This place is located at Spring Lake Beach. I looked at the previous reviews and the negative reviews mainly have to do with online ordering. I just went to rent a surfboard. It costs $20/hour or $60/day. They do not have a huge selection but based on the type of waves it doesn't make much of a difference. I thought the workers were very helpful. I rented one and then after an hour my daughter wanted a different board and they let me change it no problem. They do give you wax for the board also. I had no issues with them. You can also buy boogie boards. I don't know how much they cost but I saw some kids buy one while I was there. read more

Tm refuse to take any ownership of a brand new damaged board and the owner is a piece of work. Clearly the place is not good at online. Waited mo ths for delivery for something that was beat up. Beware ! There online shop is a scam. They sell boards online that they do not actually have in the shop and are up two months wait for the board to be shipped to the shop before you can get it . You don't find this out until after you have purchased it. read more

I was sexually harassed by the owner. He ran up behind me unguarded, I heard him say "excuse me" at the same time he put his arm around my waist then his hand went downward brushing my upper butt. I felt his fingers lingering, GROSS! Normal people wait a few seconds for the other to move out of the way. If he was really in a rush, he could have pushed my back or shoulders. He is extremely rude too. Another customer asked how much one of the skateboards was and he replied, if you have to ask, it means you can't afford it. What kind of business handles questions like that? Right after it happened I looked at his back (still processing) muttered, what the fk. I know he heard me because he was just a few steps away from me. He wasn't in a rush to go anywhere. Just tood around there. How pathetic. He needs to stop being a creep around girls. WHAAAAAATT! I'm the first one that's gets to review Eastern Lines? That's pretty RAD! Long before 'the Situation's' fade or Snooki's "Poof," Eastern Lines has been a piece of shore lore as Jersey as Lucy the Elephant. Some in the Jersey surf culture might pan this place as the "touristy" surf shop or the "mainstream" one but that's usually just left over punk ethos that gets stale when you get older. I am pretty close to considering myself a Los Angelino now, and when in Jersey I usually go to a surf shop closer to my break which is in Deal, but Eastern Lines will always have a special place in my memory vaults. For Godsakes, it is where I bought my first boogie board and first my surfboard. I got a good deal on a retro Ashton that is literally as old as I am in excellent condition. (Its not anymore, the board you learn on never is.) The lead singer of Barry and the Penetrators, Barry works here and stays close to both to New Jersey's surf culture and "rock-reggae" scene which has grown by leaps and bounds since I have flipped coasts. The store itself does a lot to foster the musical revolution that started to grow when Bradley left this earth way too soon. The shops sells the CDs and promotes the shows of many of the local acts that comprise the music scene that is conjoined at the hip with Jersey's oft over looked surf culture. (These reggae shows are WAY more fun than that a night out at "Headliners" anyway.) It's staff is helpful and knowledgeable. This place rings true with good vibrations. Two floors. If I'm in town I will still go once in a while (But only in September though.) I refuse to get ticketed by Belmar township because it is impossible to find legal parking in the summer and I REFUSE to pay beach badge fees. ( Should be against the law. ) I do stop in when ever I go to the Belmar ProAm which is a really incredible event. Incredible off season discounts on clothes. The water is 70 degrees warm. The tourists and fist pumpers are not around. The leaves are changing color. The weather is perfect ( not too not not too cold ) They have stopped charging a beach access fee and the music is great. FORGET SUMMER, THERE IS NO TIME LIKE THE FALL AT THE JERSEY SHORE. Now after Sandy I saw the clean up effort on and the internet. Fans of the surf shop are lending a helping hand. If I'm in town for Christmas I would love to come and help out. This place has a lot of heart, a lot pride, and a loyal fanbase and represents all the BEST the Jersey Shore any way you slice it! When I paddle out to Dog Beach, my new favorite surf break on the West Coast, I look at my leach and the fin of my board on which the EASTERN LINES logo is permanently emblazoned and it reminds me of my fondest Jersey memories ! The owner of Eastern Lines (Don) is a crazy person. He shipped me the worst wrapped surfboard I've ever seen so of course it had damage. I worked with him for 6 weeks to document the damage, send him photos, respond to emails, etc. Then - he asks me to properly wrap, box, and drive the surfboard to UPS for him. I called UPS to ask them to pick it up and he never even filed a claim. I worked with him for 6 weeks and then HIS LAWYER sent me an email threatening a lawsuit if we don't properly pack up the board (like he didn't do) and drive it to UPS ourselves. "Crazy Mike" helped us when arrived. Discussed a few options, looked at a few boards, found the ideal option in less than ten minutes. I was looking forward to renting a SUP board from this shop since it was conveniently close to where I would be staying the night. I called ahead to ask how much the rental would be and they said 25 for 1.5 hrs. I was super excited to paddle the Atlantic for the first time (I'm from the west coast). I geared up with the bare essentials and arrived at the store only to find out I needed a CC as well. No one told me over the phone! The chick at the counter could not care less when I asked if she could make an exception so I wouldn't have to walk back to my place. Finally after coming back and renting the thing, when I returned it, it was like they wanted me to leave. No thank you, no "come back again" with a fake smile, nada. Save your money and go somewhere where they at least be pretend to appreciating your business. read more

I have always had good luck at Eastern Lines. The people are always friendly and understanding. We went to buy my son his first board there and they gave us great advice about purchasing a softie. They were upfront about telling us they did not have what he wanted in stock and the way those particular boards are ordered, they could not guarantee they would have the color my son wanted. I appreciated the honesty and advice. While they lost this sale, they gained a loyal customer. This customer will buy his and his son's next surfboards from them. Plus, all the accessories will be purchase from them. Their sponsorship of the Belmar Pro is awesome. Getting a top flight surf contest like that in New Jersey gives me even more reason to shop with them. read more

The store owner's behavior and poor choice of words are unacceptable professionally and most definitely should NOT be modeled in front any child (do NOT take kids to this store, do NOT put this jerk on speaker phone in front of your children when calling to ask a simple question, his behavior and choice of words are completely unacceptable within a professional environment)... Eastern Lines Surf Shop clearly does not care what you're asking about for your kids and they are NOT genuinely interested in helping a customer for the right reasons; I had an incredibly insincere and regrettable buying experience at Eastern Lines Surf Shop. The store owner is rude beyond the point of being disrespectful; he has no value for potential customers and he makes the shopping experience painfully difficult for parents who are trying to make wise purchases for their children. Their store prices are higher than most other stores comparatively. If I could I would give Eastern Lines Surf Shop zero stars. I ordered fins for my boyfriend from them because they were the only people who stocked the right size fins for his new board. Eastern Lines false advertised-saying they had the product I wanted stocked when they really didn't. I ordered the purple fins and they shipped me the Futures orange ones. On top of sending me the wrong product, I paid for three day air, and they sent me a confirmation email saying it would be shipped overnight. My package didn't come for 2.5 weeks. I tried calling them multiple times and the number they present doesn't work. I finally got their number and they said there was a mix up and they'd ship it out asap. When I FINALLY recieved the package, there definitely was a mix up, getting the wrong product, finding out on the package that they shipped the cheapest shipping method they could, and the date they shipped it was way later then they said they would on the phone. I don't even want to bother sending the wrong fins back because I don't want to have to deal with them again. STAY AWAY FROM ORDERING ONLINE!! Really bad experience & super disappointing for my boyfriends birthday present who was drooling over the purple fins...so thanks Eastern Lines. read more
