I have now been to East Side Spa twice and I can say that I should have just listened to all the reviews people have already written. Each time I have gone here they have exhibited poor customer service. From the moment I made my initial appointment, to welcoming me, to making me wait 30+ minutes? Both times the situation just felt wrong and I honestly should have left. I got my haircut here a few months back and it was a less than desirable experience. It was pretty awkward and I spent most of my cut feeling pretty weird and wanting to leave, but obviously wasn't able to. I also went here for a Brazilian. If you're reading this and asking yourself if you should get one here, don't do it. Enough people on here said not to and for some reason I didn't listen, but I'm confirming that you shouldn't. The salon its self is cute! Im not one to leave negative comments but... I bought a groupon for a manicure and pedicure. Made an appt. and they redeemed the voucher. Got their late because my bike broke down. Called to notify them. Was told they only had time for one service and I could schedule for the other. When I got there the nail technician was trembling (and looked sickly: sweating profusely, looked flushed) they were unable to do my nails very well making many mistakes and having to take breaks in between. Hope they're okay. They made me feel as if they didn't care and only worried about how long they were taking to do my nails. They couldn't even rub the oil into my nails when they were done applying polish. They mentioned that they hadn't done nails in a year and usually just did hair. After this experience I no longer wanted any of my services here ever. I asked for a refund if not full a half refund but all they could offer me now was a touch up on my nails. Booked my first manicure in two years here as a treat before starting school. I was able to secure a booking within one day, which was nice, but that's about all the positive things I can say. My manicurist Hunter was nice but it seems like she is more skilled with hair than with nails. She used a heavily used nail file to lightly file my nails, which is not sanitary. She hardly soaked the nail beds and barely trimmed any skin around the nail bed. Didn't even trim or push back the cuticles. And apparently this salon only uses a warm oil to moisten the skin instead of soaking for several minutes in warm water like every other nail salon I've ever been to. So I paid $40 for the shellac polish manicure on 3/7 at 12pm under the assumption that it would last a solid two weeks. However, on day 2 I had significant cracks and peeling from my nails. I have healthy nails that grow very fast so the issue is not my nails. I called the salon on Monday 3/9 between 1pm-1:30pm to ask for a refund because I am starting school and do not want to spend an hour at the salon again. The receptionist was pretty abrasive and seemed insulted that I wanted a refund rather than coming in to get my nails redone -- seriously? So after talking with the receptionist I agreed to come in for a redo however my school had already started so I said I wasn't available until after 4pm most days. The salon doesn't open until 10am which is when my earliest classes start, so coming in early mornings was not an option. After looking through their booking schedule she wasn't able to find a time that would work for me and said she would talk to the manager and get back to me. I made sure to leave her my cell phone number and told her to leave me a voicemail since I would be in class the rest of the day. However, I never received a call from the receptionist or the manager by the time I'm writing this review, 3/13. Not only will I -Never- return to this salon again, but I will be telling all the girls in my classes to never get their nails or hair done here. Complete waste of time and money. Hopefully the management invests more in their employees' training than their vintage décor and pink house paint. read more

Dana just cut my hair and that -ish looks gooooood. Yeah, I said it. My hair looks good. And it's not like it's easy, either. I've not been blessed with long, thick, luxurious locks. Nope! While I have quite a bit of hair, it's most certainly rather fine, which limits possibilities for me. (Read: can't really have long hair, it looks too mousy.) Also: I have a fabulously ridiculous cowlick smack dab in the middle of my forehead, which tends to throw a wrench in the whole thing, too. Oh... you want some super-cute trendy haircut, Rachel? You want bangs? No way, says the universe. Outta luck, girl. So, I'm in need of a serious trim and I remember that I've been meaning to visit Dana at work. I've heard nothing but good things about her cutting/styling prowess, so I call and slide into an appt. last minute. So: call, and hour later? I'm in the chair. Nice. And aside from knowing Dana personally -- which I do somewhat -- she's really really awesome at what she does. She talks through your hair type, your options, and what you want with you. And really... she gets it. Sometimes, folks don't get it, but Dana gets it and did an amazing job cleaning up my angular, brunette bob. East Town offers a ton of different services, none of which I partook in... just went for a cut this time. I'm not sure how Groupon ever works out for businesses, it seems like it always leads to low ratings and reviews. I think what happens is Groupon leads to a deluge of customers and workers have to work harder than usual for the same pay or even less in tips. I have to say, this place was an exception. In spite of the fact that I was using a Groupon discount that made my massage priced well below the area going rate, I got a good massage. I'm hard work, I don't regularly get massages and my lower back requires the masseuse put in a lot of physical effort. I did not feel like I got discounted service and they even offered a follow up visit at the discounted Groupon rate. I like the old building it's in, I thought the service overall was pretty nice, and I like that they have National Geographic for me to read while waiting. read more

