Special thanks to Ms. Lupe, Ms. Amanda, Ms. Kate, Ms. Alisa, and all SOI family services who helped my son feel safe and happy. He loved them so much that he cried leaving the school at the end of the school year and he still misses and asks for them. Let me start off by saying that we have liked and appreciated the time my son has spent at school of imagination. He started in the step 1 program at 2 years old and competed the step 2 program. Once my son was 4, we were contemplating step 3 vs TK with the school we have chosen for his elementary years. Nearing the end of his step 2 year, we realized the school was no longer the best fit for us. Pros: -Inclusive environment for kids with autism or additional needs. My son also had very specific nutrition needs. They were very accommodating and this was a huge deal for us. -Low ratio of kids to teachers gives each child (special needs or typically developing) lots of individual attention. Your child won't be lost in a group of 25 + kids. -If all the stars align, your child may be able to get occupational therapy and speech therapy during the school day as well. So the fact that my son was able to have OT in the morning and then go straight to his classroom was so nice! OT Ms. Shruti is 5/5 stars, we love her. Some of the reasons we decided not to enroll in step 3: -The program runs year long, the number of days "off" are high. Holidays of course, but also a spring break, winter break, summer break and this year they added in a week long "pre summer break". I counted about 30 days off plus some random minimum days. I'm a working mom, and do not have flexibility with my job. So this was really hard for us. I would need to schedule days off work or try and find/pay a sitter. If you have a WFH job or have family help, this might not be a problem for you. In addition the school schedule can be changed at any time. This last year Spring break was changed an entire week. Thank goodness that we didn't have an actual trip or vacation booked! The plans we did have I was able to move. - Field trips sound like an amazing way for the kids to experience different activities and places outside of school. I have no issue with field trips. My issue is the way field trips are planned and implemented. During my son's step 2 year, they had 2 field trips. One to the pumpkin patch and one to the fairy Garden. Here's where it becomes a problem: field trips are 2 hours long, a parent must drive and attend with the child. The rest of the school day, including before and after care is canceled! There is NO refund to parents who pay for "early birds" and "late birds", nor for half of the school day that's not used. In order for me to take my son on the field trip, I have to lose an entire day of work pay, pay for the field trip, gas, etc to the trip and then find childcare for my son for the rest of the day if I wanted to work. If you chose not to bring your child on the field trip there is no option for them to attend school! Although Charlene the director provides ESDM intervention plans, this is a separate service and comes at a separate cost. We thought (given the information on the website and tour, etc, that the teachers were all trained in ESDM practices.)We quickly realized that was not the case. Some had behavioral strategies, but the training varied between teacher and therapists. (Side note: if you are not familiar with ESDM, I recommend you buy the book and start implementing the recommendations. You can also go to helpisinyourhands.org this is a free resource created by Sally Rogers, creator of the early start Denver model.) Cost. The expense became prohibitive for our family. It's about $25k/year for full time. This is from 8:45am-2:45pm (approximately, each class is staggered by 15min). Extra for before/after care. A $285 materials fee I found to be excessive. That's about $4k of money for "materials" per classroom. Parents are often asked to bring in extra stuff such (pumpkins for Halloween, Easter eggs filled with goodies, shirt for tie die are examples) as well as Amazon donations. Solicitation for donations/money and publicity with the city of Dublin- It's overkill. Almost every single event at the school is connected to raising money. It's very unclear where this money is going to. One example- an envelope came home with my son for their "share the love" event in February. The envelop stated that $25 could cover such and such services for a child in need. One of the services listed was music therapy. SOI doesn't even provide music therapy! There were also no opportunities for parents just to enjoy their child's classroom without the pressure of donating more money. If you are reading this and your child has autism, and you are stressed because of the cost, or the long commute, or you are #50 on the waitlist - it will be OK. There are other options. In hind site, we sacrificed a lot: driving 30-50min each way, spending a huge chunk of my income because we thought this school was the only way our son could thrive in school. Was it worth it? From our initial consultation to her current enrollment, the entire process has been seamless, organized, and professional. My daughter is doing well in their little sunshines program; afterwards, we plan on enrolling her in their preschool program. We lucked out living so close to SOI, having enrolled here without much research and receiving priority based on our proximity. It was later that I heard of their stellar reputation and waiting list. And it's no wonder -- the owner Charlene and staff are warm and welcoming, and the kids are well supported in their social/emotional development as well as their learning. I believe their advantage is that they also have occupational and speech therapy services, so the instructors are generally better trained in that respect. For example, last month I got a call that my 3-year-old had unfortunately kicked a boy. Instead of the standard "here's what happened and how we handled it," they wanted to understand more of his behavior at home and also created a plan to support him at school, such as through puppet role-playing during circle time and books specific to his behavior, which would help the other classmates stand up for themselves as well. Good thing it was a one time incident, but I know that the teachers helped him learn his lesson. I'm happy to be able to send my son there for another upcoming school year! read more

