Normally I review eats and places of leisure. Today I needed a tower who knew what the hell they were doing. Let me elaborate, I have a 2007 HD Heritage that had the front forks locked. Went to a couple local shops, not a lot they could do for me. Went to TobbacoroadHd and they said ECT could help me. I made an appointment (not on the side of the road) and was met on a Sunday afternoon at my home by Dennis, 40 plus yrs of towing experience, who worked with me to get my bike loaded up even though it was a difficult process, he did not give up on it. Thanks Brad and Dennis. Dennis delivered my d HD to the dealership and called me to let me know it was I their possession. 100% recommend them. I work with first responders, including towers all over the country these guys are awesome. Thank you. read more

Pretty good in a difficult situation. The $100 charge for a 5 mile ride is in line with market charges. The initial call for help was courteous, the retrieval time was reasonably prompt (45 minutes) and the tow truck driver competent. Though the tow truck vibrated like a jackhammer and a tool box in the cab fell over and banged my knee on the ride over to the tire shop, the truck looked well-maintained. Not a relaxing experience, but satisfactory under the circumstances. read more

There are several types of calls you NEVER like to make. Calling a locksmith: bad news. Calling the police: really bad news. And calling a towing company? Somewhere in between the first two. But if you do have to call a towing company, East Coast Towing does a fine job. I had the lovely misfortunate of blowing out TWO tires on my passenger side, thanks to a unforgiving chunk of concrete hanging out on narrow Wade Avenue. I nursed my severely wounded, beastie of an SUV over to Fletcher Park and dialed up AAA. East Coast towing was onsite in about an hour plus, a bit of a wait. We worked together putting the donut on because my little Amigo would be hard to tow with two shredded shoes. East Coast sent out a HUGE flat-bed truck which I was thankful for. After my Amigo was hauled on the bed, nylon belts were ratcheted on to secure each wheel and we were off! East Coast uses GPS to move you to their next location and I believe they charge by the 1/10 of a mile. They're definitely not cheap but in this time of semi-crisis, it was reassuring to see this huge truck in safety yellow pull up to my SUV. You also have the opportunity to provide feedback on their service though the website or a telephone survey. So if you do something equally stupid and destructive to your ride, give em a ring! If you want a company that is predatory this is your place. This company was called out to tow my sons car that had struck a curb and needed to be removed from the road. My son was forced to have the car brought to there lot, and not to the repair shop of our choice. There actions caused us to have an additional tow fee along with a lot fee for sitting on there property. It seems that they took advantage of a young driver who didn't know better. read more

It was just after 11 PM and I was on Highway 70 in Garner when my car stalled out at the intersection. We notified the police and then immediately started calling tow companies. I hate cars. I hate buying them; having to take care of them; having to deal with things that go wrong unexpectedly. I just plain hate cars. The only thing keeping cars just shy of tolerable is dealing with a few nice people who help you out when the unexpected happens. Flat tires. I hate them too. I hate the radio-drowning-out noise they make as they go flat; and the smell resulting from the rubber and friction; and the fact they won't go straight as you try to steer yourself off the interstate. I can change a tire; remove lug nuts that have been super-glued on; and even manage to clean out the trunk to get the crap-tacular donut they call a spare out and ready to go. Sometimes I can even get the jack to work like it should. But not this time. I couldn't get the tire off and the jack went all wonky. So I called the backup - the roadside assistance program I've been paying for and not using for years. They sent Sean from East Coast Towing to my rescue, even with my car-hating, car-cursing, car-condemning-to- perdition attitude in full swing. Sean was beyond expectations: he called to tell me he was on the way and how long it would take to arrive; he was very polite; respectful; showed me what I had done wrong with the wonky jack (with a straight face); and above all, was helpful. He even checked the air in the spare first, something my car-hating self wouldn't have thought to do. And then, he went a step further and checked the flat and told me to get it fixed since he couldn't find (nor did I see) any visible reason why the tire would have gone flat. That bit of news pretty much put me right over the edge from car hating to car-icidal. It can be a crapshoot in dealing with car repair/tow-trucks but if my experience with ECT was normal even for someone not finding them via a roadside assistance program, then you can't go wrong calling them. Cars and flat tires. The only thing to complete that trifecta of misery would be a jerk tow-truck/road-assistance driver. I'm fortunate ECT didn't complete that trifecta for me. It's nice having a bad car day made a bit better. read more