I have been going to East Town Spa for the past year or so for haircuts. After moving to Milwaukee, I bounced around from salon to salon, using Groupons to try to find a place a liked. I first visited East Town using a Groupon, and have since stayed. Greyson has always done a very nice job with my hair, which is thick and naturally curly. The service is good, the atmosphere is nice, and the prices are solid, especially in the city. I will continue to go to East Town, as I appreciate having a reliable and affordable place to get a haircut. read more

I would NOT recommend this business. The customer service is nonexistent. I get massages regularly, so I know what the typical practices and expectations are, so I showed up 10-15 minutes early for a deep tissue massage. The therapist didn't come to get me until 5 minutes after the appointment time started and the session ended a few minutes before the end of the hour. When you're paying $1.50/minute, every minute counts so I talked to the manager afterwards and was offered me a 10 minute chair massage, which I did not think was acceptable compensation. I was then offered $15 off my next massage, so I decided to give them one more chance. The same situation happened again! I showed up early and when the therapist came to pick me up, claimed he didn't receive the notification that I checked in until after the appointment started, and when I explained that I checked in 15 minutes early, he proceeded to argue with me and tell me that it was my fault I was losing time for the session because I was lying about showing up early. So either the receptionist or the therapist was just trying to cover their ass, and then blame it on the customer. It was very unprofessional. When we got to the actual massage, there was clearly tension in the room and an edge to his voice. At one point he reprimanded me strongly for moving my neck, which if I did, it was unconsciously done, and there's a better way to say it then to make someone feel like they purposely did something wrong. I had a facial this afternoon that was relaxing and left my skin feeling deeply cleansed and glowing. My esthetician clarified my skin concerns before the appointment started and went from there. She put a lot of care into the service and obviously also wanted a great outcome for my skin-- plus I felt so relaxed afterwards! The building is older and a little outdated (think thin walls), so I could hear people having a conversation in the room next to mine during my service. I came in for a massage and facial. Two things that I do often. It was easy to make an appointment and they even sent me a reminder text. The phone staff was helpful and polite. Massage- Nothing but good things to say about the massage he gave. The space is unique, cozy, relaxing, and comfortable. The massage was perfect and he communicated during the massage to give me just the massage that I would like. 10/10! Facial-Chloe gave an good facial during the time that she worked on me. The space is cute, private, and relaxing and Chloe is polite and gentle. Cons:There were two, 5-10 min sessions during my 60 min facial where there was product on my face with the steamer over me. During this time, nothing else was done. I've been to numerous facials and they are always doing something during this time whether it be a hand, décolletage, or even a foot massage. There were no extractions with the facial either. I offered some constructive criticism after the facial about this and she replied that those extra services are for the 90 minute facials. Not the best answer, as 60 min clients should get the same service, only shortened. Needed a hairstyle not just a haircut so I thought I would give the neighborhood salon a chance. While, I did receive an adequate style I believe the salon could improve their customer service dramatically. First, employees and stylists were dressed really unprofessionally. I get being casual and comfortable but a professional stylist that's expecting to get paid professional rates should look like a professional and throw away thread bare yoga pants and the t shirts with businesses on them. I was in the salon for more then an hour and was never offered a refreshment, cup of coffee or even water all the while other clients were. My girlfriend also went in for a manicure and then nail polish started chipping off the very next day. She felt cheated or even ripped off because of how expensive the manicure was. Would give 0 stars or -2 stars if I could. DON'T GO HERE. First off, I went to their brady street location. I understand it's an old building so it's small, whatever. But still, the inside is so poorly decorated and the little tiny reception desk is ugly. Just not a relaxing, fun vibe like you want when you're going to a salon. A cute vintage charm would have been nice but nope, just old and musty. It was really hot the day I went and they didn't have AC, so I was just uncomfortable the whole time. I had a groupon for an eyelash lift, and they make you redeem the Groupon BEFORE even getting the service. Really weird.. but I made sure I was able to go to my appointment because I wasn't going to just lose my money. So for the service, Im pretty sure I recognized my technician from school so she couldn't have been older than me (22). She also didn't wear gloves or wash her hands (at least that I saw) so I found that really strange and "uncomforting." The little room we went in had no door and the old, dirty quilt I had to lay on had huge stains, super gross. There was absolutely no music playing in the entire salon or the room we were in, so I sat in silence as I waited for my lashes to "curl." The entire time I heard the phone ringing and the automated voice saying who it was and idk what the receptionist was doing, but the phone hardly got answered. For the service, it burned a few times and the technician almost completely fixed it. There was still a lot of adhesive on my eyes after she was done so she gave me a little cloth and told me to finish up... ok? Looked into the mirror after, not a single difference. Didn't look "lifted" nor curled. Waste of money. The technician wasn't rude or anything, just didn't say much or greet me or whatever so I tipped her just on the groupon amount because I felt bad. Long story short, waste of money. Don't go here for that, and idk. I'm sure there are better salons elsewhere for whatever else you need done. read more

