As I was leaving the Tri-Cities area, my Expedition was running really rough. At first I chalked it up to maybe the road is rough or the wind that was blowing really hard was making the car shake. Once it started going up the hill past Vantage, I knew something was really wrong. Limped our way to Ellensburg and found Eastside Automotive onYelp. It was 10 o'clock at night so I left my car in their parking lot. They opened at nine and by 9:15, they (Lou?) already had my car diagnosed said it could be fixed within the hour. I am a newly widowed mom. He could've sold me a new engine (my diagnosis after searching google) but instead it literally was a -$50 part for an unlatched spark plug. Very helpful! I called to inquire if they could look at my son's truck door that wasn't closing. I appreciated Lou's helpfulness in offering to bring my son's truck inside to warm it up to see if possibly the door lock was simply frozen due to the extreme weather conditions. My son is a student at CWU and I live hours away. It's stressful as a mom not being able to help your own son. I felt Lou went above and beyond to help us out. As it turned out when my son was driving to Eastside Automotive the truck warmed up enough for the truck door to shut. These are the following reasons why I cannot recommend Eastside Automotive: 1. The mechanic was not communicative; he spoke to me in a demeaning manner and treated me with contempt. 2. His quality of work is questionable due to the fact that he broke a whole bunch of clips that did not have to be removed in which I was responsible for paying. I complained and Marty discounted the clips but again, the clips should have never been removed and broken. 3. I had to return two additional times to get my side mirror tightened and then because my speaker was not working (speaker wires were criss-crossed). In addition, the weather stripping was not installed completely. I had to run my fingers across the entire bottom half of the door and pop in several clips that he missed. 4. When I finally picked my car up for the last time, my tire was rubbing against the curb. I had a tough time moving away without curbing my wheels. read more

I like Lou he seemed like a straight up mechanic that tries to evaluate the problems with your car and fix them. He's seems like a real mechanic that knows how stuff is supposed to work That being said and reading other reviews what do you want? If your car has issues that your problem. There's no messiah that can fix everything on your pos. But I think this shop is good and do the best they can and not trying to take your money for nothing. Four stars cuz you gotta walk on water to get 5 from me. He's def a four star shop. Be happy if he'll work on your pos jalopy. read more

Brought my Volvo in a while ago for a check of things. Pleasant enough experience talking with the guy about the condition of things, and got a quote for switching out the control arms. Couple weeks later I called in and set up a day to bring it in for the service. The day of I called and asked when a good time to bring it in was, as I've always done bringing my car in anywhere when we didn't have a prearranged time. The guy said, "well, cars are inanimate objects that you can just leave somewhere," blah blah blah. After that, he asked what I was coming in for, and I told him the control arms. He informed me that no one had ordered the parts or anything. I said forget about it. My girlfriend also had an experience of being condescended to, but that's another story. Not going back. I recommend CV Autoworks. Update: Okay so Marty wants to write a snarky reply not taking any responsibility for his BS practices. I got a quote for the parts and labor and set up a day for the job, no one said anything about a deposit, so that's BS. It's a $65 part one can easily get, it's not "special." What a ridiculous reply. "Pathetic whining?" I'm going to actively make sure no one I know goes there. Well done. read more

My car broke down and I was 2+ hours away from either of my homes. A call for help yielded Eastside Automotive as my closest repair option. Boy was I lucky. After being towed to their shop, the secretary quickly took down my information and told me where the nearest coffee shops and restaurants were within walking distance where I could wait in warmth for my car's diagnosis. As I was just passing through and had to be somewhere the next day, she also explained where to find a greyhound station and local hotels in case I had to spend the night. She was absolutely wonderful and extremely attentive to my needs as I was cold and stranded. It turns out my car had thrown a rod and I needed to replace the engine. Disastrous! After a little searching they were able to find a used engine with less mileage than my now-useless engine had. They made sure it's warranty was acceptable and replaced everything in a timely manner. Just for good measure, they even put in new head gaskets on the engine (anyone with a newer Subaru knows this is a point of weakness). Overall the engine runs great and I've put 3000 miles on it with no problems. Granted, this was to be expected. The best part of my experience with them was how they treated me like one of their sons. I'm a recent college grad with limited life experience and they took care of me by offering discounted services and taking the time to share some much needed advice. Remarkably, to my surprise, two weeks after getting my car back I even received a text message from Eastside Automotive asking me how my car was and reminding me to check all the fluids. This will stand out in my mind forever. Overall the service was excellent and my car's running better than before. Strongly recommended! read more

Wonderful shop with extremely knowledgeable staff! We were driving through Ellensburg on our way to Portland when our Subaru Outback started shaking and spitting out plumes of smoke. Having no idea what had happened to the car, we looked online for a good auto shop and Eastside Automotive showed up with very positive reviews. We called and the owner said he could see us right away. Luckily we were extremely close so we were able to drive the car a couple short blocks to the shop. It took only a couple hours for them to figure out what was wrong and fix it then we were ready to continue on our way! The mechanics said the problem was not something that normally would have been easy to identify, a faulty O2 sensor. We were very lucky that they did! I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for an excellent auto shop! Prices were great too. read more

