Hitting it hard at the gym yesterday. Specific focus weights...I try to work out on weights at least three tunes per week. I focused on upper body...as a side note, I hate working out on upper body. I decided to join Gold's Gym since it was very close to my home, they have many locations across America, and I have had heard many great things about the corporation. I was able to secure a $30 per month membership since I signed a contract for 12 months, and that grants me access to any location that is the same or lower tier. I have been to cycling classes with Megan Smith and yoga classes with Kayur Patel. Both instructors are so friendly, knowledgeable and encouraging. All the staff members that work out at the front desk are so friendly, the always greet me and say goodbye. I was surprised to see so many lifting platforms and different machines I have never seen before. The only complaints that I have is that since this is an older gym, many of equipment is dinged up, but still operable. Also, instead of a posing room, I wished they used the space for a more functional amenity, like a hydromassage bed or a red-light therapy bed. If you are looking for an affordable gym where you can get a great cardio and/or strength training work out, this establishment is a great option since they have a vast variety of machines and equipment. read more

It's kind of hard to rate this gym as I have had multiple different experiences here. However, I'm going to go with an overview and see where that takes me. The men's locker room has a maximum occupancy of 41. The space would make more sense if the bathroom wasn't so big. The lockers are narrow and there's always someone within 2-4 feet of you. Uncomfy. There are ample treadmills and equipment but most of the time 2-4 treadmills are broken. However, they definitely are quick to fix them. I love the two rooms where not too many people workout -- they seem to be the only places I am comfortable stretching and doing floor exercises. There are also workout routines written on the wall from classes that are held which I love. The parking is what is actually insane. I can't even explain how busy this place gets at the most random hours. Yes, there's additional parking across the street but it's just not convenient. I find this gym worth the value over somewhere like Planet Fitness. This, too, feels like a no judgment zone. read more

Amazing location. Lots of parking. Compared to other Golds gyms this location had plenty of updated equipment.

As of 9/13 there was a lot of construction going on. It looks like they're adding space and more machines? I couldn't say exactly, and I didn't ask. The staff is really friendly here. I always get a greeting and a goodbye and they are pretty quick to help if you need anything. I have not tried any of the classes and I'm not sure I'm going to. However, I have heard good things about their Cross Fit sessions. I took a star off because there is just something grimy about this location. I wasn't sure if it was just the odd lighting or what, but I've gone and bought myself my own barbell pad as the Velcro on the ones here don't close anymore and just feel filthy. I'll keep going as the location works well for me; I can't really ask for much more. read more

THE BIG: Deceptively large golds gym with yoga studio, GoldsFit, sauna, etc. Right at the end of the North Loop highway attached to Aveda Arts & Science institute THE BLACK AND WHITE: I came here after my first golds gym closed down (RIP Tech Ridge). This is a pretty decent gym with a selection of weights, machines, and cardio. Stairmaster, ellipticals and cycle room are upstairs. Treadmills, stretching, goldsfit, yoga, bathrooms and weightroom are downstairs. Downside is there are only 4 squat racks and they're always taken. I love taking the goldsfit classes THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall not a bad gym. Has all the essentials I need. If you want a All-Texas golds gym pass it'll be $35/mo. If you want just this local gym pass it'll be $25/mo. read more

I signed up for the $15 a month for 3 month special (no contract), but what they don't tell you is you will be charged their annual fee the 2nd month that equals more than the cost of paying for the full 3 months. At no time did anyone mention this & it was not advertised along with the special. I believe this to be intentionally deceitful & just wrong! read more

There's absolutely no where to park, nowhere, they decided to redo the parking as well during high volume time making people park at hotels and apartment complexes. In top of that they have a woman over the intercom screaming at members to move their cars when there is no parking, it is ridiculous. If I can't park at the gym then cut my membership price in half. read more

I've been a member of Gold's for 4 years. Last week my family and I had the absolute worst experience using the kids club for the first time, which resulted in my wife and me canceling our memberships.    I'd like to say this had nothing to do with the kids club itself and everything to do with the GM, Brian Perry's ridiculous behavior. As we were leaving, Brian felt the need to have one of his employees hand me her personal cell phone so I could listen to him try to reprimand me for signing my child out at 1:05 rather than 1:00. Yes, literally 5 minutes.    I listened to as much of that as I could before I handed the phone back to her. The next thing I know, he's walking up to me to now harass me in person in front of his employees and my family. His explanation for his sudden appearance was to "make sure we're clear on the rules." Brian was actually in my face attempting to intimidate me to, in his words, "make sure we're good."    I don't know who Brian thinks he is, but I have never been talked to like this in any gym in my life. I feel sorry for anyone that has to work with this psycho.    On the way home, my wife and I both received an email from Brian. Rather than maybe apologizing for his erratic behavior, the email was asking both of us if we'd like to cancel our memberships. Least to say, we will be doing so.    This was the most unprofessional and embarrassing experience we have ever had. I will not spend another dollar here ever again. read more

