterday for my birthday. Way better than our last experience with takeout. The food tasted better. The noodles we ordered were hot and the sushi was better prepared. The salmon and unagi sushi were particularly very good, the scallop rolls were so-so. They didn't very much like scallops. Definitely, eating here is the way to go. Our server was very friendly. When you check in on Yelp, you get an offer for a 5% discount on your bill. We were celebrating a loved one's birthday and went to saw the tepanyacki showcase. Hope you understand it cause I am pretty sure I misspelled the word, also known as just tepan. The show and the service of the Chef was phenomenal; we had a great time. The restaurant is spacious and well decorated appropriately for the food being served. Portions are acceptable and as expected. Overall quality is a four cause some items were simply exquisite, while others were a disappointment based on the quality expected based on the price being charged. For example, my wife's and my daughter's meat were tender well seasoned, while my fish tuna was raw and even cold at the center. The specialty rice (not the plain white) was below our expectations, simply typical Chinese rice without the extras at which we are used to have. Teppanyaki dinning has been one of my favorite dinners since 1985 when I was invited to one in Kansas City. Since then I've visiting them every time I can. In Puerto Rico, we don't have many Teppanyaki rests after Hurricane María. So East Asia Bistro is the only one available for us, but I loved it as we were to have dozens of options. My wife and I had a great time, good wine and the cook, Mr. Jason prepared our food as we wanted it! They only reason I'm giving them only 4 starts is because Mr. Jason got a little too distracted and throw must of my salmon sauce over my shirt. I would appreciate an apology, but it never came. It was better the day after when I seasoned it with curry powder, garlic, and crushed red peppers. 3.5/5 - Mongolian Beef: very tasty! The meat was tender and flavorful. Beef, onions, red and green bell peppers. 4/5 Service: We were greeted and seated immediately. I came with a party of 25 and half the people got their food first. The other half received theirs 15-20 minutes later. And unlucky me received mine's another 10 minutes later. By the time I got my food my friends were almost done with theirs. Luckily I got appetizers or else I would have been furious. My hungry face isn't that pretty! lol. It was still frustrating, though. I had to ask about my food to make sure it wasn't forgotten to be put in. Then my friend asked again because it still hadn't come after 15 minutes of me asking. 2/5 Final thoughts: The food was mediocre and the service was not consistent. I'm so sad of making this review because this was my favorite restaurant for many years;however, I hadn't gone there for over four years so I didn't know what I was going to find there, I did have a huge craving for it so I had very high hopes. First of all we ordered many appetizers, starting with the miso soup it was horrible and sour (which a miso is not supposed to be), the wonton soup was old and not very good at all, the hot and sour was actually good according to my sister, the dumplings were cold not raw cold (as if they were cooked and just left outside, the edamame were good (but how can you make an edamame wrong), the fried chips were really good and that we really enjoy;also, all the sources tasted like water, as if they only added food coloring to it. The main courses were ok, the filet mignon was good; however, pretty tasteless; the scallops were good, the rice was actually very bad (I had really good memories about the rice and was actually looking forward to it) the meat in the rice was old and the rice as a whole was VERY VERY tasteless, the sushi was good, the pork sweet and sour was eatable, and the Mongolian beef was ok. The name "Asian Bistro" comes with the promise of a an oriental restaurant with a personality of its own. The sad reality is that this hodgepodge of Chinese, Japanese, and American Teppanyaki can't make up its mind what it is supposed to be and does not get any of the styles right. Asian Fusion it is not. A menu of over 160 items is ridiculously ambitious and ends up equally lacking in quality and presentation. Your first challenge will be avoiding the tables that do not wobble and the second will be finding a pleasant location in the over-sized and understaffed faux oriental main dining room. Service will be courteous but not particularly fast or diligent. You will find no seasonings at the table so you will have to settle for the bland and overcooked dishes and white rice. My Szechuan Phoenix ($18.00 which they spell Scechuan Phonex) had everything julienne shredded including the beef. It was served spicy hot because I asked - totally ignoring the fact that this is meant to be a hot dish when served anywhere else. The Lotus Delight ($20.00) ordered by my wife (also supposed to be hot) was, in her opinion, inedible and affected her stomach for the rest of the day. We gave our waitress some feedback about or disappointment, but were never approached by the owner who was too busy to listen to clients. On the positive side they offer free WiFi but we were told that is was not working. The fact that this was not revealed until we had ordered automatically results in the loss of an additional star in my book. We left very disappointed with no intent to return. This is mass production at its worse and I would not expect their other locale called "Sushi" at 74 Condado ave. in San Juan to fare much better. read more

Came here because I saw the Yelp ad and it triggered a massive itch for tepanyaki. TLDR: good enough to scratch a tepanyaki itch but probably not worth a 20 minute drive for someone who has regular access to Asian food at home. The food and service were both decidedly okay but not great. We had to wait about 20 minutes before the tepan show started. The show itself was a lot less polished than is currently the standard at Benihana's on the east coast but it was amusing enough. Food wasn't awful. Skirt and filets were cooked very well and everyone at the table liked the steaks. The consommé was pretty good too although not as clear as I'd expect at a French restaurant. Fried rice was a little too dry with too little egg and too little chicken. Scallops were burned on one side just a little and too salty. Shrimps were just slightly overcooked. Salmon was very nice but just a hair too well done for me. At the end, I had a good enough experience to scratch the tepanyaki itch but not good enough for me to uber 20 minutes here again but might eat here if I pass the area for some reason. If you're looking for a place to eat Japanese, just keep your expectations in check and I think you will enjoy your meal here. read more