You know some people have all the luck, bad that that is, and sometimes I seem to get it all. I have used East Coast Towing 4 times, since that is who my roadside assistance calls. The first time, I broke a ball joint for my steering on my truck, so I had to get it towed to the shop. I requested a flatbed, and said that they had to pick it up on the truck. Since I was not going to be home, I told them where the keys where. Big mistake. If you tell a tow truck company that your vehicle needs a tow, why do they insist on trying to drive it? Well, they decided to drive my truck up the hill, and then up the driveway. It is kind of hard to steer when one tire is at a 45 degree angle. Needless to say they messed up the grass by trying to drive across it with bum steering, so they had to send somebody out to fix the yard later. Next time I would just stay with my vehicle. The next time, my brakes went out, and I needed the master cylinders replaced, so I called for a tow. I had to go from work, to the repair shop. Since I live in between the 2, I knew it was only about 8 miles total distance. Anything less than 10 miles was covered. Anything more was additional. First thing the driver did, was drive in the opposite direction that he had to go. If he would have gone the short way, he would have only had to go about 8 miles, 3 or 4 turns total. He decided to go 540, which is out the way, and in the opposite direction. He said that it was an additional $2.50 a mile over the 10, so he racked up an additional 4 miles pass the 10. He drove 14 miles, for an 8 miles trip. In the future, tell the driver which direction to drive, don't let him decide. The third time, I locked my keys in the car, both sets while at the mall. I called for a tow. The guy that came out called to give his ETA. He arrived on time, but, he wouldn't unlock my car until I showed ID saying I was the one who made the call. If all your stuff is in the car (except the phone) how can you show him anything. Even when the call was made, his dispatcher told him, what I was wearing, my car color, and the license plate info. I guess he thought somebody jumped me, took my clothes, and decided to wait for a tow truck. The fourth time, yes, I locked my keys in the car, again. (I have a history of doing that.) And I was at the mall, again. When the driver came out, he was so very nice and friendly. He saw us standing by the car, and just went on to unlock it. Since he knew that they already had our name, address, phone number, drivers license, and credit card from when we signed up with the program, he didn't bother asking for ID. We were talking on the phone with him before he came, so he knew who we were. (Too bad the previous guy didn't think the same.) It took him no time to unlock the car. His name was Mike, and he was one of the nicest people on Earth. Based on the first 3 experiences, I would say, they are the people that your assistance provider calls, so you have to deal with them. Based on the 4th experience, it was really painless, and I would give a recommendation based on that one. So I will round up, and give them 2 stars. read more

Broke down on the way home from a car "repair" at a dealership. Long store. Was told to call ECT and they had Tommy out there in an hour. He was friendly, efficient and caring. As pissed as I was we were able to hold a conversation the whole way back to the dealership. Even after he had to get all his paperwork back from the dealership he stopped by the waiting area to check in. Good guy. read more

Let me start off by saying I do not have AAA but I do have roadside assistance from my phone carrier. Since I've had to tow my car three times this year already (I know, my car karma must be incredibly in the negative) I had to pay out of pocket for East Coast. For that reason, I expect good service. East Coast Towing, however, is GREAT. Since I asked them to pick it up from the dealership while I was working from home, I wasn't concerned with how long it took them (I would be much more concerned with timing if I were stranded in cold or hot weather). They quoted me 55 minutes and the truck bed was at my home dropping my beautiful-yet-internally-devastated baby off about 15 minutes past schedule. It was around $70 for them to pick it up from the dealership and drive 2.7 miles to my house. Expensive? Seems so... maybe they upcharge due to interfacing with the dealership, but I was working so I really didn't have time to shop around. $70 was right at the far edge of acceptable to me. They called me once they were on their way and a second time when they were outside. The driver had to back a huge truck bed into a narrow driveway in downtown Raleigh in the middle of mid-day traffic -- and did it flawlessly. He was also kind and considerate with my car, which is all I can really ask. Next time I may shop around for a bargain, but East Coast could be worth the price knowing the good service I'll be receiving. read more

Called AAA on a Thursday evening after I blew a tire on the road. I pulled into a business park so was in a safe area but it was dark. AAA told me it may take up to an hour for someone to come by and change the tire. East Coast towing was there in less than 15 minutes. He was very professional, friendly, organized, and thorough. He quickly changed my tire, showed me why it wasn't repairable, and double-checked the bolts. I was very impressed by the quick and thorough service. He waited for me to leave the area before he left. A great experience for a pretty stressful moment. read more

