I'll admit it. I'm not very adept with chopsticks. I prefer to use a fork, especially when the food is as good as it is at Eastern Dragon. My standards for Chinese food are fairly high. I grew up eating authentic Chinese dishes prepared by my friend's father who immigrated from Hong Kong and owned his own restaurant in Philadelphia. Dishes at Eastern Dragon are nowhere near as authentic as dinners at my friend's house but are almost as delicious. The menu offers traditional "American-ized" items as well as some gourmet specialties. Sushi and some Japanese items also share space on the menu. On my last visit, I tried the Dragon & Phoenix. I am a sucker for food items that sound like they came out of a Harry Potter movie. This dish is the best of both worlds. I got heaping portions of perfectly prepared General Tso's chicken and Shrimp in a citrus-y Schecuan sauce. Both dishes had just a hint of spice and fire. My personal preference would be a little more heat, but it suited my more mild-mannered hubby just fine. The shrimp was just a tad bit chewy, but the delicious sauce more than compensated. The citrus flavor was a nice compliment to the heavier flavor of General Tso's chicken. No fried greasy taste here, just a nice crisp tempura with a rich sauce that has hints of ginger and garlic. The chefs clearly understand subtle flavors and balance. Even the fried dishes have a well-developed flavor of something other than fryer oil (one of my chief complaints at other restaurants). Vegetables are nicely incorporated into the dishes rather than thrown in as an afterthought. The chicken is alway high-quality white meat chunks, as opposed to the suspect meat used by other restaurants. I was also impressed with the presentation, which reminded me more of a nicer Thai restaurant than a strip-mall Chinese place. I'd be remiss if I didn't praise the service as well. The wait staff is polite to a fault and anticipates needs before we had to ask. My biggest complaint is that the menu sticks too closely to American favorites. The chefs are clearly talented and have more to offer than the basics. If you're craving the basics, though, go where they do the basics the best. read more

So I'm here for you all with a PSA: The sushi at Eastern Dragon, unlike some Yelpers here argue, isn't anything special. If you like California rolls and shrimp tempura rolls and that weirdo soy paper wrap, maybe you'll like this place. But if you yearn for luscious tuna sashimi, pine for freshly grated wasabi root, or crave real miso soup, move along, samurai. Beyond the flat-tasting fish and the lack of sushi selections, there are a few strange details about this place. *The staff seems to have worked out a bizarre means of communicating orders via intercom. At various moments throughout your meal, the inconspicuous adult contemporary music will be interrupted by the harsh, crackling din of garbled restaurant code. What is this? The Hunt for Red October? *The employees' children ricochet around the restaurant, squealing and squeaking. Sometimes they'll be sitting at the sushi bar furiously scribbling in a coloring book, which is lovely if you enjoy the smell of crayons with your yellowtail nigiri. *Eastern Dragon has one poor sushi chef making all the sushi for the restaurant. Now, granted, because most people are ordering General Tso's Chicken here, he's not burdened with tickets. However, I've been to the restaurant on two instances when the sushi chef had a cold and continued to make rolls, sniffles and all. Find a backup for this guy, please! *Said overworked sushi chef is good at his job, but possesses a limited knowledge of the cuisine he prepares. On one occasion I ordered sweet (raw) shrimp; he served me cooked shrimp. On another, I asked him if they have any quail eggs for the ikura and he shrugged his shoulders. The one time I asked for uni? He giggled. Look, I understand this is a Japanese-Chinese mutant-restaurant IN A STRIP MALL IN QUAKERTOWN. This isn't New York City. This isn't Philly. But you know what? Hachi, a new Japanese fusion restaurant 15 minutes south, has sweet shrimp. They've managed to magically procure quail eggs and uni. Their fish has flavor! Flavor! If I never ate at another Sushi bar the rest of my life, I will die a happy man! Here is another jewel in the Fairmont Shopping Center. Service is typically very good and the food is typically excellent. Only on rare occasion do I not ordered sushi or sashimi; I have never been disappointed. Another forty five minutes goes by, and I call back. The person I spoke to said they had tried to call because they don't deliver to Perkasie, but got voicemail. I have no missed calls. When I explained that I had called already and been told my order was on its way, and that I had no missed calls, I got the same answer - they don't deliver to Perkasie. I had the wonton soup (which is all I ever order from chinese places). I love love love wonton soup. And this place was actually disappointing. The wontons were mushy and falling apart. Normally, Ive seen chinese places store the