I am very impressed with Joe and Marty! They took on a challenge that many a repair shop would pass on. My niece's 1998 Volvo needed a new fuel pump which would take all day to replace if they went by the book. I shared with Joe a method that involved cutting an access panel below the rear seat that I saw reputable YouTube mechanics do to save hours in time and effort. Joe was game and actually enjoyed this challenge which saved us a lot of labor cost. read more

Engine trouble on a Friday afternoon while traveling from Bellingham to Pullman. The mechanic was just leaving for a lunch break. He postponed his lunch to diagnose my problem, find parts and make the repair. Everyone there went out of their way to make sure our needs were met. I was driving home from Seattle when the oil light came on. I yelped mechanics and pulled into Eastside Auto. The mechanic, (I failed to get his name), stopped what he was doing and assisted me without delay. He carefully added 1/2 qt of the recommended oil & that did the trick. Eastside Automotive....Outstanding job LOU!! I had just purchased a newer vehicle from a not-so-honest person in the Redmond area and was driving it home to Idaho when i stopped for a short break in Ellensburg. When i restarted the vehicle it went into "fail/safe Limp mode". I made a trip to Autozone to have it scanned and found multiple codes. The very nice folks at Autozone recommended Eastside Auto which was right next door where i met one of their Master ASE Certified Mechanics Lou. Lou stopped his work on another vehicle and took the time to diagnose my vehicle. Lou found the problem and needed to keep the vehicle over night as it was already late in the day and nearly time to close for the day. The following day i received a call from Lou telling me it was an electrical short in the wiring harness that he found and it was fixed!! Lou, one of the longtime mechanics, is a genius with cars (subarus especially, based on our experience). Let's face it -- no one wants to have car repairs done. It's always an expensive process. Louie at Eastside Automotive is an excellent mechanic and a kind soul. I experienced car trouble just before closing time on the Friday before Memorial Day weekend, and all the automotive shops nearby were closing for the holiday. I called every mechanic within a 30 mile radius, and Louie was the only person wiling to stay late to work on my car. Otherwise, I would have needed to leave my car in Ellensburg and have someone rescue me. Louie also was able avoid what could have been an incredibly expensive repair. He was quick to diagnose the problem, and he explained everything thoroughly. My catalytic converter was gunked up with engine oil, and he knew a trick to clean it out. A less skilled mechanic may have charged me over a thousand dollars, but Louie was able to fix my car for a hundred. Eastside Automotive is truly a gem. Though I live over an hour away, I will make the trip to Eastside Automotive for service whenever I can. read more

We had a whole disco party of error lights come on while driving our Subaru Forester over the hill from Yakima to Ellensburg (en route from Boise to Seattle). Pulled our car into their parking lot with no advance warning, and these guys did a great job getting us back on the road again. So not a great shop. Mostly spend there time diagnosing problems but never fixing anything. I was billed almost 400 bucks and they said that they cannot locate problem. Then i Spent 287 bucks at a different yet well known and trusted mechanic to completely eliminate the problem. They will scam if they can trust me. Go to a well known shop like cv, hosmers, Seth motors or somewhere where people are willing to work and fix issues rather than spend money diagnosing problems that they cannot find, allegedly! read more

My experience at Eastside Automotive was fantastic. I have a custom built Toyota 4x4 with a lot of mismatched parts that suffered from a failed wheel bearing on a trip to Idaho resulting in one of my front wheels falling off. After making multiple calls around town I found Eastside to be the most enthusiastic and helpful in getting it towed in to them. Other shops declined due to the nature of the vehicle and problem. Lou the mechanic was very knowledgeable and helpful in sorting out the parts I would need to get back on the road going above and beyond what would be required to work on a normal vehicle. Can't say enough good about my experience with Eastside Automotive in Ellensburg. Called on Saturday afternoon of Labor Day weekend on my way from Austin to Seattle. Started the day in Yakima where mechanics at a dealership advised me that there was one, very expensive solution to my problem which would require a part that could not be obtained for several days. Rather than stay for the better part of the week in Yakima, I decided to try to finish the drive to Seattle. I pulled off in Ellensburg an hour after leaving Yakima, resigned to the fact that I wouldn't be able to finish the drive until after Labor Day. Instead, the owner at Eastside took my call that afternoon and immediately identified a more effective, less-costly solution, and advised me to order a part from AutoZone. The part arrived at 1:00 the following day - the Sunday of Labor Day weekend - and I was driving before 2:00. Lou, the mechanic that worked on my car, was both incredibly nice - giving thorough explanations and sticking around later than he had anticipated - and impressive in his skill-set - diagnosing, articulating fixing a couple of issues quickly and effectively. From my experience, the guys at Eastside are equal-parts great mechanics and great guys, and I am very grateful for their work which saved me hundreds of dollars in hotel costs, in addition to hundreds of dollars in parts and labor. read more
