I love being able to see and try items in person. They cut the jade themselves and do everything in house. What i love most is how they even help you resize the bangle if the bangle is thick enough to be resized. And if they dont have your size, it can be customized. I am in love with my Jade bangle that Jessie and Churk helped me and my husband pick out! I have been searching for a raw, untreated Grade A jade bangle for years and found Churk's online website. I'm so glad I went into the store to see their shop personally and to go through the selection. Jessie and Churk are experts in their field. Jessie sized me in 2 seconds and slipped on my bangle for me with such ease and educated me on how to do it myself (I do not intend to have to do this often!!) The sizing is perfect, it is not too big or small. She was able to present me so many options based on my size. Churk showed me some bangles that were cut from the same stone, it was beautiful! You can tell he has such a passion for his art, he called his bangles his "sons", it's so endearing to have a work of his art. I saw raw slabs of jade, it felt so nice purchasing from the artisan himself and not just a wholesaler. Finding Eastern Star Jade was the most fruitful part of our week long trip to LA. We were just entertaining the idea of finding a youthful jade bangle for my Wife as some of the heirloom jade bangle we got were expensive and just not the right style for her. She did some research and so happy with finding this store. I want to say, first concern for us with buying jade is trusting it is real jade and therefore value. We are from China and visited many stores in China from recent visits but just can't trust their claims. Fake jade is just too well done these days and even if real, how can you truly determine it's value? Also considering how brittle jade bangle is and my clumsy wife, we wanted a reasonable bangle for daily wear. In comes Mr. Churk and his family run store. All I can say it was like buying factory direct. Not only does Mr. Churk source his own raw stones, but does the carving himself. So you know it is real jade stone and cheapest price possible. That is why we ended up 10 pieces. 9 pendants for family and 1 lovely bangle that my wife have not taken off since. Just look at the color in the pics I provided. Very reasonable prices!! I went here on the recommendation of some online forums. This place doesn't disappoint. Eastern Star Jade offers Grade A jadeite at different price points; this place is better than any Mason Kay jeweler which overprices jade. It's important to buy grade A jade as treated jade (B or B-C grade) is more fragile and deteriorates over time. Grade A jadeite is almost always pricy, but over here you can easily buy anything at any budget. There are so many bangles to be bought, which are personally carved by the owner, Churk. He even has bangles that aren't on his website and he can custom carve bangles or any piece of jewelry you'd like! It is recommended that you make an appointment before coming in as only 3 customers are allowed in the store at a time. However, my husband and I came in right when they opened without any issues. Next time we come I'm definitely going to buy a bangle here, especially now that I know my size thanks to his wife who helped measure my hand. This review is from a physical visit to the store. This store offers jade at an affordable price for the quality (i.e., color, translucency, smoothness, etc.). The owners are very patient, hospitable, seem like honest people, and are willing to educate you on jade if you're interested. Authenticity: I haven't gotten any pieces I've purchased from them tested at the GIA. However, they pass a quick loupe inspection, blacklight test, specific gravity test, and the price vs. quality appears to be correct for type A jade. I'm confident that they carry type A (e.g., all-natural, untreated) jade. I can't comment on the origin of the jade, but the owners claim that it's Burmese jade. Customer Service: 10/10 - I needed a few beads taken out from a custom bracelet they made for me, and they took it out without charging any extra fees. Additionally, I needed some extra red string for a necklace, and they provided me one, again without a fee. They also helped me identify my wrist and ring sizes. I also came in very late, and they stayed overtime to assist me. Custom Work: 10/10 - They do very good custom work. I requested a beads bracelet with a zodiac animal, and they were able to complete it in a fast time frame (~1 week). They were careful to send me pictures of the piece as it progressed, in case I had any questions or objections, which they resolved promptly. The craftsmanship is top-notch, and I think Churk did a wonderful job at designing the piece. I will be coming back to them for custom work. Selection: 9.5/10 - They have a wide selection of colors, translucency, and shapes. Mostly jadeite jade. They have earrings, rings, bangles, pendants, and brooches. They also have gold and silver settings. Most of their selection (as of this review) are shades of green, but there are some lavender pieces as well. Just ask them for their lavender pieces. A good chunk of their pieces are opaque but there are some beautiful translucent/semi-translucent pieces. Anything that doesn't catch your eye, you can request custom work. Price: 9.5/10 - Very wide range of prices; come in with a budget so that they can help identify which pieces fall within your range. The price of jade depends on the color, deepness of color, translucency, and size. They have pieces for any price range, so just let them know. read more

I had such a wonderful experience here. Jessie and Churk are such kind people with a true talent, you can see the love and passion that goes into their work in every piece. Everything they have is carved by them and customizable (amazing!!). I had been to so many jewelry shops but none like this. They helped me pick out a jade bangle to replace my broken one. It was truly a great experience getting to look through the various bangles they have carved and having them help me find one that would work the best. The one I chose was a bit wider than I'd have liked but Jessie told me no worries, they can custom carve it to exactly how I wanted. And that's what we did! My bangle went from 13mm to 9mm and the final result was fantastic. Jessie sent me photos of the process to make it smaller and updated me every step of the way to ensure I was getting exactly as I wished. I've unsuccessfully scoured NYC's Chinatown and Diamond District for retailers who are knowledgeable about fine jade and who carry a large selection of high quality pieces. Most jewelers don't know much about the stone, and those who carry pieces only have a few mixed in with their gold and diamond inventory. So I was totally bowled over to discover this surprising treasure of a store, (in a strip mall no less), clear across the country in Orange, CA when I was on vacation! I was searching for a green jade buddha pendant for my son as he heads off to college, since the combo of jade and buddha are supposed to offer the double benefits of protection and success. Churk and Jessie, the husband and wife proprietors of Eastern Star Jade, had such an array of choices, I was beyond thrilled. They carry high end jade jewelry, as well as affordable pieces, jade statues and carvings for the home. And boy, do they know their jade! Churk is the creative half of the duo, the artist who not only designs, but carves their pieces from slabs of jadeite. Jessie is the business half, stylist, and explainer of the lore behind this revered stone. She showed me how to measure my hand to determine the size jade bangle I would take, and she demonstrated how to get it on and off. As we were ogling the pieces in the showcase, Churk also showed us some of the custom pieces he was working on, including some with very intricate carvings of animals and goddesses. They were beyond patient and helpful in imparting their knowledge. I ended up finding a gorgeous buddha for my son, but it had no hole or bale to accommodate a chain. No problem. Jessie had Churk make a gold backing and bale for the pendant so we could take it back to NJ with us the next day. She even came in on their day off so we could pick the finished piece. In addition to the buddha pendant, I bought a gorgeous jade donut pendant for my daughter and a jade band ring that fit my finger perfectly (not easy to find readily made). I also selected a piece of unfinished jade to have a donut pendant made for me... when my bank account recovers from my initial purchases. Having seen the store/ workshop and having dealt with Jessie & Churk, I will definitely be ordering again from Eastern Star. I like that they make the item right there, and also that they only deal in Type A jade that hasn't been color treated or had polymers added to give it the "water" that's so sought after in imperial jade.
