The location it was held was so small and intimate, allowing for crowd interaction, while limited as it was, was extremely welcome. You go to watch a dancers perform on stage and while the choreography was just simply amazing, what you also get out of watching this show is an amazing story acted out by amazing performers/actors. You can see it on their faces and their movements, every emotion and intent they meant to portray on that stage to illustrate an amazing story telling experiences. I honestly do not think there was a dry eye in the house the night we went. I can't wait for the next chance to see Beyond Babel again, there is no doubt I will try to see this or any other production this troop does next.

(Already, this was going well.) The theater itself is tiny, and without any amenities. The seats are just chairs lined up on risers. There is neither a concession stand, nor a bar. There IS a tiny little bathroom with a sign that says "No flushing during performance" (the theater is that small), but no sink to wash your hands. Which isn't a big deal for me because...well, look at me: proper hygiene isn't among my priorities. Despite all this (or perhaps because of it), I kind of love it. It's so unabashedly low-budget, and the performance was so brazenly ridiculous. Admittedly, I've only attended the one show at The Brick (so far), so I find it a bit hard to separate the venue from the performance. However, if Flying Snakes in 3D is any indication, this tiny little theater books thought-provoking, amusing, outlandish, avant-garde, FUN productions. They don't follow any rules, and there's something extremely enjoyable about seeing other people enjoy themselves so much on stage. Be warned: This isn't Broadway. Don't come in expecting any traditional sort of theater. I mean, I've never pelted performers with rubber snakes before. At least not during the performance, and at their behest. If you do take a chance on The Brick, as you should, I would just go in with an open mind, prepared to see a show unlike any you've seen previously. Which I think is a good thing.

Or you could spend a fraction of that on some truly original work. An innovative, intelligent, small theater. The work produced here is amongst some of the most trend setting, edge cutting, and experimental to be found in NYC, the U.S., and the world at large. And even better, if you show up to one of the last shows on a Friday or Saturday night, there is almost guaranteed to be a friendly and lively after party thrown in the theater space itself, hosted by the cast and crew. Where else are you going to see my own drunkenly performed karaoke versions of Journey, full length theater pieces about text based adventure gaming, and burlesque numbers performed by gorgeous men and women dressed up as Seven of Nine from Star Trek and Doctor Manhattan respectively, all under one roof? This sort of thing is simply not being done anywhere else. Show up or run the risk of being left in the dust of theater history. A few notes on the space. It only seats in the range of 40-50, so purchase your tickets in advance. If a show is popular, it *will* sell out. If you'd like to be part of the onstage fun, sit in the front row. The performers are on the same level as the first row of seats, and are frequently pulled up into performances. If you're more of an onlooker, head toward the seats at the back.

I don't want to give too much about the play away because I know she will perform it elsewhere but if this is the sort of theater coming out of Cherry Lane, it's a harbinger of good things for the future. The theater itself is quite intimate, with only 16 rows or so. I was near the back and didn't feel like I had to squint to see the performance on stage. Whoever did the set design made very good use of the stage space such that the audience could feel transported into different "rooms" and time zones. Acoustics were pretty good too though I would occasionally miss a part of the dialogue over the sound of the cacophonous laughter in the audience. There is a bar in the front and you can bring drinks into the theater. I wish I could've also checked out Wild Cherry, the restaurant attached to the theater, but it's too poppin right now. Some of the best stars got their start at Cherry Lane and it's lovely that they're drawn to such a place a short subway ride from where I live.

I love that you can have a nice meal in the connected restaurant, Wild Cherry, and then pop out a few minutes before showtime and find your seats. The bar in the front is very chic and I love the attention to detail. A warning-- seats in row S on the stage are on barstools with a back. They are cushioned and somewhat comfortable for what they are, but sitting like that for nearly 2 hours is challenging and not necessarily comfortable. These are the cheapest seats and they'll still run you $65 each after fees. The next tier was something like $85-100. I completely understand supporting local theatre, but I generally won't even spend $100 on a Broadway show unless I'm dying to go, so the comfier seats weren't even an option for me, which was a bummer. You also cannot eat any of the snacks for purchase in the front during the show if you buy a seat on the stage. Overall, I was extremely impressed with "Shifters" and I hope that all of the plays that are put on here are this good! I'd love to come back.

Then there's A.R.T/New York Theatre in Hell's Kitchen. They showcase an interesting mix of local artists from across a range of cultures and pay extra attention to those plays that may be under-represented in other locations. Main level elevator takes you the 2nd Fl. concierge and directly to one of A.R.T.'s rooms. Everyone was pleasant and it was a nice first impression when we came on a Friday night with our friend and her husband who invited us to see 'Bruise & Thorn' (til March 27th I think), The theatre is kept clean and sanitary especially since folks are constantly coming and going. We had no issues. There was hand sanitizer around and vax+masks are required. We drove down and parked a block away- but just so you know- this theatre isn't all that well-connected by public transportation- so plan way ahead of time if you're relying on mass transit because it's a long ašš walk to get here.

The Circus used to come and park in a vacant lot near my house in Florida. That was my first experience seeing a sideshow. I was in Second or Third Grade. Every time I get the opportunity I have to go see the sideshow acts. Coney Island was my go to place at one time. I'm fond of the Fortune Teller. That was pre-Covid-19. I don't know what you will find if you visit Coney Island now. I'm posting some photos I took a long time ago. I have my memories of fun times until I can get back to Coney Island Park again. I hope the sideshow will still be there. There's one of my photos of what was a beer joint. Coney Island Brewery is there now. After the second, they wanted us to spend $10 on the show poster. Then after the blade box act, they wanted us to pay to come up and see the trick. There was one more act & then they were asking us to pay more money to see something else. I appreciate the art & understand the sideshow needs to be supported, but I paid for a show & saw maybe 15 minutes of actual acts. I hope they reconsider the format & their approach to donations.

I come here now and again and this time around it was to see the Japanese comedy/horror 'Hot Springs Shark Attack', which was a lot of laughs. To get to the theater you need to walk through a portion of the hotel and head downstairs. It's next to the Django Jazz Club, which is also a great venue. It's a very nice environment, I think. Kind of elegant. If you see a film playing here that interests you, I would definitely encourage you to go. You'll like the vibe, I am sure.