steamed wontons in a steam table to keep warm and then add them to the broth per order (to prevent mushyness). The broth was also watery. I added soy sauce to make it saltier. Ive never had to do that before. I just figure if something as simple as wonton soup wasnt good then the rest of the food is probably lacking as well. This Chinese/ Japanese hybrid restaurant is good. The food is consistent and its a good place to get Chinese food and sushi. They also have brown rice for the health conscious. I usually get the lunch sushi special (spicy rolls, and salmon rolls). Good taste and tasty salads too (kane salad, Ginger dressed salads). It was an ok meal. First time visiting was for lunch. My friend and I both got a bento box and shared the tuna tataki (sp). That was like a big spicy tuna meatball, and it was very tasty! We always get delivery, Drivers always friendly. Food is a hit and a miss. Sushi is very good and reasonably priced. I will only order certain dishes that they cook very well. I arrived to pick up my order I placed online and their procedure I definitely lacking . You wait outside in a long line before you can enter to pick up your order. The person at the front charged me for my order and disappeared for over 10 minutes . The customers waiting behind me were very frustrated at how long it was taking. The woman answering the phone at the counter did not acknowledge anyone which I find completely rude. It makes me so sad to write this. ED used to be my favorite Chinese/Japanese Restaurant! I have been going for years and always raved to my friends about it. This past year or so, we have noticed the quality of some of our favorites declining. The Singapore Mai Fun used to be packed with good veggies and seafood, several pieces of shrimp, noodles were moist and tasty, little peppers were added. Now, the noodles are dry, flavorless and the shrimp is 2 if your fortunate. I even had a piece of yellow squash in mine this time, which was different, along with green pepper; no little spicy peppers as before. It's like anything in the kitchen is being thrown in for bulk. The last time I got it, I chocked it up to COVID and availability of items, but it seems like more things are bad. I always went here for egg drop soup, the flavor was rich and had some chopped green onion. Today, it was hot water with egg mixed in, now the worst I've ever had. I've noticed from other reviews that ownership appears to have changed, and it looks like many of us are experiencing the same issues with quality, flavor, botched orders, and service. They are ok with staples (like take out food) but don't get too fancy here...you will be extremely disappointed. Word of advice, skip the dumplings. What a shame. My wife and I order food from here at least once a week for the last 4 years. Over the he past few months, the quality of food and service has declined significantly. I have spent a lot of time driving back having orders fixed and modified. This was our "go to" spot until last night. We orderd our usual friday night takeout, got home and started eating. I bit into something hard that was in my fried rice. I pulled it out and found it was a piece of metal. It looked like a piece of screen. I was absolutly livid so my wife calmly called and asked for the owner. My wife was very reserved, let her know what happened, and kindly asked for our next meal to be on the house. The owner flat out said no. I was so mad I wanted to drive in and preach to all the patrons in the restaurant what happened; but I didnt. The next afternoon, my wife drove there with the piece of metal and asked to talk to the owner. The owner pretty much said "what do you want me to do about this?" My wife said she wanted our next order to be free and the owner sternly said no again. One of the managers examined the piece of screen and when my wife asked for it back, he kept asking why and seemed worried and resilient. I can't believe the horrible customer service. We would have forgotten about this incident if they just acted like they cared. Especially for customers who have spent thousands of dollars there over the years. Safe to say we are done with them but I wanted to share my story. Thank god I didn't cut myself when chewing on it or this situation would be much worse for them. read more

I have gotten sushi from the Eastern Dragon many times, quite frequently due to it's convenience to my house which is 6 miles from the restaurant. Typically, quite great food, but this is not about the food. I usually place orders for pick up, however, I have had delivery service 3 times by them, in which I have always tipped over 30% each time. I attempted to place a large order today (over $70) but was cut short and told that they don't deliver to my address. As others have stated on here, inconsistency in customer service. I could drive the 10 minutes to get my food, but I would rather drive 30 minutes to Hachi in Chalfont after that. I'll try again another day. read more

