Really easy airport! Seamless check in and nice staff! Bathrooms are clean, chairs are very cozy and they even have an outdoor patio with a fireplace by gate 1 & 2! Never seen something like this at an airport. Not many food options but the door has a restaurant, the Java House coffee shop (which has THE BEST CHAI) and a little snack shop. You can usually get through TSA within 8 minutes or less, I have TSA precheck and get through within 3 minutes! read more

I flew in and out of CID during my most recent visit to Iowa. This trip involved seeing my 97 year-old Dad in Ames, a side trip to Des Moines, and then over to Iowa City for my semiannual University of Iowa Chemical Engineering Alumni Board meeting. Compared to flying in and out of DSM, I found the amount of required driving to be pretty even. CID is an impressive small-medium airport, with modern features and nice natural light. I counted 13-14 gates, which seemed more than enough to handle existing air traffic and future expansion. I didn't notice any Southwest movement, but I did see American, Delta, United, Allegient, and Frontier business. Who's left? JetBlue? Sun Country? Alaska? I also appreciated the easy walking distance and navigation between Check-In, Security, Gates, Baggage Claim, and the Rental Car Parking Lot. This is the Airport that DSM is probably modelling as they work through their own expansion and modernization plans. TIP: Check out the gift shop for the Iowa Hawkeye Tchotchkes, with a few Caitlin Clark items thrown in. CID is definitely Back in Black. read more

American Airlines cancelled our flight BY EMAIL. While we were headed to the airport. After we had dropped off our dog an hour away. A simple text or phone call would have solved the problem. Flying at CID has almost always been an easy time in my experience. Parking is easy and you're never a ridiculously long walk away, security rarely has much of a line (often with Pre-Check I'm able to walk right up), and with the recently added new gates, there is a good amount of space without having to take much of a walk anywhere. The only downside, like with most smaller airports, is that the number of direct flights can feel limited and you often need to take a fairly early flight to get to your final destination when you want. I think CID has done a good job of having a nice variety of direct flights, though. read more

All the staff are so nice here compared to other airports! No one was aggressive or rude. TSA was really friendly and just gave gentle reminders about things like needing to have laptops out. I had forgotten my hand lotion in my pocket because we were rushing a bit to get through and the security guard that patted me down was very kind and understanding, which you really don't see at other airports. The airport is small, but it's homey and isn't traveled through much so it's so quick and easy to get through security and get to your gate. The bathrooms are well-stocked and very clean. There are lots of helpful signs around to guide people if it's their first time flying or if they need reminders! There are some food places available near the gates, and car rentals are conveniently placed near the exit/large lot of cars. Overall, I love this airport and would definitely travel through here again! :) read more

They don't have 24 hour maintenance onsite. We were just told our flight needs maintenance, before we can board and take off, and they won't even be here for an hour to begin. Pretty pathetic. Can't imagine many airports don't have maintenance onsite. read more

This quaint airport is well laid out, clean and organized. I appreciate the ease of getting from ticketing to security to the gate. Signs clearly direct you to where you're heading. They've definitely remodeled it since my childhood days and it looks incredible. The TSA agents are pleasant and eager to assist. They keep things moving which is always appreciated when traveling with kids. They have an escalator and elevator available to get you from lower level security, baggage claim and rental car area to upper level where gates are. There is a restaurant/bar on the upper level for food and beverages. There is also a coffee shop right after stepping off the escalator. Restrooms located just behind the coffee shop and several others throughout the gate area. They also have a few shops for grab and go items as well as essentials and forgotten goodies even gifts. My kids and I enjoyed the large windows throughout that allowed us to watch the planes come and go. Lovely hometown airport. read more

It's a small airport in Cedar Rapids. During my visit, all the restaurants closed early!! I was able to order chicken fingers and fries before one place closed at 530!! That's all they had. Smh. There was a small commissary that stayed open until the last flight out. read more

This is a good but not great airport. On a positive, they have enough carriers going to enough hubs that you can get pretty much anywhere. Parking is great and reasonably priced. My biggest issue there has been staffing levels - once it was one person trying to send two flights out within 30 minutes of one another. I was on the second and we were very late getting out ... I missed my connecting flight in Atlanta because of it. I also wish there were more eating options after we have gone through security. read more

