We were looking around for a live wedding painter, and what drew us in the most was a previous painting he had done for someone else's wedding that is so stunning, and we knew that he would create something magical for us as well based on that one alone. The initial phone calls and meetings we had with him went so smoothly, he answered all our questions and gave us so much advice and other helpful tips that would make our vision come to light more. We were also very 50/50 on whether our setting would be in the church or in our second location and he was very patient with us until we made that decision the day before the wedding. He never made us feel rushed at all during this whole process which was great as it's something so unique that you will have forever. As for the actual painting, both me and my husband cannot believe what he created. I think it is my favorite thing in the whole world right now. The reactions from all our family and friends at the wedding were unreal too. For the last 30 minutes of our reception, all remaining guests gathered around and you heard so many exclamations of shock and awe and every iPhone popped up in the air to capture what he had started. And it wasn't even close to how stunning the finished product is now. Every time we think about having this painting in our home for the rest of our lives, we get so excited. It is so beautiful and he captured our likeness so well. He even added and edited things that we asked to be changed. He is just amazing and both my husband and I cannot recommend him enough. A very talented and kind-hearted artist who was so fun to work with.

Consulting about what you really want and what you're looking for was very easy with Yurik. He works well with you and obviously has the years of experience to give you amazing suggestions. I want to also point out something very important in my book and that's communication. He is quick to respond to you and will be as flexible as he can, considering he has a lot of other work to do. The quality of his art is out this world and this picture will be something I shall cherish for the rest of my life.

We actually thought that given what/who we were looking for, that we might have to hire two separate people to perform different parts of our ceremony. It was important to us that our ceremony have traditional Jewish elements, be queer and feminist, connect us to earth-based sprituality, and be witchy. When we first met with Rebekah to see if she would be a fit, we couldn't believe that we found someone who we both connected with and who understood all the elements of what we were hoping to weave together. Rebekah was generous with her time, taking care to get to know us and learn about our love and our relationship, ways we have struggled, and the ways we have grown. She crafted a ceremony that truly reflected who are separately, as a couple, and as part of a community we hope to support and be supported by. As we were, our guests too were moved and touched by our ceremony and by Rebekah's ability to weave together our values, our families, Jewish tradition, and a connection to the natural world. Rebekah is also simply a wonderful, kind, reassuring, and warm person-- which made it all the more pleasant (especially for two shy people) to go through the process of creating a ceremony together and ultimately getting up together in front of a ton of people we love. She also ran a rehearsal the day before our wedding which was really helpful in making the day itself run smoothly. Her presence on the day of the wedding, even aside from officiating the ceremony, was calming and protective in the most perfect way. If you are looking for an officiant who will listen to your wishes and artfully help you create a ceremony that reflects who you are, I very highly recommend Rebekah.

At our initial meet-up, she spent time getting to know me and my partner on a personal and spiritual level. When we met up again, she presented us with a thoughtfully-chosen menu of ceremony ideas that tied Jewish traditions to our psychological needs as well as our earth-based spirituality. On the day of the ceremony, Rebekah took us aside for a mikvah - time away from the fray for spiritual cleansing. That moment of peace and reflection turned out to be the most meaningful part of our wedding experience. Rebekah also guided us and our families through our hand-crafted ceremony with aplomb. So many people told me that it was the most authentic and genuine wedding they had ever witnessed. And my mom says that afterward, all the Jewish mothers asked her for Rebekah's number!

I thoroughly enjoyed the flexible after-work hours where I could relax and concentrate on just a few set tasks that go into making a screen and prints. The small class size felt both intimate and collaborative. I also loved how the teacher provided great materials to experiment with and Kala had all the necessary equipment. I'd love to come back and take more silkscreen later in the year!

It's a rare opportunity for working folks who love art (but never get to do it) to be artistic and creative. We also hoped it would be an opportunity to meet people, relax, unwind, drink some wine, and hang out... but we discovered one fine weekday eve that it was lots of Draw but very little Drink. There are some serious art students in Berkeley! The art instructor was knowledgeable, talented and inspiring, and brought some great materials for us to use - handmade paper, high-quality ink, brushes. We did have to supply some of our own stuff, like scratch paper, pencils, erasers. She taught us new techniques and was very hands-on. A few completed projects even looked frame-worthy. Kala offers great programs if you want to do art in the evening. However, if you actually want to hang out with friends, catch up, and Drink with your Draw, you may want to go to a bar. Just sayin'...!
