This gym is decidedly for people who are tired of expensive, exclusive, weak gyms. Weak in the sense they do not really promote getting bigger, stronger, healthier and (happier because you're free from back and knee pain.) I've been a member for only two sessions and bought a 10 day pass for $80 with credit card. That's a good rate for a gym session and reasonable. I don't care what the other offers are, if you can get your gym trips down below $10, it's a win in my book. I've worked out at the following places in Austin, ranked: Lift ATX - East Austin - $55/mo (1 month) - Solid. Music is good. Can workout outside and enjoy the couple nice months of temperate weather in Austin. No commitment. Staff is nice but no nonsense compared to gyms that are overly accommodative i.e. there's no young girl to get all excited and show you around the gym. You wont see many people completely out of shape here and that's probably because it seems intimidating since so many people workout without a shirt on and are in shape. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I speak for myself to I say I enjoy seeing people get in shape at the gym. Everyone respects struggle and hard work so if you're on the fence about showing up, and getting a workout in, just do it. I wont judge you and I cant imagine anyone else would either. It's an accepting kind of place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Just don't play on your phone instead of working out. There's not enough space for people to lounge around and workout. They'd need to build another gym for that. [[HIGHLIGHT]]On the influencers, there's been one to two people recording at the gym when I'm there. I don't care. Old person gym but that doesn't bother me. They do Silver Sneakers which is a Medicare thing. Good Saunas. Good parking. Good to see older people staying active. Inspiring. Lifetime Fitness - Downtown (2 years) $230/mo - Phone Gym - Good cleanliness and they try to make it as pristine as possible. Great if you want to force yourself into a "economic boot camp" by paying that much. You'll go a lot to try and get the cost down. YMCA - Town Lake (3 months) $75/mo - Phone Gym - My favorite part was seeing people who were special needs. Felt like we were part of a community for the better of Austin. It's inspiring to see people who are have special needs enjoying themselves, happy; and they're always happy at the Y. Unfortunately, the gym is terrible. There's stuff broken all the time. I left a while ago- because of tiny bathrooms, overcrowding, and the price for what I get... I ended up joining another gym(onnit). Way more equipment, not overly crowded, it has AC, sauna, cold plunge(soon!). I just didn't feel I was enjoying my time here anymore. I'd say this gym is definitely more for people trying to become "influential" in the social media world, esp w bodybuilding and powerlifting. I just wanted something more functional, & more about the health and wellness aspect of lifting. I think they would benefit from expanding the gym, since it's super crowded. This is by far the best gym in Austin! The owners and staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. This gym is like a community and nothing like a commercial gym. It's a novelty place for visitors to visit and even a perfect gym for Austin residents. There's plenty of equipment, fresh air, and space. Super reasonable day pass and membership prices as well! Simply put- there are too many "influencers" filming themselves. It's frustrating walking around so many tripods and being caught in others people's filming. I just want to workout! It was my first time at Lift ATX and I made the mistake of not re-racking weights. I do apologize for bad gym ettiqutte and I'll own up to it. Sometimes I get lost in the moment and forget. These are the types of gyms I love. No frills, great prices, and good vibes. The equipment isn't equinox level, but guess what, you're not paying equinox prices. Far from it. They do, however, have everything you'd need. The people here are awesome. Laid back, chill, and kind. I'd take this over pretentious, clique-y BS any day. For starters, this gym is a community where ALL are accepted regardless of their fitness level. Whether you're a bodybuilder or just starting out, you'll feel safe here. You'll also never have to worry about feeling like a dollar sign. They don't use long contract commitments for retention because they know it's not the money that makes a difference. I came to Lift in hopes of getting stronger and more toned through personal training sessions. The gym was extremely crowded and the cardio equipment was always broken (and was never repaired in the months I was a member), but I looked past that given I was primarily there for personal training. Unfortunately, the personal training sessions also took a turn for the worse. Over the course of several months, I asked a few times if we could have some consistency in scheduling (instead of scheduling the Sunday before the week of for the following week) and explained that consistency would help me plan ahead better and prioritize training (which you would think would be in the trainer's best interest.) Towards the end, I was told that these requests were "giving attitude" . The trainer left our chat that we used to plan sessions, unfollowed me on Instagram, and messaged my workout partner complaining that he could no longer deal with me telling him "how to run his business". The trainer, Lamont, also spent a good amount of time in our sessions on his phone and on Instagram. The workouts were sporadic and clearly not planned in advance. I've since moved to a new personal trainer who has assured me that none of this behavior is normal, and my new gym and trainer has (and prides itself in) consistent scheduling, excellent workouts that clearly monitor progress, and free nutritional coaching for the same price as training at Lift. read more