If you live in the Charlotte/Gastonia area and you are a member of AAA, chances are that if you make a roadside assistance call, the dispatched affiliate company will be East Coast Towing. This company seemed to be very reputable and had several recommendations, so I didn't really have any reason to think otherwise. Then the nightmare began. I originally requested a diagnostic or battery/power test because my vehicle would not start. I was berated by one of their dispatchers who kept asking me if I needed a jumpstart. I told him that I had no idea what I needed, but as the vehicle was completely non responsive, I would like to get it checked out first to see what we were dealing with. He sent a tow truck to provide a jumpstart, although I had requested one. The driver then proceeded to try to jump start the battery approximately 15-20 times. After about the sixth or seventh time, I told him not to worry about it and I would have it towed to a repair technician. He continued to attempt to jump the vehicle connected to the tow truck until the starter became locked and would not shut off, even with the key removed. He was forced to remove the battery terminal so that the starter would switch off. I immediately voiced my concern and displeasure with the service thus far. He called his dispatcher/supervisor who immediately instructed the driver to tell me that what he had done did not cause the problem. Gee whiz, I wonder what caused it then. A short while afterward, the diagnostic vehicle I had originally requested arrived and could not connect the batter as sparks would fly and the started would run non-stop. He tested the battery and told me it had not been the problem; which we would have found out initially had my request been followed. The next morning, another driver/technician from East Coast Towing towed my vehicle to an authorized AAA repair location. A representative from that location called me and basically refused to touch it and was unwilling to perform any repairs or diagnostics of any kind. I then called East Coast Towing and spoke to a manager. He was very unsympathetic, unapologetic and basically stated that they had no liability whatsoever for the service work that was performed. His only offer was to tow the vehicle from the repair facility at their expense. I took that as a slap in the face. The bottom line is, the vehicle is now in a different state and different condition than it originally was prior to their service call. All I wanted was for the vehicle to be diagnosed properly, and to this point it still has not been. It is a late model used vehicle, not worth much more than $2000, but the fact that I was ignored, shouted at, cut off and for the most part brushed aside has left me with a lot of indignation toward this company. I will pursue the matter through legal channels by the consultation of an attorney. If there was a satisfaction survey to rate my experience from 1 to 5, I would rate it a negative 10. The company's drivers were friendly and courteous, but the management was extremely unpleasant and caused one of the worst service experiences I have ever had. I would not recommend this company or service to anyone who is a resident or visitor to the area. I plan to file a formal complaint with Triple A and the BBB, naming triple as having partial liability. Auto repair horror stories happen to just about everyone, but if you find yourself dealing with East Coast Towing, get documentation on everything they do and be very careful. read more

Terrible experience with East Coast Towing. Was trying to handle getting a friends car to a dealership to get her starter fixed (covered under a recent recall). I couldn't get the car to start. The dealership recommended East Coast Towing so I called them, they quoted me $75 to get it towed. This part was fine. Upon the driver showing up I was informed I was trying to jump it the wrong way, very confusing battery setup in the particular vehicle it was. He attempted to jump it however it wouldn't work because HIS battery box wasn't fully charged (his own words). I told him that I no longer needed it towed if it could be jumped and if he couldn't do that I no longer needed his services. He told me they were going to charge me $75 regardless just for him showing up. I am a local business owner and this is simply piss poor customer service. They got my $75 however it will certainly lose them way more than that $75 in future business as anyone I speak to regarding towing will be steered away from using their services. I would have been fine paying a $20-$30 fee for his time and the education on the battery setup of that particular vehicle, however charging me the full amount for doing basically nothing is a load of crap. read more

He made sure to call/text me when he was on his way and after he dropped off my car at the body shop. So when the same car failed yesterday, I had to call AAA again and this time I REQUESTED East Coast Towing. I had a different driver but he was as friendly and professional as the first gentleman. Just want to say thanks for great service from John who helped us out twice: once at the Garner library and today at 40/42. Great guy, very funny, kept us laughing through a frustrating situation. Response time was great: first time was within 15 minutes, second time they said expect within 45 and they got there in about 30-40 minutes. Called when they were 5 minutes away, which really helped us in our planning. Hope we don't need your services again (for obvious reasons) but if we do, we know John will make it a little less difficult. Matthew Bailey of East Coast Towing responded to my AAA call for assistance with a recent accident. My car was backed into while stopped at a red light at a busy intersection. The fender of my car pressed against the tire making the car inoperable and the car sat impeding traffic. Matthew and the responding police officer did a nice job in assessing and then removing my car from the intersection and then towing it a short distance to more fully look at the damage. Matthew was able to make a temporary repair and I was able to then drive to the body shop. He responded quickly, was polite, understanding and very helpful. This is my second interaction with East Coast Towing and like the first time when my son's car broke down and they towed it, I have found them nothing but the best at what they do with honesty and integrity. I do not have triple A, but my car died this afternoon and my husband called East Coast Towing. They said there was no one in the area and it would be an estimated 2-3 hours. It was rush hour so we were good with that. Josh ( our driver) got to our location in under an hour. The rate was also excellent.
