Our large front window had a hole in it when a burglar threw a rock in Nov 2025. I called El Cerrito Glass for a replacement before we left town for Christmas, and they came through. In late January 2026 we noticed a 2-3' long crack in the new glass and called El Cerrito Glass. At that time they notified us that they were now Berkeley Glass. After checking, they said it was a defect in the glass and that they would warranty replace it. It has now been six months and we can't get them to come out and do the work. There is always some excuse. Finally made a personal visit when they acknowledged our phone calls. That was a month ago and still nothing. It's a big, expensive window, so I guess my only recourse is to just sue them and get my money back. What a way to do business. read more

Called again and the guy made me hang up and redo the measurements because I had them in centimeters instead of inches. He didn't understand decimals because the Educational system he grew up in failed himand had to have fractions. Then, after all that I didn't reduce one of the fractions to the lowest common denominator and he laughed at me. Look, I run a business myself that requires measurements. I have used El Cerrito Glass, the sister of Berkeley Glass, successfully for some years. It has mostly been discrete jobs--a window, a few screens, etc. This time I worked with Berkeley Glass, and it was not pleasant. They wanted to schedule the work--mostly screens on an old building--so I checked with the tenant and told Berkeley Glass that earlier was better. I was given a window of 9 to 10 a.m., with a high probability of it being 9 a.m. I asked for a call before the workers arrived, because as a landlady, I like to be there to meet with contractors. I was told they would do that, but they did not. Instead, the workers just descended on my tenant, and I had no idea they were there. The office didn't seem to know what was going on, and had excuses for why I had not been notified of the time the workers would actually show up. And the estimator, whom I had met before (after I waited an hour for him on an earlier date, with no notification that he was not going to show), called to tell me that, since I had paid a deposit, I did not have to be there. He completely disregarded that I wanted to be there, as I always do, to deal with the workers so my tenants don't have to fulfill that responsibility. Honestly, nobody from that office seemed to understand my chagrin. And that office seems somehow screwed up, as if nobody talks with each other, least of all their clients. I think the work they do is probably fine--I haven't seen what it looks like yet, since I didn't even know they were already here--but don't count on the office person and the estimator or other people to actually relay information to each other. TL;DR version I am really impressed by Berkeley Glass Center. While all remodels are seemingly endless experiments in what it is like to live and breathe Murphy's Law, every so often a happy miracle occurs. Berkeley Glass Center saved our bathroom remodel. Highly recommended. The Long Ass Story: Our little master bathroom was supposed to take 10 days to renovate, and we are now somewhere around 21 days. A few days before it began, we were alerted by Home Depot that the custom shower door set that we had ordered and paid in full 30 days prior, specifically so it would be delivered by our start date, was lost. The guy then proceeded to tell us that it could "take roughly 21 days or so...but it could be more like 30 days" due to some mix up in the order. Well, that was all bad. So we canceled it, got a refund, and moved on. Unfortunately, moving on was easier said than done. Berkeley Glass Center is very affordable, most importantly. After looking at a lot of other places, we were shocked by how freaking expensive it is for both custom and standard shower doors, which is how we ended up initially using Home Depot. We were not only happily shocked by how affordable they are, but they were able to fulfill our order within 5 days. My wife made the order on Monday, and today, Friday, they were delivered. FOR FREE! The dudes that work there are awesome. The customer service at Berkeley Glass is some of the best I've experienced, not just in home improvement stores, but retail in general. Their shower door products are of great quality, and they really know their stuff. They do installation, and they also do local deliveries if you opt to install yourself. The first time I came here, about 6 years ago, I had a nice experience -- pleasant customer service, on-time delivery, everything you'd want from a reliable small business. I've been back twice in the past week and have been really disappointed. The guy behind the counter remained WAY behind the counter during our entire interaction, not even bothering to get up from his desk. He answered my questions with the minimum of information, so I was stuck asking a million follow-up questions in order to get the info I needed in order to complete my project, and in general he just seemed put out by the fact that I had come in at all. When I left I thought, "That guy's just having a bad day." The guy who did my initial install of a new mirror in the bathroom was great; professional, courteous, and efficient. A few months later, I had a problem with one of the light fixtures on the mirror; not knowing I should phone Berkeley glass to repair it (mirror still worked), I phoned an electrician. They came out and said the wires were not secured correctly; I was out $265 for the electrical work. I phoned Berkeley Glass to discuss this. I had to phone twice, the manager did not phone me back, but subsequently sent me a letter saying they will not pay anything as my first call should have been to them. Broke an original window in a 100-yr old house while swatting at a mosquito. Stopped in at 9:30 on a Friday morning and was seen immediately. I ordered my 15x32x1/8" non-tempered window glass (would have had to come back for tempered) and was asked if I needed glazing putty and points (which saved me a trip to the hardware store). $25 and 5 minutes later I was out the door with my goods. They also had a selection of putty knives and silicone caulk for purchase at reasonable rates. Would definitely recommend these guys. read more

First-rate work and service. I brought in an antique double-sided tabletop brass mirror with one broken and one spotted mirror. They advised me to replace only the broken side to maintain the value of the piece. They did the replacement on the spot for a very fair price and treated my antique very well. They also quoted me prices for glass shower doors and were happy to look up all kinds of info for me while I was waiting. David is who I dealt with, but he seems disinterested in your situation, or to busy to worry about it, I must say at least he did come out and look, but after that, (crickets, nothing) even after I contacted him personally to tell him that I've been waiting for the estimate for over a week) he told me he would get right back to me with it, still nothing, i was told by him that i would be getting it right after our conversation. I'm still waiting It's Like they pick and choose which ones are important to them, not you as the customer. There are enough glass companies to choose from that will respect you as a customer, and respond in a timely manner. I spent several hundred dollars only to be yelled at by the owner (Tom) and his assistant (Craig) when they made two appointments on two different days and never showed up for installation of very large mirrors. Then when they installed the mirrors in the wrong place, I asked for them to be moved where I had said I wanted them. Instead they ranted and raved and left my house. That is when they proceeded to make appointments and never keep them. Finally, they arrived two weeks later yelling and berating us. I have never had such horrible service and I do not recommend this company at all. I needed some window glass cut on Friday late afternoon. I went in and talked with Candy. She said all the glass cutters were out but might be back before closing. Since I needed it for a contractor the next day (when ALL the glass shops were closed) she kindly and immediately gave me a list of other companies. Berkeley Glass Center is so good I feel compelled to write my first review. They return phone calls, show up on time, and do good work. But there's more: After they replaced my kitchen window, the burglar alarm contact in the window frame ceased to function, so I called the alarm company. The alarm company technician couldn't figure out how to get the window out and move it, so I called Berkeley Glass again and asked them to meet with the alarm guy. They arrived on time on the appointed day. The alarm guy arrived more than half an hour late. They waited for him and when he arrived they showed him how to remove the window.