Ashley does great shampooing it's so relaxing. I loved my hair and the price of it was a great price for shampoo and curled and bangs! I am shocked by the low reviews...like, double-checked-I-was-on-the-right-page shocked. I moved 3 years ago and I *still* drive up from Chicago every time I need my hair done (I even had my whole wedding party get their hair done at East Town). I've seen and loved several stylists (shoutout Katie!), but most recently I saw Graysin. Graysin is amazing. I saw him for color a couple times before my wedding (LOVED how he did my blonde balayage) and he also did my wedding trial and day-of hair because I wanted to wear it down. I could not have been happier. He thought of a perfect style that I wouldn't have considered, and it held up for 12 full hours. He is incredibly talented and has a great eye. He listens to what you want and then recommends a way to do it that somehow makes it even better than what you're imagining. He's also THE BEST to chat with--the time flies. SO glad I came to Graysin and I will absolutely keep driving up from Chicago whenever I need anything done to my hair. Swish swish, haters ;) read more

I decided to get some dermaplaning done before a bachelorette party weekend in Miami! I was pressed for time and Jamie was able to squeeze me in. And let me tell you she was beyond wonderful!! She was patient and really took her time to remove my dead skin cells and some hair that I wasn't comfortable with. She walked me through the process and what she was doing as she was working on my face. She really evaluated my skin and realized it was a bit on the dry size and was agitated. She offered a face mask that she felt would really help my skin and rejuvenated my face. I was a bit nervous because some masks or hydrating masks can make me break out and bother my skin, but this mask was so wonderful!! It brought hydration back to my skin, brightened it, and the cooling effect really felt amazing after she completed my dermaplaning. My skin felt SO soft after she was finished and my makeup glided on so smooth!!! If you're looking for a great spa and awesome aesthetician I would highly recommend Jamie Gant!!! She is so welcoming, friendly, caring, and really knows her stuff!! I can't wait to come back for another mask and dermaplaning session and to try some other spa treatments with this great lady!!! I don't like writing poor reviews but this one needs to be spoken. I went for a bridal hair & makeup trial and was extremely disappointed. The place was a dump, the lack of professionalism was frustrating, the hairbrush she used to comb my wet hair(!) had a ton of other peoples hair in it and after sending multiple pics of a basic round brush blow out... I left before anyone could touch my face with makeup. Certainly not the place I would bring my bridal party. Spare yourself the time and go elsewhere. read more

