I was in a car accident at the Miramar Way gate, and rushed to the hospital. My car was towed by Eastgate towing. My brother and buddies from base went to get my belongings out of my car, but Eastgate had ransacked everything they could in my car. I had a mid-engine, sports car, with storage under the front hood, and a locked trunk. It was a two-seater, with small storage spaces behind the two seats. Fortunately, with the trunk locked, and Eastgate not able to find my keys, that is the only area that was not ransaked by them. I had S.C.U.B.A. gear under the front hood, as well as wet-suits behind the seats. The seat back tops, touched the back wall, so it was impossible for anything to have "just fallen out", the same goes for the front area under the hood. Eastgate's story was that somehow they didn't take anything, that either things fell out, or other Marines stole these items. Both when my brother and Marine buddies went, and when I went a week later, they could NOT have been more rude, unhelpful and lacked any basic courtesy, to the point that the man we were dealing with was yelling from an upstairs room, and didn't have the decency to come to the downstairs room where the customer counter was. It was difficult enough that I broke my neck, and had a "Halo" bolted into my skull, but worse then to find out that the tow company that was allowed on base turned out to be dishonest, thieves and lacked any decency. They also had exorbitant, daily storage fees, higher than other companies we checked with in the area. I wish they were blacklisted from ever towing on base again. Marines and sailors in the San Diego area, be WARNED, they are Dishonest and Thieves! Find a DIFFERENT tow company. Eastgate might as well be named Wastegate, in my opinion. I see some others, like Victor K., and Dakota H., who both posted here, also had extremely horrible experiences with Eastgate. Nothing was working to fix my tire and all the other tow companies in the Mira Mesa area either charge way too much or take forever to get to you. They gave me a fairly reasonable price and got to me within 20 minutes of calling which was very helpful. Would recommend 10/10 times. read more

Towing business is one of the ugliest businesses around , just like automotive repair and sales , it has its own drawbacks , bottom line, it is a tough business to be in and can't make everyone happy... I have been on Miramar for over 15 years , I had my own automotive repair shop and I had to deal with a lot of towing companies but East Gate towing is one of the most respected companies that I have dealt with. East gate towing has been in business for over 25 years that I know of , this business was found by two Brothers Mike and Sam , they are very professional and generous to deal with. Mike and Sam make sure they higher good experienced drivers and also screen them to make sure they come from a good background , from what I know it is very important for towing company's to have good drivers, the success of a good towing company is it's drivers and its management. I have used them plenty of time and they have given me an excellent service and prices as Well , the drivers and very professional an experienced, I just recently went out of gas and I called Mike and he send a driver to help , the driver was there in less then 10 mins of by first call , I was back at my shop in less then 20 mins and it cost me a fraction of what I thought it would be . I highly recommend them and if you have any issues with the drivers ? I would definitely make a phone call and talk to the owners , they are professional and will be of grate help if they can... On Thursday, April 30th at 10:15 a.m. I was driving back from a work meeting on the 805 north when traffic came to a dead stop just south of Governor Drive. An open-bed tractor trailer loaded with dirt/gravel/junk had burst a giant tire, and the road was littered with large tire pieces and debris. An Eastgate tow truck pulled up and the driver flashed his lights, stepped out on the freeway and set to work clearing debris from the middle lanes. Obviously his tow truck wasn't going to tow the giant tractor trailer, but he was just being a good Samaritan helping to clear the road. Just wanted to say thanks to Eastgate for stepping up and keeping San Diego's roads moving smoothly. A lot of other folks would have just driven by. This tow truck driver's actions probably saved lives. read more