The School of Imagination is a model of how all schools, businesses and really any organization should be run. There are at least 100 reasons why this school is extraordinary but I will try to narrow it down to a few. Dream Team Staff: Everyone who works here has a positive, energetic and passionate work ethic. You can tell it is a close knit community and a team effort. The founder, Charlene Sigman is truly a pioneer in her field. You can tell that she is passionate about teaching and helping others. I was especially impressed by how hands on she is. She not only attends Parent-Teacher conferences but also gives hands on assistance in the classrooms. Innovative Teaching: My son's teachers, Ms. Katie, (and Ms. Kelly and Ms. Debbie) never focus on what he can't do. Instead, if she finds that he is not learning something or following direction, she will take a day or two to consult with Ms. Charlene and come up with another style, method or approach to suit his specific learning style. It's a beautiful thing when you see a teacher adapt to their individual student's needs. Openness: Each classroom has a large window. We were told on the first day of school that we are always welcome to stay and watch. This is helpful because not only do we know our kids are thriving, but also because as parents, we can observe, learn and continue to emulate what they are doing outside of school. Unlimited Activities: Ms. Katie has a theme each week. The teachers here are somehow able to come up with unique activity/learning station every day. The kids are never bored. My son attends School of Imagination via their speech and occupational therapy sessions. He has Ms. Kate for Occupational Therapy and she is phenomenal. She's absolutely the perfect person to work with little kids. Her positive attitude is infectious and my son loved her from day one. She's a godsend. Then there's Ms. Christina, his speech teacher, and the introduction to the wonderful place of School of Imagination. I sought speech services when my son was delayed in speech and she is AMAZING. When you get a gut feeling about a person and you just know they are great -- that is the feeling I had when I first met her. She's knowledgeable, thorough and tailors her sessions for my son. She's always willing to change tactics and gets excited about any little bit of progress just like I do. I seriously don't know how I would have made it without her encouraging words. She's THE BEST. I simply adore her. I love her. I really and truly do. There's no one else I would trust with my son but her. She's amazing. Then my son qualified for early intervention -- and here he got the introduction to the Little Sunshine's class. Hands down, the best class ever. My sons personality finally emerged through that class -- his receptive learning flourished and those teachers are absolutely amazing!! I love each and every one of his teachers and the highlights of my day are getting to speak with them about his progress. I don't know where we would be without this school. Everyone wants a piece of you".. your time I mean.. it literally feels this way when you are trying to juggle your younger kid's Occupational therapy, Speech therapy, daily ABA sessions, school support, parental training, swim lessons, doctor appointments PLUS your teen's school pick up's & extracurriculars.. while working full time! Everywhere I go, all I hear is" looks like you aren't keeping this a priority" ..so while I am running like a headless chicken working through the ultimatums & forever changing schedules .. My son started doing Occupational Therapy with Mr. Matt at around the end of March 2020. Before we started, my son had lost nearly all of the words (e.g. mama, dada) that he picked up at 6 months old. He could only communicate with us through how he cried. He stopped making eye contact with us and no longer responded to his name. In just the 4 short months with the virtual sessions with Mr. Matt, my son has been able to make sense of the world around him and communicate with us. He now knows over 25 words. He's able to kick and throw a ball around. He was very under responsive and had a lot of sensory withdrawals but now he really enjoys playing with toys like kinetic sand and Playdoh. He makes great eye contact with me, my wife, and our daughters. He's even able to share funny moments with us, something that most autistic children struggle with. The difference is night and day. Mr. Matt masterfully combines a cognitive concept or technique with a fun activity that's specifically suited to my son. He is extremely attentive and observant to how my son responds and adjusts the activity accordingly. This is in stark contrast to other therapists we've worked with who gave us the impression that they were using a textbook as a manual--step 1: try this, step 2: try this, etc. I can't begin to express my gratitude to Mr. Matt for helping our son. Keep in mind that this has all been through virtual sessions. Our son will begin going to the school later this month. read more