Terrible gym. Very dirty and the management doesn't care about their members - it's all about money. Parking is scary - lots of cases of break in and tires being slashed. The staff are generally nice but the manager is terrible. At the shower room, there's cases when some guys open curtains or peep down the curtain and even if it's reported, the management don't do anything. read more

It's okay. The staff is friendly and they do have basic plate-loaded equipment so it's a beginner friendly gym, but I, personally, have outgrown it quickly. There's really not enough space and machines for the number of people that come here. The place is also falling apart with leaks continuing for months and the floor is coming up in so many places that you trip just walking on what you think is flat ground. It's not a super dirty gym but it's definitely not kept very clean. It's similar to LA fitness in terms of what they offer (no pool & no squash courts though) and the type of people that come here (iykyk) but gold's is cheaper, so that's a plus. I joined Gold's gym to rehab a spinal injury after about a year in physical therapy. I made the mistake of purchasing 13 physical training sessions. I had no idea what I was in for. SPOILER: $1,051 in charges I never authorized. $600 of which I got back, after metaphorically crawling through glass and eventually Karen-ing my way to Brian Perry the manager. $451 they've still kept to this day. I have, to date, been charged $149, $360, $451, and $600 for personal training since I signed on October 9, 2020. The $149 and the $360 are what I agreed to. ' What they don't tell you, is you're secretly signing a contract to put you on the hook for seemingly random amounts of money each month. On Nov 25 I was charged $451 (when you exclude the monthly gym dues, which are totally fine and dandy). On Dec 26, I was charged $600. I was never even issued an invoice for the $451. They just charged my card with no receipt or invoice. If I'm lying, I challenge Golds to furnish proof that they issued a sales receipt for the $483.46 (again remember, roughly $30 of this is just the membership dues and that's cool) or any kind of proof of purchase. I told my trainer and the fitness manager who signed me up I was only interested in the 13 sessions, and wanted to re-evaluate after that. Did they do anything about it? Nope. They didn't even know. As Dawn Walker the Member Experience Manager said: "well, you signed a contract". I never used those personal training sessions I didn't ask for. I never scheduled anything. It would cost golds gym NOTHING to refund me for these services I never used or asked for. But, Dawn and the rest are not interest in the ethicality of what Gold's is doing. They are only interested in the Ben Shapiro-style "well you signed a contract" side of things. So, be careful what you sign. They won't be honest with you about what you're signing. They'll SAY you're purchasing 13 personal training sessions, while having you sign 5-6 long documents that they know you don't have the time to pour through in detail. Then when you say "hey that's not fair, I didn't want to buy this" they'll tell you to go kick sand. I eventually got someone at corporate to refund the $600, but to this date I still have not been refunded for the $451 they tried to sweep under the table by keeping off the books (and not sending an invoice or receipt for). I doubt I'll get my money back. Don't sign anything here, it's a dystopian capitalist nightmare. read more

I've been trying to my a few of the Golds gyms out in the area and I'd have to say of the options around this is my favorite. It's not great... But it's not bad either. So that says a lot about the other locations. 6th street is a close second. read more

It's a cheap gym, and maybe I don't have the right perspective, but I have been to a lot of gyms at similar price point, and this is the worst one, and by far the worst Gold's gym I have been to. It has everything, free weights, classes, cardio, sauna, but everything they have is a 4 out of 10. There are NEVER any clips, why are there never any clips? Equipment is older, and it is super super overcrowded all the time. I travel for work and go to Gold's gyms when I am traveling, and this is by far the worst one. read more