This place DISCRIMINATED against my aunt who did not speak English but was accompanied by a family member who was there to translate. My aunt is an elderly person who experiences back pain. My wife and I decided to buy her a massage as a Christmas gift. We would've never thought that a massage parlor would discriminate against individuals in this manner even AFTER telling the receptionist when the appointment was made that she couldn't speak English and would be accompanied by someone who was. They said OKAY! Terrible business and customer service! Complaints have been filed to the state and we are reviewing if we should pursue legal action. I showed my stylist 5 pictures and my hair is nothing like what I showed her. She shaved off half most of my hair, and left an awkward flop of bang right on the top of my head. When I contacted the manager to ask them to help me, she asked me to send pictures of my hair & the pictures I showed my stylist. So far, no one there has acknowledged the shaved, ugly mess I am now. I received an eyelash lift and my lashes were left worst than to begin with. I have had this service done multiple times with great success at another salon but because of a recent move decided to try a place closer by. I DO NOT recommend purchasing this service at all. I am very disappointed as I did this service in preparation for my wedding makeup trial and now will have to reschedule that. I do not understand how a salon can charge for a service it does not know how to perform correctly. A lash lift should last "6-8 weeks" according to the salon and now I have lashes that are damaged and worse than I walked into the salon with. Let alone I spent money on this! I did call back to give this feedback and I was told I could come back in for a consultation to see what went wrong BUT they couldn't do anything to fix it for "weeks" based on what they saw. After what happened, I declined and will just go back to my other salon. But in the meantime, I am left with lashes in horrible condition and nothing they can do.....no reimbursement or compensation was offered either. Beyond this service, this salon is old and smells. The furniture and decor is dated and worn. I did not feel pampered or taken care of while there and wanted to leave even before the service started. Again very very disappointing. After an appointment my wife made didn't start until 50 minutes after its scheduled start time, I attempted to make an appointment to use an existing voucher. This spa actually discriminates available slots based on whether or not you have a Groupon voucher or not. Although this is well within their rights, it is not on their fine print within Groupon. I called and talked to Manager (Sarah) and gave her an opportunity to resolve this. She stated "well, we told out Groupon rep to put it in the fine print, but not sure if they did". How does this help me? It would have changed my buying decision. She stated there was nothing she can do to help. I worked in customer service long enough to know how this should have been handled. Give me a reasonable appointment, and check with Groupon to make sure the fine print is updated to avoid this going forward. It's simple to me, but she was unwilling to help. I moved to Wisconsin from California about a year ago and have been looking for a place to have my hair cut ever since. I'm extremely picky. I found a groupon for East Town Spa and made an appointment. They were able to fit me in that day. I made my appointment after asking many questions and the receptionist was so patient and answered every one. I had my appointment with Graysin and am I glad I did. He is AMAZING. My mother saw a picture of my hair and said she thought it was the best haircut I've ever had. Many friends complimented it as well and I recommended this place to them. I was very particular about what I wanted- brought in a couple pictures too and he went above and beyond to deliver. This place really needs a long lesson in customer service. I recently purchased a Groupon for a shellac manicure. I scheduled an appointment for this past Saturday at 3:15pm. Upon arrival, I went to the front desk and checked in. The woman was unfriendly, looked like she hated her job, and just told me to have a seat. I asked if she could point me in the direction, because (clearly) I did not see a space to sit. She looked at me, like she may kill me, and says "the chairs." Well, no shit Sherlock, I wasn't planning to sit on the floor. I was asking WHERE the chairs were because I obviously did not see them. So, within the first few minutes of walking in, I already wanted to walk out. Honestly, if I didn't have a Groupon, I probably would have. I sat down.. in a chair!.. and only waited about five minutes until my technician greeted me. Let me preface, the technician was really sweet, but again, it seems like everyone there needs a brush-up on general customer service skills to remind them what's appropriate and what's not. She told me to go pick a color, which I'm surprised they didn't just have me do right away. It seemed fairly inefficient, especially because I felt like I was being rushed since she was just sitting there at her station waiting for me. Maybe that's just me, but I felt like I was wasting time. Anyway, I sit down, and she asks if I currently have shellac on. I told her yes, and then she said there was going to be an $8 removal fee. EXCUSE ME?! $8 for you to take my nail polish off? I told her that when I called to make my appointment, nobody ever mentioned there was a fee for removal. They didn't even ask me if I was going to have shellac on when I came in. Some salons will ask when you make the appointment, and then tell you to come in a little early so they can start the soak process. But hell, they don't charge you for that! I mentioned that I was pretty disappointed nobody told me, considering the Groupon, plus the removal fee, would total the amount of a shellac elsewhere. She definitely apologized and said someone should have told me about that upon booking. I said that's fine, and that next time (despite the fact there will be no next time) I will know. Nonetheless, she proceeded to ask if I would like her to remove my polish. Well, unless you plan to paint over my current shellac, I think you need to remove it! Geez. As I mentioned, she was a sweet girl, but throughout the manicure, she kept saying how tired she was, how hungry she was, how she wanted to go home, how she was up past 2am fighting with her boyfriend... wtf?! Why are saying this to me! I've had plenty of experience working in the service industry, and bottom line, you don't say that type of stuff to customers. The actual shellac was ok. It's been five days, and both my pointer fingers have chipped, my left thumb has a crack in it, and my right thumb is peeling. I would not suggest going to East Town Spa for a shellac. There are plenty of other salons where your shellac will last longer. During my manicure, a hair stylist was vacuuming and mopping in the hair salon part of the spa, which is right next to the nail area. It felt a little awkward and definitely wasn't relaxing. I know there was someone getting a massage downstairs as well (she checked in right before me), so I sure hope her massage wasn't interrupted by the sounds of vacuuming above. I was pretty glad when the appointment was over. The same lady as before was behind the desk, and she didn't end up charging me for my removal. I didn't ask her to waive the fee, so perhaps the technician never told her? I'm not sure, but either way, thank god! So, based on this experience, I would not recommend this place at all. read more