we received speech therapy here and they are out of network other than Kaiser. so it's on the expensive side. There was not even a small improvement after 6 months. we had sessions with Ms. Evelyn, she always arrive 5 min late to pick up the kid and drop the kid 5 min earlier. I didn't see any dedication from her. Even we can't enter the premises and need to be at the parking all the time. They are more of money minded. The Zoom link won't work and they say there is 20 min parent-staff session, we never had that. read more

Our son has been going here since he was 18 months old and it's worth every penny. You won't find a better preschool in the area for miles. In fact, I know of parents who drive hours to get their kids to and from this award-winning program. Both the school and the Happy Talkers program are outstanding. I write this review with such elation. My younger brother has been a special needs student all his life. With me being my brother's secondary teacher/mentor when we were growing up, I am so happy to see a school like SOI where inclusion and acceptance is apart of the culture, not just the curriculum. Although my son is not a special needs student, it's important to me that he learns to accept and understand that everyone deserves the right to equal treatment and education. SOI is the perfect place for our family for this issue alone. Our story started in late 2015/early 2016, after rounds and rounds of touring preschools and waitlists, I couldn't be more thrilled when SOI took my son in. We weren't one of those parents who waited until the last minute, we started placing our son on school waitlists when he was around 1 year of age. It was difficult since we had to move around for work but we finally were able to find a school like SOI for our son. From the moment you speak to the staff at SOI, you get absolute professionalism. They reply back to you when they say they will and I've never had any dropped messages or missed connections like I had experienced at other preschools. This alone is invaluable when you're finding a group of people to trust your children with! My son started school in Aug 2016 with Ms. Katie's Step 2 class. He was among the youngest as he didn't turn 3 years old until Sept 2016. When he first came to SOI, he was a shy, quiet and semi-bored child. His last preschool was more like a daycare and did not foster his learning and growing like SOI did. He got scared of going in on his first day but once distracted, he didn't even notice that we left! This kid barely had any independent skills as he's never been in daycare or in the care of anyone outside of myself and family members. SOI understood his challenges and has done everything in their power and MORE to help our son. Fast forward to the end of May 2017: This kid is not the same child we dropped off almost a year ago. He started SOI with only 3 days a week. Now he goes 5 days and he DEMANDS to be taken to school daily. His constant talking and singing has us immensely grateful for the opportunity to send him to SOI. He completely potty trained as of a few months ago, before he turned 3.5 years old. We believe that with the loving support of his teachers: Ms. Katie, Ms. Kellie, Ms. Vanessa (and the tons of volunteer staff members!) he was able to learn the confidence needed to make huge strides in his development. We have re-registered our son for the next school year for Step 3. There was zero hesitation from us whether we wanted to continue in their unique program! When our second son was born, we registered him on SOI's waitlist when he was 3 days old. My baby is now 9 months old and we're counting down the months when he can join the SOI crew too! read more

