My son has had feeding/sensory issues ever since he we started solids at around 6 months. He was almost 2 1/2 years old and couldn't chew or swallow properly so it was very frustrating during every mealtime. He would literally pocket anything we give him unless it was some sort of puree or yogurt, and even then he would gag and sometimes throw up. This limited the variety of foods that we could offer him. Needless to say, his food intake was not ideal since we would probably only be able to have him finish 1 chicken nugget in an hour feeding session. We were at our wits end and the morale in our household was at an all time low. I found Ascend Rehab through yelp and took a chance on feeding therapy because we were at our wits end. Everyone on site was very nice and courteous and we felt at home every time we were there. My review is specifically for Ileanexcis whom we were truly blessed to have her as my son's feeding therapist. I cannot express the gratitude I have for Miss Ilea and the dedication she put into the feeding therapy sessions for my son. She is very passionate about helping the kiddos and you can see it. You are lucky if you're able to work with Ilea, because she cares so much! In the short time that my son was going to therapy (3 months), he has improved dramatically. He has made great strides with eating and now he actually can finish a full meal within an appropriate amount of time and enjoy all sorts of foods with different textures! This review is LONG overdue. My daughter attended their Little Miracles program and also received speech(Ilea & Sophia) and occupational therapy(Robin) through Ascend. Each and every single one of the staff members we came across were amazing. The staff is passionate about what they do and treat the kids so well. They all nurtured and taught my daughter so much, even through virtual learning during the early stages of COVID! She was always happy to go to school and therapy to play/learn. It's been almost a year now since she stopped going to Ascend; she still talks about Ms Ilea and Julienne randomly when we talk about teachers. She is all caught up and thriving now. My son has been receiving speech services for over a year now here at Ascend and it has been great! My son started off with another therapist but we switched to Ms. Sheryl-Rose (my son just calls her Ms. Sheryl) 6 months into his sessions. She has been fantastic with my son and let's me know how well he's doing and little things where he needs a little help and improvement. She also helps my son focus on social skills as well. My son loves coming to sessions because of her and he's been talking a lot more from when he first started. Also, the whole staff is super friendly and accommodating as far as scheduling. We were referred through the RCEB. I really wasn't sure what to expect but we had such an amazing experience with Mary Lou!!! My son at 2 years old had less than 50 words. We started working with Mary Lou and my son was immediately really comfortable with her. He looked forward to her coming each week! For a pandemic baby, this is huge!! He was showing progress each week. He had new words pretty quickly and his sounds were getting clearer and clearer. He was getting much more confident as well. She always had the best toys and activities for him that were very engaging. She was so kind and encouraging with him as well. She also encouraged me and gave me tips for how to work with him throughout the day. He is 3 now so we were referred to the school district for continued support. At his evaluation he had 375 words! He was in the average range in all areas of speech. I am so happy with the experience we had with Mary Lou and would recommend her to anyone who has littles who are struggling! read more

My daughter has been receiving services from Ascend for over a year now, her teacher is Ms.Marylou C, she is the BEST! My daughter looks forward to seeing her teacher each week. She is very patient with my daughter and I love how she sings to her when she is about to have a melt down to calm her down. She is very interactive with her, she plays lots of games with her, she dances and sings songs with her. She gives me such great ideas to incorporate into daily things to teach my daughter new things. If you happen to need services from Ascend, I would highly recommend asking for Marylou C to be your child's teacher. My daughter Mia has gone to Ascend for almost 2 years. Her speech therapist Ileanexcis has been just incredible. We could not have been happier with her care for Mia. She is patient and caring, and Mia has made such strides with her. When we first started speech therapy, my daughter would make mostly sounds with almost no words, she also has a behavior disorder so she had a hard time following directions and paying attention. Almost 2 years later, Mia speaks in full sentences, is much better at following directions and is constantly saying new words! We are thrilled. It is very rare that you find someone that works with your child that you can tell really cares for your child, and I can 100% say that Ilea cares. My son has speech delay that contributes to other behavioral issues. After doing some assessments with the doctors, he was referred to Acsend rehab services for speech therapy. Miss Lauren is our speech therapist. She's very sweet, very professional, and very patient with my son. She told us about their Little Miracles preschool program and we signed him up right away. The preschool is great! They have 1 teacher to 2 students ratio. They also have occupational therapists and speech therapists spending time with the kids every day. My son has improved so much going to speech therapy and their preschool. The teachers are great there. Now my son attends another preschool full time and he is adapting to the school very well. I really think Little Miracles prepared him well. I'm so glad that we have found Ascend. read more

