There's a mini slide and water showers for kids and a couple of slides for adults or older kids (minimum 4 ft tall). Good location for people who live in east Austin. Outdoor pools with family area and lap pool with lifeguards. Group fitness classes are included with your membership, living up to the "Communities" name. Sliding scale pricing depending on your income. The locker rooms/showers are usually dirty/mildewy and that's unfortunate. The swimsuit spinner has a moldy smell coming from it and it leaks onto the ground so I don't recommend it and to be careful since the floor is often wet. But if you really need a gym or pool access in east Austin, this is a place! read more

First season of flag football at this YMCA. Playscape for player siblings is a major plus. Fields are good but they need to deal with the ant problem. Good organization for the program and good refereeing. Will definitely return for another season. read more

Discovered this location as it is closest to my family's home East. We are with Northwest. Love Chasco for its indoor pool. And this East Communities Branch location became my little family's favorite outdoor pool, really fast. The lay out is open, there is plenty of space for everybody. Water streaming and splashing everywhere. 2 big slides, 2 little slides. And there is a separate pool for swimming lanes swimming ‍ . Big kid loves their 2 slides. Convinced that the blue one goes fast, and it really does go fast! With the white one, I tend to 'rock/ cross cross' and kiddo needs to push himself down. A quick tour through the building concluded to a clean branch, friendly staff. The basketball court seems to have a brand new shiny floor or they have kept up their maintenance really well. They have extended their pool time to 8pm daily, and 6 pm. on Sundays, and this is till October. The only reason for 4 stars would be that the open connection between locker rooms to pools, have led to a toddler running off after getting dressed and straight to the pool around closing time. Pretty decent gym! It's not huge but it has the minimum you need to get a good workout in. They equipment is pretty new and overall it's very clean. They also have a great trail for biking and walking, pool, yoga classes, and pickleball on sundays! For the price it's definitely worth it. read more

This is a good YMCA. I've been going for about 4 months and I get in a good workout there. They have all the necessities. Some equipment is a little dated, but they have everything you need for weights. Plenty of treadmills and ellipticals too. I've never had to wait for one. There's an outdoor lap pool and kids pool with a slide. They have classes but they aren't as plentiful as some other gyms I've been to. My daughter loves cheer at this location and the gym is good enough. It's old and not fancy but it has weights and a treadmill so I make do! The pool is new and has two water slides so that's a big attraction for the summer. First off, not enough parking, says don't park on grass, but people do/have to anyway. Dinged one start for that. Only part I can rate now is the lap pool, went there and took a short swim. The main pool was closed and had algae in it. Pool temperature was good and pool was clean. Went around 7:30 and only had one other person there at the time. I got a membership to this branch for the classes, which were great quality and value; however, they were often cancelled in the middle of the day I had planned to attend. I tried to cancel my membership as a result of classes being cancelled and my schedule being repeatedly impacted, and they would not issue a refund for final month due to 10-day cancellation policy, so I ended up paying for a useless month. Glad to donate that to a good cause like the Y, but disappointed in this organization putting the fall on the customer for poor delivery. read more

AWESOME FACILITY but too many staff members that just don't care; particularly as it pertains to their aquatics program. Communication is poor and staff do not respect family's time. As a native Austinite I want to use the facilities that are in the neighborhood in which I grew up, but I won't settle for this. My kids and I deserve better. read more

We finally joined! The Child Watch was a big part of the decision. It's nice to know I can leave the kids - even my one year old! - there while I work out. The kids pool is great for all ages, and I have been very impressed with the toddler swim lessons. They've got my daughter jumping in the water and going under after a day or two of apprehension. We'll definitely continue with more swim lessons after this session. Classes are small and well run - way better than City of Austin lessons. I've been using the rowing machines (there are two) and going to some of the fitness classes. None of them have been overly crowded. I especially like that they open at 5:30 on weekdays and classes start at 6:00. (And there's coffee!) Thursday afternoon bonus: an amazing local farm stand is there with other grocery items (organic canned beans, pasta, etc) that seems to have very competitive prices. I was able to pick up everything for ratatouille after swim class last week! So rad! Minus one star: sometimes it seems like it's kind of humid inside? Like, the thermostat is just a little too warm? I'm usually cold, so I think is is a thing at at Y. It seems to happen early in the morning and just before closing. Also, the ladies locker room floor can sometimes get pretty slippery around 5:00, because every mom brings their kids in there after the pool and everyone is dripping all over. I wish the ladies locker room was a little bigger for this reason. Early in the morning it's fine. read more

We just joined and love it so far. We were greeted when we arrived on Sunday evening (VERY empty then..hint hint) and given a tour right away. We signed up and paid for the one month of boxing for my son. First boxing lesson last night and he loved it. He kept saying how nice the coach was..yay! My hubby and I hit the gym and were very impressed with the new Nautilus equipment. Plenty of elliptical machines and treadmills. Lots of free weights, medicine balls, mats, etc. Something for everyone. After boxing my son hit the lap pool (Dang it! I forgot my suit) and he was the ONLY one in the pool. As we were leaving I saw people playing volleyball and wanted to join in....perhaps another night. We look forward to the benefits of this membership. read more