This school has been a God send. While my little one does not start until August, the enrollment process and the communication with the school has been outstanding so far. We did the Open House tour and were immediately sold on enrolling our son there. The teachers seem amazing and the fact that he can do his speech and occupational therapy there makes it even more perfect. We enrolled our daughter into School of Imagination in March 2013 in the Step 2 program. Last week, she graduated from their bridge Kindergarten program. Before we enrolled her, she couldn't count past thirteen and was having issues writing with her left hand. Socially, she couldn't share and couldn't sit still. Now at the age of 5, she is reading chapter books, writing sentences and is socially, academically and emotionally ready for first grade. We love the teachers, therapists, administration staff and of course, Charlene, Mitch and Hope (the dog). We will miss everything about this school, but know they have given our daughter the most wonderful gift - a foundation for learning. And that, is priceless. read more

My whole family loves the school of imagination and all of the amazing, kind hearted, and extremely talented staff! My son started attending virtually in the little sunshine's class when he was 18 months old and transitioned to in person about six months later. He absolutely loves all of his teachers, Ms Melissa, Ms Jonni, and the of other teachers. He gets to do a lot of activities that he normally wouldn't get to do at home such as playing with sensory bins, sliding down the slide in the playground, and sharing toys and playing with friends his age. The school is dedicated to being clean and Covid safe which puts my family at ease. We also love Ms Kate who is such an amazing OT! My son learned so many new skills thanks to her patience and novel ways of teaching. His vocabulary and confidence has improved so much thanks to the teachers especially Miss Melissa & Miss Charlene who joins the little sunshine's class every session to do a special speech and words lesson. My son sings all the songs in class whenever he is home and always asks to go to school day! Last but not least the amazing office of Ms Aye and Ms Charis - they are always so responsive and organized, especially with Covid protocols and managing all the students and their families (dropoff, pickup is always organized)!!! We cannot say thank you enough to the amazing staff at the school and we are so thankful to be able to attend. read more

This is a wonderful preschool for children developing at a normal pace as well as for children requiring other therapies. It is a school that helps ALL kids reach new potential. I can only echo the remarks in the reviews below. These teachers are so engaged and interested in the children. It is a warm, caring and comfortable atmosphere for the kids and parents alike. The small class sizes and student-teacher ratio is exactly what toddlers need to exceed, feel included and grow. I interviewed several preschools in San Ramon and Pleasanton in addition to SOI and this won hands-down. I can't comment on any of the occupational, speech or other therapies that they provide, but the regular "Step" classes are nothing short of exactly what this parent expected preschool to be. To me, this school really sets itself apart by the way the staff and teachers treat our kiddos. It's the little things we notice. They get on their level, give eye contact, listen and focus with care, and have creative responses and solutions for both wanted and undesirable behavior that show understanding and encourage good choices. The other day my 4 year old son noticed I was going the wrong way to the park and said "Hey Mom, you went the wrong way, but it's okay we all make mistakes and we can solve the problem, maybe we....". To know that the lessons we hope to teach at home are reinforced in the classroom is awesome. It's a place that really pursues emotional intelligence and imaginative fun. The integrative element of teaching children with varying needs makes this school truly special. And of course, I notice learning growth through their curriculum. I couldn't feel happier about my boys' teachers Miss Katie, last year, and this year the incredibly fun Miss Brook, Miss Kellie (Step 3) Miss Maricela, Miss Fabby (Step 2) and other wonderful assistant teachers. This school is amazing. My son has tried several pre-school which were highly rated. He had a lot of separation anxiety. This is the only school that addressed it with so much attention and CARE. By the second week he was so happy to be in school while at other schools he cried for weeks...the teachers always said..it's a phase he'll get out of it eventually...but he never did until he came to this place. He started out twice a week and now he attends 5 days a week. The teachers are amazing and LOVING. This is the school you want! read more

