While the initial price (~$6000) was high, the ability to avoid continuously adding salt seemed to make it worthwhile. We are on well water and after testing EarthSmarte said they could handle all the iron in our water as well as removing the calcium. Once they installed the system, however, we quickly found out that their system was in fact not up to the task. After some back and forth, and some adjustments, EarthSmarte declared that we would need to add in a salt-based softener (at a cost of $380) to address the issue, putting us right back where we started, except with a less efficient and less effective system.