I love this little airport. With TSA Pre-Check, it is incredibly easy to navigate and a breeze to go through security. The one thing I really love is that they have Java House iced coffee. It hits the spot every time. Now this is specific and weird, but I especially LOVE the ice cubes. They are super cute (bell shaped) and they give me a little bit of joy every time I see them. The good old eastern Iowa airport. I must've use this airport at least six or seven times. Let me tell you what this airport probably holds the record for moving through the TSA line. I mean you can show up 30 minutes before flight and I guarantee you you will not have a problem boarding your flight. I have never came to this airport and seen a long line. They move really fast and they are extremely nice. They have one restaurant, they have a few stores where you can buy magazines Gum water whatever you need. Everyone is really friendly, I have never had an issue here. Actually got to meet the rapper Waka Flocka Flame here. I also got to meet the rapper Ludacris here as well. He is a very small man. Waka Flocka Flame however is pretty tall. They were both extremely nice. Who would think he would see rappers in Cedar Rapids Iowa. Also be where you definitely want to use Uber versus a cab driver. You will save a lot more money use an Uber read more

Recently flew out of Cedar Rapids and had the worst experience with United Airlines. Our flight was cancelled the night before we were to leave. My wife immediately connected with them to get us on another flight. The rep on the phone told her, she rebooked us on American Airlines, which was only half true. My wife called back in because her flight reflected the update, but mine did not. The rep she got this time stated she could not assist, and that my wife shouldn't have been booked on American either. So, my wife requested to speak with a supervisor, who assured us at the end of the call we were all set to fly out. Both our apps reflected these updates, however, when we got to the booth, it was again not true. These reps at the counter went the extra mile, like all the way to the moon type of miles. They spent two hours and many calls to finally get my wife and I on a flight to Vegas. Most people would have sent us to the seating area and had us call in, especially with this taking two hours. I cannot express how much I appreciated them and really wish I had each of their names to report this to their management team. If you four ladies happen to read this, THANK YOU SO, SO MUCH! read more

An excellent little airport that makes travel easy from eastern Iowa. We got through security in less than five minutes, and spent our time waiting at the gate in the nice outdoor area. Good WiFi and very clean throughout the airport. We had a great experience! My only critique is that there isn't much for snacks/beverages/food, but that's typical of an airport this size. read more

I love airports and the bustle associated with being in one. I have a thing for packing, people watching and purchasing over priced beer. Truly. My only gripe with air travel is I literally get patted down nine times out of ten. I could be wearing a skin tight leotard and nothing else-- and still light up like a Christmas tree on their scanner. The Easter Iowa Airport is tiny. Security never takes time and the staff is super friendly. There are only a handful of gates so it's easy to navigate and you never have to walk far. Long term parking is reasonable and low hassle because you literally walk from it to the airport, not having to wait for a shuttle. With the addition of the Cedar Ridge Barrel Room, there's a sit down restaurant option-- offering Cedar Ridge's local wine and whiskey. My biggest issues with this airport is: -- Due to the size they only offer 14 direct flights: Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Phoenix/Mesa, Denver, Dallas/Ft Worth, Minneapolis, Chicago, Atlanta, Detroit, Charlotte, Orlando, Orlando/ Sanford, Tampa/ St Petersburg and Punta Gorda/ Ft Myers. -- Lack of charging stations. BUT they do have free WiFi. -- Food options. There are only two real options with one of those (Java House) located pre-security. It's a convenient option for your next connecting flight! My experience at this airport was not a very positive one. The staff is not very helpful. All they are good at doing is pointing with their fingers the direction you to need go in or writing down a phone number of a helpline but offer little personal assistance of their own. This airport is very amateur in its behavior towards passengers. Eastern Iowa airprt is full of itself and self important. No! They haven't arrived. This is not the airport you want to get stranded in, even for a brief period. No food to be had, unless you're beyond the boarding gate. A security staff and check point that makes you feel like a criminal and an alien in your own country. Gestapo police that enforce mask wearing even when talking on your cell phone 25 feet away from others. I was so happy when I landed at O'Hare ORD Chicago, that's a real airport read more

American airlines has awful customer service and employees. I'm an advantage member though them and have never been treated so badly by an airline. We arrived at the airport at 5:30 well before our 7 am flight and due to short staffing we did not get on our plane. At 6:15 after waiting 45 minutes to get checked in as they were only helping kiosk and priority people they told us we couldn't check our bags and were out of luck too bad even though we were there well before hand and it was the staff that couldn't get everyone through in a timely manner. There were 5 other families this happened to behind us. This cost us a day of vacation and $800 we're missing out on at the resort due to American Airlines staffing being slow. This is very upsetting being an advantage member I've never been treated this way. I'm pregnant and this has caused us so much stress for what should have been a great milestone anniversary trip. read more

Great little airport with easy access on and off the interstate. Has everything you need and nothing you don't. Rental car counter is right next to the two baggage carousels. Rental cars themselves are right outside the exit door. You can literally pay for your car and be on the interstate in 5 minutes. read more