My eyelashes look CRAZY terrible after a lash lift this afternoon. I can't even wear mascara because they're so wonky.. I really regret this, and have tried using oil and water to undo it with no luck. I didn't realize how bad they were at first because I got chemicals in my right eye, and it was burning so bad I just wanted to get out of there and get eye drops. They must have used a super tiny rod because they're curled starting mid lash instead of at the base and then swoop up, and then down again. Don't get a lash lift here... My eyelashes always look so pretty and long when I use a lash curler at the base and do a light coat of mascara.. and now I can't do that... I never imagined leaving and looking worse. I can barely wait for them to grow out so I can put this behind me. read more

I bought a package deal for here, 40 bucks for a massage, haircut, highlights, hand wax and eye brow wax. 1) Massage was a 1/2 hour, quite delightful 2) Eye brow waxing the girl did not spend much time on mine at all 3) Hand wax nothing to write home about 4) Haircut I left crying... the man that cut my hair cut the angle wrong and cut it 2+ inches shorter he admitted he made a mistake cutting it! I don't know much about cutting hair but the techniques he was using seemed probably outdated! read more

Today I got my hair done for a wedding. We were a party of 8, all in the bridal party. The customer service was terrible. One stylist in particular, Grayson, had terrible manors and treated us as burdens instead of patrons. He kept expressing his dislike for up do's, all throughout the appointments. The up do's themselves were not done well, then he was "unavailable" to fix them. The mother of the bride's hair was so bad that she left the salon in tears. When we spoke to management about the issue nothing was resolved. The only positive was that the stylist, Katie, did an amazing job on the two girls she had. A day at the salon should be happy, relaxing, and a bridal party should leave feeling gorgeous and ready. This was a terrible start and I would never recommend going here. read more