I have upgraded my rating from 1 to 3 stars. It's not that I'm happy with what occurred, but I did receive a refund from a gentleman at Eastgate, who was not unreasonable to deal with. However, I had hoped that they would have worked with my insurance company and reimbursed my $300 deductible. It's their position that they did not cause the damage. It's my position that they probably did, as it's a pretty new car. Regardless, there was some resolution and I will give them credit for working with me on this issue. My original comments follow. Eastgate Towing committed what I believe to be an illegal tow. I was parked in an open space in my condo complex. One of the residents, who apparently didn't understand that the space was open, called Eastgate, who towed my nearly new Audi TT. It appears that the tow violated a number of different statutes. For example, there was no sign at the entrance to the complex, as required by 22658(a)(1) CVC. There was no notice of violation and 96 hours had not elapsed as required by 22658(a)(2) CVC. Furthermore, as mentioned, this was an open space and I had the right to park there, which I can evidence in writing. Finally, Eastgate Towing was negligent in the transportation, care and handling of my vehicle. The only approved method of towing an Audi all wheel drive vehicle is by flatbed tow truck. However, Eastgate Towing used a dolly, which caused hundreds of dollars of damage to my car's undercarriage, as evidenced by photos in my possession as well as a written inspection by an authorized Audi dealer. When I requested a copy of the tow authorization, Eastgate Towing refused to provide me with a copy of the document. It's my understanding that they are required to do so, although they may be able to redact some of that information. Eastgate Towing tried to shift blame to the "gentleman" who improperly requested that my vehicle be towed, but it's my understanding that, as a professional towing business, they are required to understand and comply with California laws. All of this has cost me $400 for the tow, plus transportation costs, plus time off from work, not to mention the damage to my vehicle. They should have had the common sense to refuse the tow, but they chose to tow despite the fact that it appears to be an illegal tow. It is my intention to file a Small Claims Court action against Eastgate Towing in an effort to receive fair compensation for what I believe to be their improper, illegal, and negligent actions. Car was towed Saturday - completely my fault and that's not what the 1 star review is for. On Sunday morning i called and spoke with someone about getting the car back. The employee told me that the paperwork was in the office and would be locked up until the office opened Monday morning at 8am. When i picked up the car this morning (Monday) is cost $380. Apparently I have had the worst luck with my car moving to San Diego bc of all the construction. 5 flat tires in less than a year which has left me stranded all over a city in new too. I just ran over a construction piece of metal and my tire popped while driving. I was incredibly frustrated since every tow truck that has helped Me previously has taken at least 2 hours to come "rescue" me and my car. Also, majority of time they aren't very friendly and are there to just grab my car but who can blame them. I don't expect a best friend out of the experience. Today was DIFFERENT. Carlos from eastgate showed up and was SO kind and he was prompt. I told him what happened and he gave me advice and showed me how to be safe if ever stranded again. He told me to always stay on the phone with the driver for my safety especially if late at night. He went ABOVE and beyond and spent the time educating me about road side safety and keeping my car in a safe zone until I get help. This means a lot since I'm a female and need to be cautious bc you never know. He also educated me on my car battery and how to preserve it :) He has been driving with them for 17 years and is so loyal and gave me their cards to have them dispatched to help me in future. One of my junior sailors vehicle was towed from MCAS Miramar for expired registration (which we completely understand was this sailors responsibility). The owner of the tow company "Mike" lied to the Miramar Marine DOD police officers saying we didn't have any documentation for the updated registration. When I spoke to the officer on the phone while standing in the tow office he said that Mike said something completely different on the phone. Long story short I had to come out of character and call this man on his BS and get my blood pressure raised for my junior sailor. The most corrupt business I have ever had to do business with. There were some other lies this man told to me about price but my blood pressure is still trying to come down so I need to pray. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS CORRUPT SHADY PLACE. read more

These guys are shady! My daughter was in a fender-bender on Miramar and an Eastgate truck happened to be across the road. The driver swings around and begins hooking up her car for a tow. The driver starts TELLING my daughter (she's a High School student, was obviously frazzled and not experienced in auto accident procedures) that he's taking her car to his yard, she protests and asks that he wait 5 minutes for her Dad to arrive (or at least call her Dad), but the driver DECIDES what's going to happen. Later at the tow yard, after a fun convo with the insurance company, a repair facility is set up, rental car is reserved, etc. The driver then gives his advice about using dealership X rather than the independent shop our insurance company contracts with. OK, friendly advice... I say something like 'I'll consider it and call my insurance company back, we'll see, DON'T DO ANYTHING, lemme' see.' The driver is really pushing hard to be "helpful" by taking the car where ever I want it to go (translation - pad the bill). Again, I'm clear in saying "WAIT FOR AUTHORIZATION" and don't tell him to 'help' me until I speak with my insurance company. I contact the insurance company and they say 'no' on dealership X, so we decide to stick to the original plan. The insurance company will dispatch a tow service to move the car, just leave things as they are, talk tomorrow, good evening, etc. Fast-forward to the next day and -POOF!- the car has appeared at dealership X. The "helpful" driver proactively (without calling me or my daughter, nor our insurance company) DECIDED to move the car on his own. Zero authorization. My insurance company goes looking for the car to schedule a move to their contracted facility and, again, just trying to be "helpful," the driver tells them that I wanted it brought to dealership X and I authorized everything. In my experience, there are towing companies that pull your bacon out of the fire and are the unsung heroes of the highways... and then there are the dirtbag bottom feeders. It had been taken by Easgate Towing, who DIDN'T HAVE A CONTRACT WITH OUR BUILDING, with a visible parking permit. Our management didn't even know who these guy's were. They just came in and started towing cars. Why? A resident called this company saying that they couldn't find parking and that Comic-Con people were parking in the stalls. Their solution? Tow people without a contract and without properly checking for permits. After calling the police and finding out who towed the car and following two MORE calls they agreed to bring the car back to me after he initially had the genius solution to pick me up and drive me 30min north to come and get it. read more