YMCA East Communities as a whole lacks a lot. Shower curtains, soap, cleanliness BUT their youth basketball program rocks! Coaches and refs are great! The staff that put the teams together was efficient. I have never expereinced anything better with other team events like these at the City Rec leagues or at the Optimists Club or local gyms. YMCA gets a WOWWWW for this! I wish we had tried it out earlier. I wonder how the other sports at Y East are! read more

If you are trying to enroll your kids in classes at this location than don't expect any communication whatsoever. I enrolled my daughters into a dance class and two different swim lessons and never got an email or phone call about the classes changing every time. Dance class changed to a different day. My daughters were bumped into different swim classes that they weren't signed up for twice. Not a phone call or email from a single person in management. Please save yourself the headaches and take your kids somewhere else. read more

So i have been taking my kids here almost a year now ( June makes a year) at First i wanted an affordable Martial Art but then i was able to learn about all the programs that the Y provides and now my sons are doing soccer! Highly recommend due to the affordable programs and the friendly staff. Call me old fashioned but i like to go in person to make my payments for the classes and the staff is alwayd friendly and attentive everytime i go in. shout out to Nancy at front desk for always being helpful and informative on all my questions she is the who ppl first see and talk to when they first walk in so the Y chose a perfect person to represent them. Also shout out to master Salinas and his instructor Kayla for doing an amazing job in the tae kwon do classes they naturally care about the kids in the class and my sons love coming to learn. This is a really great Y! It's small and an older building, but don't let that turn you off. The gym area has a lot of variety, though it is on the smaller side. There's a gym where people are always playing basketball. There's a lap pool and kid's swimming area. I love taking the group fitness classes here. Dan is one of my favorite spin instructors, Lisa's Zumba classes are on point, and the restorative yoga on Sundays is exactly what the doctor ordered! Everyone who works here is just so friendly, and they all get to know the people coming in, so you don't feel like just another number walking through the door. My daughter loves the playground out by the soccer field here too. It's never crowded and it's covered. read more

Seems like a nice facility. I've been here twice as an AWAY member. Staff is very friendly. I will say, I come here only because it's right next to a trial I can do my long runs on..... I have not used there equipment. Heads up on the trail...... There is no water unless you stop at the tennis courts on your way back 4 miles into run. I bought YMCA family membership in the mid of Jan of 2018. We tried one or two times and realized it does not fit our need. I paid membership fee for Jan (partially) and requested to cancel the membership near the end of Jan of 2018. However, I was notified that the membership can not be cancelled until mid of Feb (per YMCA 15 day advance notification). The cancellation clause was never mentioned during my sign-up. read more

Aquatic director is very rude and his team of instructors are very poor in their skill set. I would not recommend signing your children up for swim lessons at this location unless you are okay with the director yelling at your children. This team lacks the compassion and patience to work with beginner children swimmers.The Department is also unorganized. I was also told my child could not wear her life jacket in the pool because it was a policy implemented by the Aquatic Director. When I inquired why, I was told that the life jacket could damage the pool equitment.....? It is unsettling that the life gaurds are 16 and 17 year old teens that seem more interested in socializing with one another and girls at the pool than watching for safety hazards in the pool area. I have watched my child being pushed and knocked down by other children right in front of life gaurds, without the employees blowing a whistle or even taking a second look to ensure my child wasn't injured. Not to mention, when I take my daughter into the bathroom to change there are mothers allowing their 9 and 10 year old sons to change right out in the open. Not appropriate for young girls to be subjected to young boys in the nude, there should be PRIVACY in the girl's restroom and changing areas. This particular YMCA has gone without a Pilates Instructor for almost a year. I adored the last instructor but she quit when the director implemented a policy that instructor's children could not access the child care center. She had a two year old son and was forced to resign due to no childcare for the hour class she taught. I also was notified that my child is not allowed food or drink in the child care center because she may choke. Apparently at this YMCA the child care employees are not certifified in first aid, or CPR. I hate to break it to the YMCA, but children also choke on other things besides food, like small objects and toys.... Anyone working or supervising children should be mandated to be certified. I would recommend the YMCA Townlake and Northwest locations, but the EAST location is poorly managed. read more

Upon visiting, the front desk notified me that the online registration had a "glitch" and should've been charging more for my membership and that next month they would increase my bill by $15/mo. I love the Y! I've always been intimidated by gyms and fitness classes; worried I wasn't coordinated enough, wearing nice enough workout clothes, or not in good enough shape and would stick out like a sore thumb. The Y is not intimidating and feels more like a community center than a gym, and that's part of the reason I enjoy going here. It definitely isn't as fancy as other gyms (the spin/cycle classes are in a small room that I think was the old computer lab), but I never worry about going here with dirty hair and makeup-less. I mainly go to the Y for the classes they offer (and they offer a good variety) and I enjoy the classes I've taken here; always getting a good workout from good teachers. I've only ever used the machines on the weekends and it's never once been busy (people are there, but I've never had to wait for a machine). The Y may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I like it! read more