Trying to get someone to answer the phone is frustrating enough when trying to contact East Town Spa, but to make things worse, when I was finally able to schedule an appointment, and showed up, I was told that no appointment was in their system! If this salon charges you if you cancel within 24 hrs of the appointment, then they should pay me for them canceling without notice! I shuffled around my schedule a lot for that appointment, and I wanted to look good for an event the next day. I also came across town, during rush hour, and to find out that the receptionist failed at her job, even though she took forever typing my info into the computer for the appointment, claiming she was just double checking to make sure she has all the info in her system correctly - and yet somehow, no appointment scheduled?! I'm sincerely done with this business. No one should have to experience so many issues with a business. There are much better places to go to, where clients can actually relax, and not have to experience so many frustrations. This business needs lots of work, and hopefully they get it together before they lose all their clients. While East Town was failing to answer their phones, and while they were incorrectly scheduling appointments, I went to Salon Nova instead. They fit me in right away, and I am so happy with the exceptional work they did! Night and day from East Town. Unfortunately, I still have an unused Groupon for a massage and facial, and I seriously want my money back!! I cannot believe the amount of issues that I've experienced with this place. Being new to town and desperately in need of a wax I decided to give East Town Spa a chance (despite their sub-par reviews) as they could get me in on the day of (today). Lesson learned- you don't "just give a place a chance" when it comes to your vagina. Having been getting Brazilians for 5+ years you would think I would know that.. So I notice that they have a Brazilian deal running on Groupon and upon me calling them they honor the Groupon price without me having to purchase through Groupon. AND they can get me in this afternoon. Even better. I arrive, have zero problems finding parking (+1 star for convenience) and find the place cute for a retrofitted mansion. Reminds me of San Francisco (home). So I'm shown to a waiting room and given some papers to fill out. Standard papers until I get to the one that's a consent saying I won't sue them due to side effects of waxing (bruising, etc.). Yeah I get it, I wouldn't sue you in the first place, but that's just kindof shady in my book... So let's cut to the chase. She was 10 minutes late. Fine. The waxing room made me uncomfortable. No sanitary paper on the table and some weird plastic gel mat on it with rips in it. Plastic/vinyl can be disinfected and wiped down, but not when it's ripped and the fabric insides are coming out. Not to mention that the ripped plastic doesn't feel good digging into me. This girl was sweet, talkative, didn't make me feel awkward and was SLOW. She cleansed my skin but didn't put down any powder so the wax stuck to my skin and she kept pulling it up. Again. And again. And again. So now I'm left with massive bruising (that I'm not allowed to sue them about, remember?). I'd post pics but NSFW. It was a mix of hard and soft wax but she left the hard wax on so long that she had to chip at it to get it off my skin. Ta-da! I'm done. Not so much. No tweezing. Lots of hair left. And she left the top part of my bikini line.. Soo a reverse bikini wax?? I didn't even bother to complain because frankly I didn't want her to try and fix it. On to a real salon to be cleaned up. DO NOT GO TO EAST TOWN SPA... EVER! This is by far the WORST place ever. My review is not based on the shitty customer service, the lack of security within the building, or the shitttttty manicure and pedicure I got; in fact it is MUCH MUCH Worse than that. I called to make an appointment for the Groupon deal for a Manicure and Pedicure for $29. Never had a problem with Groupon services before (and after contacting Groupon, the assured me that an investigation would be completed). In hindsight, I should have spent the $80 for a mani/pedi at a REPUTABLE Spa; financially, I would have come out ahead. Instead, I have a MASSIVE WART from the UNHYGENIC PRACTICES OF THIS self-proclaimed 'SPA'. I have been to the dermatologist and will have to return in a couple weeks to burn the damn wart away. DO NOT GO HERE! If you want a cheap mani/pedi, go to the Asian salons around town. If you want the SPA experience, be prepared to spend more; it's true, you get what you pay for. read more

NO STARS!!! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! After using a groupon, I was asked if I wanted to repurchase the same service. I did. I arrived 15 minutes early for my next service, paid for the off street parking, and was told that THEY OVERBOOKED. I asked for a refund. I was told that I had to call the manager. When you call the spa an automated system repeatedly texts your phone trying to set up an appointment. No one calls you back if you leave a message. I sent 2 e-mails and no response. I stopped into the shop and the receptionist recalled the overbooking situation and said that the policy is to REFUSE to refund anyone ever. If you constantly have no timeslots available and overbook HOW is anyone supposed to use the "credit in their account"? JUST REFUND THE MONEY! read more

Came here today with a Groupon for lash extensions. With it being Sunday, and Father's Day, finding a parking spot was very easy. I got there about 30 minutes early and was shown to their waiting area right away. I would have loved to be able to browse their lobby as it is filled with makeup and other goodies. My actual appointment took about 1 1/2 hours and the woman I had did a very good job. I love my lashes and she explained the after care very well. I gave 4 stars because I felt that I didn't feel very welcomed. It is also pretty dusty in their waiting room, especially on the window air conditioner. I can see myself returning in the future but probably not on a regular basis. read more