Based on the reviews, it looks like you either love 'em or hate 'em. I find myself in the latter camp, unfortunately. The tow driver was friendly and showed up on time, however that was about all that went right. He damaged my vehicle and then proceeded to deny it. WARNING - THIS IS LONG!! I definitely did not get any warm and fuzzy feelings from these guys. It was a Friday afternoon at about 11am. My company has several buildings in the same general vicinity and I had a meeting I needed to get to in another building so I went out to my car to drive over. As I turned the key to start the car, all seemed to be groovy. As soon as I took my hand off the key though, the car died. Try again, same thing happens. My first thought is the battery. Yeah, whatever...I admit I have no knowledge of cars, but Honda told me 2 years ago that I needed a new battery and since I wasn't having any problems at that time I decided not to listen to them. I think that's why it was the first thing that popped into my head. Luckily, I have triple A (Auto Club). I called up the toll free number and was connected to these guys. I mentioned that I thought it was the battery, so the dispatcher sent out the battery guy. He was very nice and professional when he got there. Tried the car and got the same problem. Right away he says he can switch out the battery for ~$100.00. OK, that seems reasonable. He's with AAA, so he must know what he is doing, right? So, battery swapped out....go to start the car and the same thing happens. No go. Try to start the car again, this time revving the gas at high RPM's for a good 5 minutes. Yikes! That sounds painful! Be nice to my CRV!! Whaddya know, the car stays on!! Yipee, it was the battery! Ok, here's my charge card, thanks very much, see you later I hop in my car and try to start it. Again, no go. As soon as I take my hand off the key or my foot off the gas, it stalls. UGH!! At least the AAA guy hasnt left! Would I like it towed? he asks. Uh, yes! So, now since this guy is just the battery guy I need to wait for the tow guy. Come to find out though, AAA only gives me 8 free miles of towing. Unfortunately, the mechanic I use is further than that. The battery guy recommends a place to go in Mira Mesa. Auto Clinic he says is great, cheap and good reliable work. Again...no warm fuzzy feelings going on. The battery guy just seems to be pushing this mechanic on me, and I have no idea who they are or what kind of work they do. But I really dont want to have to pay for towing, so I agree. He calls the dispatcher again to get a tow truck out. In the mean time, I am able to search the internet for reviews on Auto Clinic. Not good! Since I have never used them myself, I can't comment on the quality of their work or their prices, but the reviews were enough to make me willing to pay to have it towed the extra miles to someone I trusted. When the Tow guy finally gets there, he too is nice & professional. Checks the car and immediately says he knows what the problem is. He starts the car and keeps the gas revved. Slows down the rpms enough to get it in reverse and back out of the parking spot. According to him, all I have to do is keep my foot on the gas, and one on the break, and I'll be able to drive it to the mechanic of my choice. SERIOUSLY!?! Every time he slows down at all it threatens to stall! And he wants me to drive on the freeway like this??? In rush hour traffic??? No way. TOW IT PLEASE! Ok, he says...no problem. Well, after thinking for a bit, I realize...yes, there is a problem! I was given (and charged) for a new battery when that wasnt the issue! After talking to the battery guy he agrees to come back out and remove the new battery and put the old battery in so that I can have the mechanics determine what the actual problem is. He sounds frustrated and annoyed that he has to come back out, but hey...he never even did any diagnostics to see if that was the actual problem! ok, this is really a long review, so I'll wrap it up. Car was towed, I was OVER charged for the milage (remember, I get 8 miles free...they said they towed it 19 miles but according to mapquest and google maps the mechanic was only 13 miles from where we were). They were suppose to refund me the $100 for the new battery that they installed unnecessarily & then removed. It took a phone call reminder. Overall, just a really poor experience. I definitely would not recommend them to anyone. read more

