I saw her twice a week and witnessed (and smelled, and tasted!) everything she created in that time, so I can attest to her awesomeness. Gillian's cooking enabled my boss to have stress-free dinner parties for friends multiple times a week, an activity she greatly loved. Our boss also had Gillian cook and freeze meals so there was always healthy food in the fridge for her or family, and she was able to do catering for parties. Gillian is incredibly adaptable. She's able to make such delicious meals that are so healthy, and can accommodate any kind of special needs. I watched her create dishes for vegans, vegetarians, pescetarians, low-acid, kosher, gluten free, dairy-free, nut-free, you name it, Gillian can do it. People raved about her tofu. Tofu! She's also able to make two options so everyone has something they can eat. She even made me a gluten free chocolate birthday cake with quinoa that was so good I froze the leftovers so I can have a piece anytime I want. And everything is gorgeously plated, and the kitchen left pristine. For three years I have enjoyed working in a place filled with delicious smells of whatever Gillian is cooking up that day. I have also really enjoyed knowing her, as she is a delightful, warm, and fun person to be around. I heard countless guests exclaim in delight at how delicious and beautiful the cuisine was, and on the occasions I was invited to taste, I also found myself with eyes widening, joining the the chorus of, "ohmygosh this is SO GOOD." Never in my life did I think I would hear so many people wax poetic about yams, but when Gillian makes her special mashed yams, you can't help but swoon. Gillian's delicious menus allowed my favorite hostess to keep hosting despite declining health. She was able to invite her friends and family over to share quality time together over great food. Gillian's cooking allowed for no-stress family gatherings and dinner parties galore. That's right, no-stress dinner parties. Can you imagine? Only made possible because Gillian had the food completely under control. Her menu planning is superb, and above all flexible. Organic, gluten-free, lactose-free, nut-free, pescetarian, vegetarian, vegan and good ol' fall off the bone roasts; she has made it all (and I ate it all and then had seconds)! I go through withdrawal after having her citrus marinates and salad dressings - flavor town! The presentation is very professional. The dishes all work well together, and come with detailed instructions for serving, storing and reheating. She is a zen presence in the kitchen and there is no trace she was ever there except for the neat containers of scrumptious food. She makes healthy eating a pleasure with all sorts of creative side dishes (the grains and veggies - - I could make meals just out of the sides!) and can get down and dirty with amazing desserts. Next to the Chatham Green complex and across from Police Plaza there is a pop-up serving meals, breakfasts and lunches, that I had been overlooking, to my detriment. They call it a "summer pop-up" so this sorely needed source of prepared meals is in question as to how long this will continue. They have tables set up on the sidewalk, that is sparsely trafficked. So you can enjoy a nice quiet meal, unlike the others that are located next to busy streets. Don't mind the police barricades, as the street is fully open to pedestrians. I am so satisfied. I had the pulled pork sandwich. The pork was so tender, delicious on nice quality Italian bread. The food was served up promptly, and hey, for the Manhattan location, and quality food, prices are more than reasonable, and this is a bargain with a capital "B". However, Lena and her team quickly settled these nerves. Here's my breakdown of the experience: Pre-Event Date: Lena was extremely responsive throughout the entire process and was great to partner with in catering the menu to my likes / dislikes as well as taking into account any allergies amongst the group. Day of Event - Arrival / Setup: Lena and the two waiters she came with arrived on time and quickly settled in and got to work to help set the room / table up. I was somewhat surprised how little I had to do to get everything setup. Food: Every dish was excellent and all 12 people agreed! The presentation and taste was top notch and I felt like I was at a Michelin star restaurant. The dessert was heavenly and I enjoyed every last bite! Waiters: The waiters were extremely thoughtful and professional. When each guest arrived, the waiters greeted them and took their coat / bags to hang them, which was a nice touch. They also ensured our glasses (wine and water) were never empty. Before they left, they cleaned up the kitchen and washed all the pots, pans, and dishes that were used for the night.
