I've taken two cooking classes here both with Chef Gabriella. She is awesome. A classically trained…read morechef who knows what she's doing. The first cooking class was Latin steak night where we made steak with chimichurri and gelato for dessert. The second cooking class was crabcake with steak and garlic aïoli with oven roasted asparagus and chocolate lava cake. It was such a delicious meal. And she is a fantastic instructor. I've signed up for my third class and can hardly wait. As for the store itself, the staff are really nice. I've purchased a number of items here. If you take a cooking class you also get 10% off in the store which I took advantage of. They have a beautiful selection of just about everything you would ever need for your kitchen and serving goods. What's not to like about that?

In the class I was signed up for (which was a gift with my daughter-in-law who took the class with…read moreme), the menu we purchased was NOT the menu. Crepes are not Vietnamese spring rolls. Pretty big difference. The chef told us that "corporate" has been told multiple times to make the website reflect what they are ACTUALLY going to make but refuse to make the corrections. We were told we couldn't take any food home with us, though there were many leftovers (only 3 people in the class). I was not alone in my surprise that the store policies meant that staff got to enjoy our food instead of me enjoying it for dinner (unless it went in the trash which is unconscionable). Would not recommend!

Went to People's and purchased a new double door frig and used range for my new business.I was told…read moreby the employee that the range was in good condition and he personally knew the person who had owned it. Once the appliances were delivered I contracted a appliance technician to connect the oven for me and test it out and was told the oven doesn't work no gas to the pilot and one of the burners doesn't light. Contacted Peoples and was told there was no warranty. I was put on hold and requested a call back and newer received one. Spent $4,000 not to a call back. I would not recommend buying anything used from there.

Ok, I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!…read more It's located near Eastern Market in Detroit right on Gratiot. My daughter needed some supplies for a catering job that she is doing so my first thought was to stop here. We were able to pick up cookware, serving dishes, bakeware, knives, aprons, serving and prepping equipment, and they even have large commercial appliances. Everything was price VERY reasonably and the quality is great. The staff is super friendly and very helpful. If you are having a graduation party, family reunion, or even just a dinner party, it's truly worth the drive.

When we heard it was sadly closing down at the end of the year, we made a special trip just to stop in here. It's a beautiful store with more than just gardening supplies. We picked up some toys for our cats as well as some Christmas ornaments and postcards as memorabilia. And I especially love how despite Luis the store cat passing away over 10 years ago, you can still find lots of references to him around the store. Really wish there was a way to save this place. :(

No matter the time of year I love visiting Downtown Home & Garden. My previous review stated, "I love any store where I can get tulip bulbs, a new bird house, a winter hat shaped like a Christmas tree, a new cookie sheet and a loaf of Zingerman's bread" and all that still rings true. But these days I also add national parks merch, gear for my dogs, holiday decor, kitchen gadgets and cookbooks and, perhaps most exciting for a Polish broad like myself, a variety of Polish pottery pieces. In the spring and summer months I can be found perusing peony bulbs for my garden, hummingbird feeders, bird seed and squirrel proof bird feeders, planters, plants/starters for my veggie garden, pest control and fertilizers, plus a variety of lawn decor and sculpture pieces, etc. Some things can be kind of pricey but you truly get what you pay for. Even after years out in the elements everything I've bought for my yard here is still in amazing condition, my plants from here always yield the most delicious fruits and veggies, and the little birdies are so happy with the snacks we provide them from their bins.