My 4 year old son had a really bad experience at his previous school. My husband and I have been lucky enough to transfer him to the School of Imagination. My son's fears of going to school and teachers only took 2 days to subside once he started attending this school. The teachers are actually like the teachers every parent dreams of having for their child. The staff is like family amongst themselves and you can see that they communicate really well with each other about every single child there; They are all on the same page:) What really matters is how my son responds to his new environment and what he says about school. He asked us the other morning if it was a school day. When he would ask us the same question when attending the other school, he would throw a fit and not want to go. But this time his answer was, "Oh good!" I can just see how much he loves his 4:1 ratio classroom. He gets the attention he needs and all the positive reinforcement to help him succeed. Every child I see there has a big smile on their face and so does the staff. "Imagine" that! Thank you School of Imagination for opening your doors to us and for all your hard work. I LOVE this school!! My children are in the middle of their first year here and they are so happy here. From the teachers to the therapists to the office staff, SOI has the best people in the business. My children started with the preschool program in September and now, since January, are now also enrolled in the school's Infant Development Program, speech therapy and occupational therapy programs! In just a couple short months, we have seen amazing changes in the boys' speech, coordination, and temperament. I owe it all to SOI and everyone there! I trust them implicitly with my children and couldn't ask for better people to be around my kids every day. I could not recommend this preschool more. If you're looking for a safe, fun, clean school for your kids to learn and thrive, this is the place! My morning drive to School of Imagination campus in Dublin takes me 25 mins in rush hour traffic. We live in a great community in southeast San Ramon that has 4 other preschools. (all within a 5 min drive away and a little less expensive). After visiting multiple preschools (including the ones that sound stiff upper lip royalty and advertise on TV), I chose to enroll my high energy students with SOI because of its uniqueness. The curricula emphasizes on soft skills in step one to get the student ready to handle some academic learning in the step two class and a lot more academics like handwriting without tears in step 3. Animal phonics is consistently emphasized through step 1 to step 3. I think that learning soft skills like integrity, resilience, understanding consequences, social communication skills with peers and hard work are essential to my child's long term success than just being proficient in math and reading. (For instance, math might have gotten Edward Snowden a 150k NSA job at age 22 but IMHO his lack of a rounded education and soft skills probably got him a life sentence in Siberia). The school's leadership is stellar and super passionate about my two little super heroes. They rely on research based teaching methods and constantly re-train their teachers (most of them have masters in child development). Every single staff member here seems to show sincere commitment and passion towards my kids learning experience. I have been encouraged to ask mundane questions and ask for help / tips on parenting. Everyone at SOI is empathetic and selfless with their time. I have got answers on nutrition, dealing with morning rush hour, disciplining techniques and of course tantrums (the real ones as well as the fake ones). I also sit in my kids class at least once a quarter. The parenting coffee chats on first Fridays helps a lot as well. Even though they are a non profit the kids get the best learning tools and materials. I just wish I could find time to help them in their fund raising efforts. A school of this caliber in Manhattan or San Francisco would have a 3 year waiting list and cost 5 times more. I feel lucky SOI is right here in East Bay. My 2 cents to prospective parents, please bring your A-game as a SOI parent. I have seen the disappointment in my kid's eyes when I choose my iPhone over reading a class book to them or playing with them. Please do get involved with your kids weekly lesson details and talk to them on what they learn. Get on the floor at their eye level and get hands on with dramatic play. I have found that my kids learn more from class mates that have involved parents. Everyone in the class room benefits from your involvement in your kid's learning experience. Please find a different match if you don't have the time to get involved with your kid's learning and match the staff's commitment. I hope in the future the admissions staff builds an incoming class of kids with super passionate parents. The school's staff will not agree with my strong opinion, but I have to put it out there. I think it is only fair that, as parents, we supplement the staff's hard work to give our kids a memorable early learning experience. More so as this unique school strives for an higher ideal as a non profit institution. After nearly 18 months, I can sincerely say that my kids are instilled with a love for learning and importantly this experience has made me a better parent, that is a lot to say about any preschool. read more