Busy day or just poor management? My car was not starting and it was not the battery, so I called my road side assistance via American Express and they sent out Eastgate Towing. The dispatcher called me and told me they would have someone out in 45 minutes. No problem, I said, but I won't be at the car so I will have to leave the keys under that mat. And that is what I did. An hour and 45 minutes later, I get a call from the drive asking me where the car is located? An hour and 45 minutes later with no call to say they were running late! This sucked for me because I wanted to get it to the shop in time so they could fix it within the day. Not going to happen now. Second problem. I get a call from the mechanic the next morning asking me for the key to the car. "I don't have them!" The tow truck drive should have left them with you. To no avail, we can find the keys. Give the drive a call and ask where the keys are....nowhere to be found. He has no idea and doesn't recall if he left under the mat or with the cash register. How about neither. Both are just sloppy mistakes. 1. Call your customer to let them know you are being late or provide the right estimate. 2. Don't lose the keys to the car. read more

I was cruising down Miramar Road through La Jolla Village Drive and one of their drivers was flying down the road at over 60mph tailgating and changing lanes dangerously. It is scary enough when a regular car drives recklessly, but when a huge tow truck does it, it is downright dangerous. Since driving this way on regular streets doesn't get you anywhere, I caught up to the driver at a light and saw that he was on a cell phone to boot. This is a fireable offense and if Eastgate's drivers keep driving like this, someone is going to get seriously injured or killed. This happened on Monday June 30th at 3pm. I contracted with Eastgate to arrive at my house at 7:00 am this morning - I actually had a face to face meeting with the driver yesterday afternoon at 4:40. The last thing we did, after agreeing on the pick up time this morning, was shake hands, and he told me he would see me at 7:00 am today. It is now 7:50 am - No driver, no truck!! I called their dispatch at 7:25 am, and the dispatch said he would find out what was going on and call back. He did not call back - I had to call Eastgate again. The same dispatcher, who showed no apathy or caring whatsoever, agreed to send a new driver over. So they will be here between one hour to one hour fifteen minutes late. If you want to wait around, if you love to have your day's schedule screw up, and you want personal abuse, Eastgate Towing is the company for you!!! read more

Misdiagnosed. My car didn't want to lock this morning so I tried getting back inside to start it and it did not work so I called AMEX roadside, and they sent this provider with a Tacoma and a mechanic. He tried jumping and he immediately said it's needing a new battery, and asked if I want to change batteries. I was just having a serious case of Fuck it So I agreed for interstate battery, which was cheap (95) but labor was $50!! WTF? However, it still won't crank. After that, he then found out that my terminal was badly corroded to a point where it's no longer usable. Not only I prematurely replaced my crappy OEM battery, I felt like I was a bit ripped off. He only told me after I got battery in the end. On a better note, I won't have to worry about battery for some time. OEM battery suck. (Acura) read more

I am a student at UCSD. I was studying at home for my midterm I realized it was 1:50 and I needed to get to campus. So, I jumped in my Jeep and drove like a mad man to get there on time. I pulled in to the Hopkins structure at about 2:10 and went to purchase a parking permit. I jumped out of my Jeep while it was running and realized I left it in drive, so I pressed the brake and put it in park. Well, somehow the door locked and it closed. There I am, standing in the middle of the parking structure wondering how I am going to get out of this situation. My phone, blue book, and pencil were all inside the vehicle as it sit idling. I was able to wave another driver down to use his phone to call my insurance for roadside assistance. I explained to them that I was in the parking structure and they told me to stay by the vehicle. And somebody will drive by. I will spare you the whole story and just say that they sent somebody from another company, but they never went in the structure. I went outside of the structure and saw the tow truck again, I whistled loud and was yelling "HEY! I'M OVER HERE!" but, he just drove off. I was so pissed. He didn't even come to a complete stop at the 4-way stop sign. The time was 3:45 when this happened, so my Jeep had been sitting in the parking structure and running for over 1.5 hours. My midterm was supposed to start at 2 and last until 5. UGH! I tried to ask other people to use their phone, but everyone was in a hurry and didn't have time. Finally, at about 3:50 the parking violation officer came around the corner and I told him my situation. He let me use his cell and told me to call Eastgate Towing. They were out, had my car unlocked, and processed my payment by 4:10. Rate was $45 dollars, which is the same amount I paid 5 years ago when in Seattle. BTW, I was able to take my exam at 5 with another class. He was not cool with the situation, but at least he let me take it. I should have called Eastgate from the start. read more