Crowded. Fits a lot into its small space. Dumbbell area feels claustrophobic and leg equipment is lacking, but overall it's a strong location with some nice deviations (excellent Life Fitness leg press) from the standard equipment you'll find at other Austin locations. This gym is pretty cool, two stories with cardio on top and weights on the bottom. They have added a separate kind of "Leg Room" with barbells and other leg machines which is nice when the other equipment is taken in the main area. This gym would be enjoyable though if it weren't CONSTANTLY PACKED. I've been here all hours of the day. 5am-9pm and the gym is 5pm crowded everyday at all hours. Maybe somehow if you're lucky you can get in there at 8pm on a Sunday (when they close at 9 on weekends) you can get a decent workout in without it being crowded and waiting for machines. Another big negative for me is the cleanliness, the gym always stinks like a permanent stench that will never go away no matter how many times they clean it. I understand it's a gym but I've been to many gyms and other golds that don't look and smell like this one. Despite seeing them somewhat try to clean the gym, the trash cans are always overloaded with paper towels and this is just due to the outrageous amount of people who go here so they obviously can't keep up with it. This goes for the bathroom as well, it's always really stinky and dirty, paper towels on the ground, water spilled everywhere on counters, floors. The bathrooms need a huge renovation, they are just old and looks like mold somehow permanently stained into some of the counters. Even if you wipe the area, it still remains. Next the staff! Most unprofessional staff I've ever encountered with! Very rude and they hardly ever greet you in, especially the manager, Brian Perry! He never once smiled nor greeted me and I saw him do this to numerous amounts of other people as well. There's a couple young kids there who actually do try to be nice and greet you in and out but overall the front staff . There is a personal trainer named Buddy who is a really cool down to earth guy and actually cares about the people there. He's the only actual professional working at this gym. I've seen other trainers here at this gym and I wouldn't pay them my last dime. I've seen and overheard the way they interact with they clients and I just shook my head and couldn't believe that they were getting paid for that! Looked like they didn't give any interest or attention to actually helping their client. Very sad. Overall I HAD to go to this gym temporarily for a few months and it had the potential to be really enjoyable, but just gave me stress everytime I went which is the opposite of why any person goes to go to gym in my opinion. If you can afford to go to another gym, I highly recommend it. If not and your unfortunate like I was, you'll see for yourself. read more

This is a fine gym! it's not the newest but it has a good selection of weights, machines, and cardio equipment. There's an upstairs and down stairs which helps with space issues. I go first thing in the AM and always see the employees cleaning and wiping down equipment. The front desk ppl are always friendly and Brian the GM has been helpful on every occasion that I've needed help or had a question about my membership. read more

Overall, I really like this gym. All the equipment is kept in good condition, the bathrooms/locker rooms are always clean, and its a good size gym over all. If you plan on working out between 6am and 7am or 5pm to 7:30pm, expect it to be pretty crowded with limited parking but besides to those times, it's pretty empty which is nice. There are a few things that I think need to either change or at least be known. 1. For the amount of squat and bench racks (which is awesome), there is a serious lack weight locks. This is a major injury concern when only have the people lifting have the ability to use them. 2. It would be great if there were some sanitary supplies in the bathrooms like Tissues for starters. 3. Some type of towel service. I would not mind paying for it but most gyms these days offer some type of towel service. It really sucks to bring wet towels in my car every day after working out. read more

Gold's recently closed two other nearby gyms, and so now this gym is expected to serve three times the members that it used to. It is always crowded and you often have to wait in line for machines unless you get there at 5am. When I miss the 5am slot, I google to find the least busy time later in the day. Golds gym should be ashamed, their handling of the coronavirus was an absolute disaster. I The gym closed in March due to the virus and re-opened in May. During that time period I sent an email and created 2 support tickets on Member Service portal. Tried calling and they would NEVER answer the phone. I took actions into my own hands and had my credit card company block the charges. I reached out to Brian Perry, the GM of the gym requesting cancelation and to credit my account the charges. He said he could not access the Member Service tickets-- unbelievable! Sir, that's not my problem. I did everything I could to cancel the account. All that has happened from that communication from Brian is they are now harassing me, sent me to collections, and charging me $20 each month for a declined card. I went ahead and submitted a claim to the BBB. Whatever you do, DO NOT go to Golds. I understand the corona virus has been tough on businesses, and I had full intent to go back to support them. The GM at the gym reached out and was very accommodating. Ends up there is some fine print that you need to still cancel the no contract trial pretty early on. My general review is that there is a lot of cardio available if that is what you are looking for. For me, having 3 squat racks and only 2 (maybe 3?) benches make its kind of difficult to find open equipment so it just wasn't for me. read more

Honestly this review would probably be 5 stars, but they still refuse to open the pool that closed during Covid due to "extensive repairs needed" and no time frame given for reopening. Just be honest and say it's cheaper to charge people the same while not having to pay to upkeep the pool. Considering switching to a gym that has a pool and doesn't try to rip people off. Lower the cost due to amenities not being provided, or open the pool. Other than that the gym is good. A bit cramped, but love the upstairs/downstairs concept. Cardio theater is cool too. read more