My son was assigned a developmental therapist from Ascend through Regional Center of the East Bay. Emma, our developmental therapist, is absolutely wonderful. In addition to being kind and patient when working with my son, I really appreciate that Emma listens to my concerns as a parent. I love that she always takes the time to answer my questions and when she does not know the answer to a question, she is honest enough to admit so and always comes back to me the following week with an answer. She has given our family many helpful suggestions that have truly helped my son become the best version of himself. Also, I really appreciate that Ascend has gone out of their way to make sure my son gets the help he needs. When Emma and her supervisor Swati (an OT at Ascend) felt that my son would greatly benefit from seeing an OT, Swati herself came out to our house for an evaluation and to offer tips and guidance. I started coming to this center to see Miss Cecelia 4 month ago with my 13 years old son and I am so exited to report the change I see in my teenager. He is more focused on his studies, going to the gym and always eager to come for an appointment with Cecelia. My son has started going here and its been about 4 weeks now and in just those 4 weeks i see a HUGE improvement. I know sometimes parents can feel a mix of emotions and be hesitant when trying therapies but this place is very friendly. My son has autism and has a habit of repeating everything you say, called "echoing" and he has actually reduced the echoing by at LEAST 70%. I am not exaggerating in the least. Ms. Cheryl is so kind and has the sweetest, calmest voice. While i am at work my grandma takes my son to his appointments and always calls me afterward to give me the update. My son loves coming here and even asks to go see Ms. Cheryl on days he isn't scheduled to go, Which shows me he enjoys going. A Big sigh of relief. Always good updates and Ms cheryl always gives positive feedback, Which is very encouraging for us. My son has had a change in his asking. Before he used to say "Want to go to sleep" but forgetting to say "I". or he would flip it around and saying "you're crying" but he meant to say "I'm crying" now he's a lot better at correcting those errors he catches himself now and will say it until it is correct. The receptionist is also very attentive and kind. You may be nervous your first time coming in but you'll feel totally at ease knowing your child is going to get quality service. I met with Swati today hoping to get a good grip on getting Speech Therapy for my daughter. She is extraordinary! She truly wanted to get my daughter's progress and after the conversation, she recommended that my girl needed OT more that Speech Therapy. She explained to me the benefits of focusing on OT first (which totally makes sense). She is just not passionate about her profession but you can sense that she truly cares about her clients. Rachana was our specialist & she helped pull our family through the eye of the storm! We are truly grateful that she came to us in our time of need! No one could have made us more happier. Our son has ASD, he's non verbal, has PICA & SPD with extreme self harm traits. Rachana taught us strategies on redirection, cue words, play therapy & substitution strategies giving safer alternative methods and means for our son to use & look into. He use to bang his head on the wall. We tried pillows and crash pads, we tried blocking the wall & we tried baby gates but nothing would stop him. Rachana taught us to redirect him towards us so he would learn to seek human comfort & support instead of the wall & it worked! Everytime our son gets upset, he now comes running to us and not the wall. She is a miracle worker! There are so many things she has done for our family & we will never forget her. My daughter was recommended to Ascend through the Regional Center, and I couldn't be any happier. We have Rachana coming to see our daughter, and our daughter loves her so much! This is my first time ever writing a review because I generally try to give a business the benefit of the doubt if something goes wrong. This review is more about customer service and not the treatment. I had planned to pay privately for the service so I had called to ask questions last week so that I may way the benefits with the cost. I left multiple messages on the voice mail and I received no call back. The last straw was today when I called and the receptionist told me someone (clinic manager) would call me back to explain more about the evaluation. No return call was made to me and now it's the end of the day. All I wanted was an appointment. I was so very disappointed with the service. I was referred to Ascend through the Regional Center about a year ago. My son had both a Speech Therapist and Behavioral Specialist. I rated 2-stars because for the most part the weekly sessions did indeed assist in the advancement of my child's language development. What I had a problem with was the staff's lack of professionalism. Both ST's assigned were either consistently late to sessions or stopped showing up all together by the end of the program. Our son is a client of the Regional Center of the East Bay, and we were assigned a developmental specialist to work with him in specialized instruction. Our Developmental Specialist, "Ms. Sheila", is so friendly and personable. Our 2 year old son looks forward to her visits each week and always has so much fun during her hour with him. She's very knowledgeable and has personally LIVED the role of "a parent with a child with special needs", so we feel so blessed to have her as our therapist.