Excellent food with plenty of variety. I'm vegetarian and they have a great number of dishes for me to choose from. Their sushi is also very good and they'll specialize stuff fo you if needed. Excellent servers every time my wife and I have been there. Their online ordering system is also super convenient and I actually recommend delivery or take-out because the portions are quite a bit bigger that way (you can get almost 2 meals out of most dishes) for the same price. This is our favorite Chinese/Japanese restaurant in our area, you can't find better service, quality and price for this type of food in the area. I tend to get sushi and my family usually orders Chinese dishes. A favorite for the kids is the sesame chicken. I go with the maki combo most of the time. The sesame chicken is deep fried with a light batter and covered in a sweet sauce with sesame seeds. The maki combo has a cucumber roll, California roll & tuna (all maki style). The proportions are large and the combo comes with soup and salad. The usual quick service, family atmosphere and well prepared food always end in a satisfying meal. This restaurant has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. We Ordered General Tso's Chicken and Aromatic Roast Duck. The duck was dry, chewy and all bone. The Chicken was over cooked and dry. When I called the restaurant to complain, the owner Jeff, insisted I bring it back, and argued with me over the phone that he cooked it right himself. Not willing to listen what I had to say. When I returned with it the next day, as we do not live close by, he instantly started yelling and arguing with me. Extremely unprofessional business owner, refused to compensate me in any way and not apologetic. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, due to extreme lack of respect for a paying customer. I'm with reviewer Ali F., I was skeptical at first. "Sushi? In Quakertown?". My words exactly and my answer too was a resounding "YES!" The restaurant is in an unassuming strip mall (where the old movie theater was a million years ago) that sits right off of West End Blvd aka Route 309. The inside isn't expansive but it's not tiny or cramped either, it is sincerely cozy, though the mirror on the one wall gives a total optical illusion of a much larger space and they should kiss their brilliant interior designer for that bit of genius. I was very surprised at the lack of hibachi as that gimmick seems to be a "must" for any remotely asian themed restaurant in the area. Don't get me wrong, I like chefs chucking food at me and juggling knives as much as the next gal but they're a dime a dozen in this area. So I was there to try the Sushi or more accurately Maki and had my reservations about any Japanese restaurant that would try to break into the steadfast meat and potatoes community that is Quakertown. To my absolute delieght the fish is fresh and delicious and their "standard rolls" while not breaking any new ground are exactly what "staple foods" should be, reliable and satisfying. I am absolutely addicted to their Under Control Roll and Montauk Roll and look forward to trying some of the other treats on their special roll menu. The seaweed salad is a definite win! Their chinese menu is standard but the food is fantastic and occasionally surprising (try a vegetable spring roll with an unexpected hint of ginger and cinnamon inside). My litmus test for Chinese Food is Pan-fried Dumplings and Crab Fried Wontons(Rangoon) and both are beyond delectable at Eastern Dragon. It is hard not to find something to please everyone, the portions are generousand the price is very reasonable, though maybe a bit more expensive compared to other restaurants in the immediate area. The only aspect holding me back from awarding 5 stars is the limited number of Japanese entrees other than fish based ones (Sushi, Sashimi, Chirashi and so on). I would love to see some Ton Katsu or even Japanese hot pots (other than tofu which I am looking forward to trying next). Though they advertise as serving Udon there is really no selection apart from whatever is in the "Noodle" section of the menu which carries typical Lo Mein and Mein Fun. Their Japanese Appetizers are limited as well, I would love to get some good Age Dashi close to home. So go for the food and the quiet ambiance, enjoy your meal, tell all of your friends about it, yelp your little heart out here and lets get this place noticed and patronized so it doesn't go the way of Thai Show (which was good but not even closed to on this level). read more

Boo! These people are the worst when it comes to customer service. The last three orders I've had delivered from ED have been wrong. Calling back - you get attitude and yes, the second delivery does arrive but not without additional cost, time and frustration. Fortunately for ED, and unfortunately for the rest of us die hard sushi lovers, they are the only gig in town. When you order speak clearly, ask them to read the order back, check the delivery when it arrives and pray another good soul opens a sushi restaurant so we can enjoy the sushi experience with owners who care about the care of their clients. read more