Gold's Gym not getting any better, may be time to look at other places to lift weights. Same cost as always that I paid but after Covid 19 yet to this day pool is still closed and the hot tubs and Lap pool has never re-opened. No more protein shakes to workout with or to enjoy after your work outs because that area as well is still closed down. Sauna is now the only extra perk and that is only open cause it is in locker room instead of being next to pool as some other Golds locations. However be prepare to not be able to use it unless fully dressed in sauna no towels allowed. Last year sign said "No Street Clothes or Street shoes allow". Very dirty looking sauna the last few times I tried now cause instead of guys sitting and wearing a clean towel and flip fops they are wearing street shoes and their sweaty gym clothes and I notice that a few men are going back out on the gym floor in their wet sauna clothes and lifting weights again, very gross. Gold has lost it's luster. This location continues to decline in services and it's facility. Been a member since 2014 and this is not the first time for me to address my concerns, but however as I have read other reviews all you get in response is a "we hear you" email and yet, no action is ever taken. Workout area- each week you will find more or the same equipment in need of repair, cleaning, or missing parts of it that make it unusable. Men's Locker room- poorly maintained, the a/c has not been working for more than a year, instead large fans are set out to blow the hot air around. Showers- there is visible and smelly mildew in each stall. A simple scrubbing with any good cleaner would help but all you'll see is this area given a mopping and spray down of some disinfectant from staff. Sauna- there has been some attempt for cleaning but never thorough, the benches have mildew and some in need of repair, walls need to be scrubbed as well. Pool and hot tub- closed down during covid, and never re-opened . This was my initial reason for my first complaint as less amenities were offered yet same membership fees were collected. Team- some improvement in greeting guests and not just on phones. After contacting management through email( Manager Perrry offered discount in one response) and speaking directly to them at site about possibly getting discount on membership fees I was surprised that they quickly agreed each time. None were ever followed up on their side. Questioned one team member that told me their system must of had a glitch, and will address again to manager who is hardly available. Never seems to have a glitch on collecting my fees. Currently waiting on an email response from Rick Williams so I can secure my CANCELLATION, even that is a hassle. Hope someone at this Gold's location sees that it's time to shine things up. read more

So Golds has closed down at least 2 other Austin locations and it seems most of the refugees from those locations have made their way to Highland. It's busy as hell 7 days a week at all hours of the day. Before deciding to get a membership take a look at other area gyms, we have loads of smaller independent gyms around town and the other big box gyms have similar membership prices. My typical 1 hour workouts are now at least 2 hours simply because of how wildly overcrowded this place is. read more

Oversells memberships so that their facility is usually crowded. Requires a contract which is nearly impossible to get out of once you realize that the gym is always going to be crowded, unless you happen to have parents who live in rural Montana you can pretend to move in with. Other than that, pretty decent facility with good equipment but don't expect to be able to do a lot that requires any actual creative movement or wall space- just use the machines provided and stick to weightlifting. Just got kicked out of the sauna for being in there wearing a just a towel- because it is a sauna and that is what you do in a sauna. Apparently they had an incident in there of some type and so now all members must have shorts/ gymwear/ swimsuit on in order to enter. Extremely annoying as one of their own Golds website ads shows someone sitting in a sauna wearing just a towel! Unreal! If you are a swimmer you should join another gym. These guys have closed down their pool "indefinitely" after they went bankrupt and a new owner took over. They are the only major gym in Austin with the pools shut down. They do a better job than others keeping things clean but if I can't access the pool to swim laps (my primary workout) then the gym has a massively diminished value to me. Management seems annoyed to answer questions on this subject as well- those pesky gym members paying their salary - wondering about amenity access - seems to be annoying to them. read more

(08.05.2024) Hey Everyone, I hardly leave reviews because I don't really care for them due to always giving an establishment the benefit of the doubt but I am honestly tired and annoyed with the high monthly rates for a membership that isn't up to par with how much gyms charge. Let me further elaborate my frustration with everyone so hopefully you won't commit the same mistake as I. First, this gym is severely packed early morning (05A-08A) and even after work as well (04P-07P); genuinely hard to get in a great workout without minimal hovering around awaiting equipment. Secondly, the men's restroom appear to have an on going issue with some patrons not knowing basic human decency/house etiquette and properly flushing the toilets without making a severe mess. Lastly, which is my breaking point as of today is there constant hot water on all water fountains and the water bottle fountain stations. Everywhere in this establishment the waters continuously poor out hot water. Not sure what is different today but today the water actually felt like hot shower water. I was told the issue would resolve itself within a few minutes to give it time to cool off but this water issue has been constant at this location. Literally. Same thing. Overall dissatisfied with how much I am paying for this gym and it's not even worth it. read more