I see that two other people gave negative reviews and I probably should wonder why, they were probably upset about the fees about getting their car towed. I've been down that route before. One tie I parralel parked my old VW van like a ninja only to have it towed cause I blocked this dude's driveway. My experience with the gentlemen at Eastgate Towing was pretty decent. First off, through Triple A they towed my car all the way to Los Angeles. Plus 2 stars. Then for two months I drove around with it buzzing all the time because the seat belt was broke and finally came back to San Diego they fixed it free of charge. Plus 2 stars. One night in Los Angeles my girlfriend was driving my car and she couldn't take the buzzing, and I was drunk so she got out of the car in a seedy neighborhood, and I got pissed and slammed the passenger door and knocked the side moulding off, the guys at Eastgate fixed it free of charge. It was almost like interest on a bad loan. Anyways, the least of things I could do is write a positive review on these guys because I am very grateful to them. read more

My car was burnt in an accident and i also had AAA take my car to there lot because the insurence of the persons car who had done damage to my car covered the costs there. To my surprise one day after the accident I called the Eastgate and they "claimed" AAA did not cover the towing costs and wanted me to pay 550 dollars for the towing fee and the lot fee... They are very RUDE and I am currently 8 months pregnant and dont appreciate the stress they casued me. They tried to take advantage of me in a very bad time.... I payed the 550 to a rude old guy (whos the owner) still claims AAA did not tow my car and I must pay the full amount, even though i called AAA and they assured me they would cover the costs. After I had paid I recive a call from an AAA supervisor asking me how much i paid and he stressed that I get my money back and he would call the old man right away. Definantely not reasonably priced. They charged me $200 for a 6 mile tow + $95 for needing a dolly. The day rate is $50. They do not abide by the law that states you have the right to pick up your car 24 hours a day 7 days a week despite having a $95 option for this. When I called saying I was there they have me excuses about no one being in the office and said I had to go back the next day. When the police officer asked they said it was a paperwork issue which was a lie because they told me the only paperwork needed was my license to prove I am the registered driver. In addition, they do not abide by Assembly bill 2210 (Goldberg, Chapter 609, Statutes of 2006) which states that when towed due to a parking Issue they have the right to no more than half their normal rate. This is the Reasonable release rate clause. So definantely some slimy business going on here. read more

It ruins your night when you lose your key's on the beach, of what could have been a wonderful day. :-( Ok so we need a tow truck ugh! The driver (Kurt) arrives in 15 minutes. He sets the truck up so the lights can help us look for the key's, then like inspector gadget unlocks our car door (350z) which seemed impossible. As we drove home Kurt was friendly, talkative and encouraged us to go to the beach and look for the key's in the morning. Kept my car in their tow yard for as long as they possibly could. Kept being short and rude to me on the phone. Would not recommend.

A nightmare turned dream... Stranded on the side of the freeway right in the middle of the night...called EASTGATE TOWING and they sent someone out within 15 minutes. Tow truck drivers don't have a reputation of being the nicest, but ours was! CARLOS came to the rescue, got us off the highway and made us feel safe. He towed us to a place were they fixed the problem and the car was back on the road in a snap. A true hero THANK YOU CARLOS and Eastgate towing for all your help. The tow truck driver named Tim was rude. He asked me if the car had an I hook. I have no idea what this meant because I'm not a tow truck driver and then he proceeded to tell me it's probably in the back of my car where the extra tire is and expected me to find it myself. He would not explain to me what it was for. He also asked me to get in the car and release the break, big no no to ask me to get in the car. He never asked me at any point what was wrong with the car which should have been the first question that he asked. If he knew what he was doing, and was safe he would have told me to get off of the road and get in the truck while he did his job. It took forever for the tow truck driver to show up so in the meantime I asked my housemate to come pick me up so he was present. My housemate happens to be a manager at a major towing company in San Diego County. So he was able to point out all the things of this guy was doing wrong. SCAM ALERT! They further damaged my vehicle while putting it on the tow ramp. Driver aggressively enforcing I agree my car taken to an auto body shop approved by my insurance. Took advantage of a woman in duress. That auto body shop was also a SCAM. Avoid this place. If your road side assistance offers them say NO!!!! read more

If I could give this place 0 STARS I WOULD. The owner of the tow company "Mike" was very uncooperative and difficult. He even called the police department in another room so we wouldn't hear the conversation in which he continued to LIE about which documents I had to release my car from tow. The most unpleasant and unprofessional experience in my adult life. I would NEVER recommend any one to use this service. read more

My car was stolen and left somewhere. These people received it when it was towed, told me it would be $250 to get my car out, took my money, then brought me to my car which was completely torn up and not driveable. They asked if I would like to drive the car to a junkyard since it was now a piece of junk, and when I was like, "uuuuh, it's inoperable?" they took the car and sold it for parts "as a service to me" because otherwise I'd have to pay them to tow the car to a junkyard. Unhelpful crooks, just like any other towing company. read more