The place is more for locals as most tourist will not know where Guaynabo is. It's a fun place, whenever I drop by all I see are smiling happy faces. It's in the shopping area of Guaynabo and the restaurant has ample parking. Throw a coin by the Buddha and make a wish as you enter... People enjoy their experience here, whether it's sitting in front of the teppanyaki table for the show to come. Now if you've never had teppanyaki before. You got to try it out. The kids will love it, your date will love it. it's quite interactive and the chefs there are really good. I say that because I'm use to seeing asian teppan chefs but seems like there's a number of really good PR teppan chefs as well. I would go with the filet. Excellent and cooked just right. Have your guest order the chicken or shrimp and share. It's a pretty filling meal but go ahead and order a few rolls to start. The rest of the restaurant is catered to large parties. i mean enormous parties if you need the space. There's a back room and I'm sure they can do a special menu for you. The tables are primarily set to serve asian fusion which is basically different chinese, japanese, and thai like dishes. All done very well and lots of similarities to something you would see at a PF Changs. Now this is not a chinatown like experience, nor is it suppose to be. Go there for bday parties and dates and family gatherings. The sushi bar is actually very good and they do nice specialty rolls. I will try to get more descriptive on an update but it's been a month or so since I've been there.... I'm thinking you can get a great meal with apps entrees to share, maybe some fried rice and a drink for about $30 or so. Teppanyaki may cost you a bit more.... My boyfriend and I ordered appetizers, the hot rolls of tuna and crabstick and they were mmmmmmmmmmmm..........delish considering I had never tasted them. And then we ordered the sushi pizza of shrimp and crabstick, a little bit spicy but awesome! We then decided to order some fried rice with chicken and the pepper steak and OMG, excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For drinks I ordered some wine and my boyfriend hot Sake..........mmmmmmmmmm.........very good! For me, once again, this restaurant is an excellent choice to just have a great meal or enjoy a great evening with some hot rolls and/or sushi with some great company, of course. For me this place, as always, it's a good as it gets and WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY TO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Short summary: Food was good, although nothing amazing. Service wasn't consistent. Some waiters were really good, others not so. When we got there we were seated very quickly. However, it seemed as if the teppans were understaffed because it took almost 75 minutes for the cook to arrive and start preparing our food. Looking at other tables it seemed as if the level of mastery of the cooks was inconsistent. Some were pros while others were not as artful. The food was tasty and well seasoned. We had the chicken consommé, garden salad, fried rice, filet mignon, skirt steak and teriyaki pork. The salad was standard but I found a piece of plastic in mine. Knocked off a star for that. I've gone here for lunch a couple of times, and I think the Chinese food here is the most authentic that I can find in Puerto Rico (although, I am on a continuous search). I have had the Hong Kong Pan fried noodles, wonton soup, and half of a roast duck...yes they have roast duck! The noodles and the duck were like comfort home foods for me. The beef and the chicken in the noodles tasted kind of off to me but the sauce was exactly how I imagined it to be. Thanks to East Bistro, I no longer have to wait until I visit home to satisfy my Chinese food cravings. I still have to try the rest of the menu to ensure that this is the real deal. The only down side about this restaurant is the high prices, but I guess most Chinese restaurants in PR are pretty expensive. I was a little sadden to pay $20 for my duck because I knew that I could get half a duck for like 8 bucks in NYC. But at the end of the day, I was just happy to get the chance to eat duck. read more

This one plain. The presentation was good though. So, when i ate it, i have to add more salt to make it tastier. The mongolian beef was good but not great. A little bit tastier than shezhuan phoenix that we ordered. The beef was tender and the sauce add the richness of the beef. The fried rice was basic fried rice. Nothing bad or good. Really, just a very normal basic fried rice. A little bit overprice for what we got, but i bet asian food is kind of expensive in puerto rico since we could not find a lot of asian restaurants here. Very very disappointed! On Monday, Nov 1st, I had a 3:00 pm reservation for a teppanyaki "experience" for me and my daughter. We were there on time, (5 minutes earlier). Ordered a sushi (BTW it was delicious) and a couple of drinks. They served the soup and the salad but after that we waited 1 hour and 20 minutes and nobody came to acknowledge us or explain the reason of the delay. When we decided to leave, the manager, named Hector, was very polite, he apologized and asked us to give another opportunity which I will. I left because by that time my experience was shattered. My recommendation is to first of all, if they don't have enough personnel, DON'T book a reservation. Also acknowledge customers and let them know what is going on or offered other options. read more

The Chicken is $20 plus the change from white rice to fried rice is $3 (plus the addition to the tax and tip this causes, you are paying $4 for a small bowl of fried rice per person). It's not included like in other Tepanyaki grills. Found this out the hard way, when the bill came and I got a nasty surprise. I ended up paying $108 for 3 people! And we didn't even have alcohol.