My oldest got kicked out of 2 preschools. School of Imagination luckily had a rare opening and I went to interview them. My oldest is ADHD and has sensory processing disorder which we didnt' know at the time. They excepted Mike with open arms and handled him effortlessly. When we got his diagnosis, they were able to set him up with occupational therapy at their Happy Talkers program. I also kept my son there for the transitional Kinder class because he was still too wiggly for public school. But now that he is 10 he is an exceptional student and has no problems at school. My youngest was later diagnosed with Autism at the same time his sister was ready for preschool so I just enrolled both of them at SOI. They have an infant development program there for kids on the spectrum and they worked great with him until he transferred into a public school special education program. He is now getting ready to be mainstreamed. Since my daughter was also old enough to attend preschool, I sent her there as well. Bekah is typically developing so the teacher would often use her as a peer role model. She is also academically on target and has compassion for those that struggle. Where do i begin to write a review for SOI?!!! We started at SOI in the summer of 2014 in Step 1- Ms. Becca's class. My daughter was 26 months. My daughter was meeting all expectations at her 24 month appointment, and by her 2.5 year appointment she was speaking and passing 3.5 year old expectations. The dr was impressed with her sentence structure, ability to interchange pronouns, use of adjectives etc. She knew her alphabet, counted backwards, and all colors. He was blown away by her progress. What makes this school so special is that they incorporate the importance of play into learning. That was the most important thing for us. We want our daughter to be 2, but still be stimulated enough. We have never used any of the therapy services, so I can't speak to that program. I feel so lucky to have found SOI. read more

My son started the infant development program here in November. He seems to like it a lot after a period of adjustment. My husband and I really like this pre-school because the staff seems to really enjoy what they are doing and seems to be very equipped in handling all types of kids. The ratio of staff to student is great. Since our son is special needs, we feel very comforted that he gets the support he needs while at the same time is exposed to more typical kids. This truly is as good as it gets.I can easily say that the best desicion i have ever taken my entire life was to enroll my son in SOI.Hands down the best place to send your li'l one in the entire bay area. Unfortunately since we moved from California my son could get only one year of SOI time...but honestly...if you were to see him before and after the one year he attended the program you would be amazed.He is such a confident,social and friendly little guy now. Every single staff member who works here is AMAZING.I have never seen such passion and dedication from such a huge group of people working at the same place-i honestly cannot point out any one staff memeber who seems to do a better job than the other.The positive energy this place exhudes is phenomenal. One thind i'd like to emphasize on is..these people do an amazing job on the kid while they're at school.Do not 'undo' the good work by letting your kids go beserk on Ipads,smartphones and Wii/TV.There are better things in this world - the kids these days are missing out on all of those because of these gadgets!Just my opinion! It has been 2 years since we left and we still have fond memories of this school. Run, don't walk to this school. It is amazing in every way. Charlene, the founder, embodies herself and to her staff everything you would ever want in a school. My only wish is that they had a program beyond K, but that's really hard to do in a private school setting. So maybe when I win the lottery, I'll give it all to SOI so she can expand.. (well, maybe I'll save a little ;)...In all seriousness, this is the best preschool in the Bay Area. read more

This school is great. The staff is wonderful. The only thing is the price is expensive and they dont even serve the children food any more but other then that this school is just GREAT!!!! read more

I call this the Disneyland of preschools. My son went here for a little over 2 years. The teachers are amazing and you can tell how passionate Charlene and her staff are about helping every child. I only wish we could have had my son gone here for all of elementary school! ;) read more

Our son just started at this school. We were on a waiting list and we were so excited when our son was accepted. He loves going to this school. He literally runs in this place with a huge smile. The sweet teacher gives him a sticker on his hand at the end of each class. He loves this. He keeps it on all day. We love seeing him blossom everyday at this amazing school.