LiftATX is an absolute bop, and anyone who disagrees clearly has some self-confidence issues they need to get through. I've been here exactly a year. From the moment I stepped in, it felt like home. Honestly, it was more of "home" than the gym I'd been going to for 10+ years in Nashville. The community of people is what makes up the heart and DNA of LiftATX. There's a grit and grind here that just doesn't exist anywhere else. Don't get me wrong, this gym isn't for the faint of heart. If you don't like the heat, stay out of the kitchen. If you don't like the cold, sit down with some soup. The elements outside directly influence your workout. Which in my opinion INCREASES the output and return. Which encourages you to keep up with what's healthy for your body. Many places will try, but all will fail to emulate the absolute VIBE that this place is. Went to gym to escape LA Fitness turns out to be worse. Gym is filled with pretentious social media influencers who think they're special because they "lift weights" and you know damn well these people wouldn't be into lifting if social media did not exist. Their whole identity on social media is that they "lift" if you see these people walking down the street they're no bodies, but on social media they're somebody, they get likes and encouraging comments blah blah. I guess I'll just go back to working out in my garage like I did during covid. Gym also has a bit of a woke vibe, wokery has now infiltrated the socalled fitness community. I LOVE this gym! It has everything I need including airflow! I love how there are so many different sections and it keeps me motivated and never bored to workout. Everyone that works there is so knowledgeable and friendly and most importantly I feel safe going there during COVID. The gym owner is always looking out for the safety of everyone in terms of making sure machines are clean and people are being responsible. Was staying in town for a business trip and decided to check out Lift ATX because of its proximity to my new workplace. Boy did I make a mistake. The gym reeked of "ass and balls" something closely resembling a highschool gym with a bunch of teenage boys. Although the gym equipment was standard, the layout of the equipment made it feel small and crowded. I decided to end my workout early and look for another place. Hopefully with new management things will change, but for me personally, I won't be coming back. read more

Great gym! I've been lifting for 27 years and this is probably one of the top 2 gyms in terms of equipment and people. White lights: - Great powerlifting room that is VERY supportive of lifters - Can you say diversity? Great mix of ethnicities and genders - Really good equipment and the owner keeps adding better stuff - The gym is half inside, half outside. Fresh air is healthy! - I get to pet dogs every time I'm there - Awesome swag - Very few egos Red lights: - Dumbell room is small and can be hard to navigate, but I hear talks of expansion... - Used to smell like sewerage outside when it was hot but I think this has mostly been resolved! Phew! - It can get cold, so layer up! - The music in the dumbell room is extremely loud. From being not as active and not consistent working out at an apt gym, I got a day pass and at first I thought, "oh, this seems like a very "bro" gym, will I feel comfortable in this space?" As I did my workout, I realized that people there are focused on their fitness goals and I needed this environment to get motivated and to keep coming. The outdoor heat also was a factor at first but i knew that pushing in the heat helped for me to get the best workout possible. On top, I felt people were generally friendly when engaged. After I was hooked! ... I will say with the good there are still some bad. It can get busy, equipment could be a bit more up-to-date, but very happy with this place! read more

My wife and I just moved to ATX and we were looking all over Austin for a good, old fashioned, bang and clang gym. This gym has gone above and beyond our expectations. The price is amazing for all they offer. It's never been uncomfortably crowded and every person here, both working and lifting have been super nice. Carlos is the man and he definitely made us feel like part of the family over the last month. Met the owner Daniel and he is awesome. He knows what he's doing and utilizing every inch of the space here. HIGHLY recommend this gym to those looking for a great environment (where people interact with you IF you want or leave you alone to get after it) or those looking for an amazing day pass experience if you're just stopping through Austin for a quick trip and lift.
