The bowl comes with yellow mixed rice, lettuce, chicken Shawarma topped with a spicy white sauce.. The taste was great. There was plenty of chicken, rice and lettuce within the bowl. I loved their statement on the wall. "We are a team of refugees and immigrants with a an unparalleled passion for the craft of cooking." Next time we come into town, we shall have to try this again. Absolutely loved the food here. In particular the lentil soup was so lemony and flavorful would definitely recommend and especially for the price. The the hummus was also good but not has flavorful. The pita was good but a bit hard. Would 100% eat the lentil soup again. read more

Visiting Chelsea market today and chose to eat food I've never tried before. We ordered 2 different items and some apps. I forgot to take pictures because I was so excited to try the food. I was so happy with my choice saffron rice and chicken yassa origins from Senegal it was absolutely delicious! my friend got the couscous and the kabob Hindi origins from Syria it was really good. I also tried the sumac salad was also delicious! The guys behind the counter were so nice and the small restaurant was clean and pleasant! I loved it so much I want to go back before I travel home. I like the concept, the space, but the food was just ok. I thought the eggplant curry rice bowl was ok although it couldve been spiced more, and i got a sandwich thinking I'd...get a sandwich. Instead it was a pretty sad wrap that was cold and not great. read more

A decent place for a quick bite or to take and eat at pier 57! I ordered the chicken bowl with the rice and it was really good. The chicken was flavorful and so was the rice. I did think that this place was a more customizable bowl option, where we can add veggies / sauces but that is not the case. The hummus and daal are extras. It is a bit pricey for the quantity of food, greater than $15 for a somewhat small bowl. I really liked the service, the person working the counter allowed me to try some of the other options, and I really appreciated that! I would definitely come back and get the eggplant option next time. It was surprisingly very quiet, compared to every other place in Chelsea market. I rarely write bad reviews, but I felt compelled to share my experience. This was my first time at this place. While the atmosphere is amazing and the food smells wonderful, the service was disappointing. There was only one person handling everything--cooking, expediting, and cashier duties--without washing hands in between tasks. Really don't know why this place is not more popular. Found this under-the-radar place while ill-advisedly trying to get a quick lunch in Chelsea Market on a Saturday, and this was one of the few places without huge lines and with ample seating. The dishes are not cheap, but the food was unusual and delicious. The chefs and dishes rotate regularly. Get the tres leches cake for dessert- it is amazing and a great bang for the buck! read more

This time I had a mix of Katarica curry and Chicken Yassa on jollof rice. They also recently started making lebanese booza which reminds me of home and is very good! It's a great concept, so we wanted to like this place, but, though we had enough people in our party to try everything on offer that day, not a single item was especially good. All the flavors just kind of fell flat or else were insufficiently balanced-out. Even the yellow dal, which should be an easy winner, tasted way too saturated with a cloying coconut flavor (and I like coconut, but this was way overdone and overpowered the rest of the dish). The saffron rice, dal, black beans and sumac salad were good though. The ambience is cool, but the workers weren't very friendly and were talking to their friends. That's how we found Eat Offbeat, their THE KITCHEN WITHOUT BORDERS COOKBOOK was recommended to us and we love it! Their vegan bundle is packed with tasty treats too. Careful, the Iraqi tahini walnut dates are delicious and addictive! If you're vegan, Eat Offbeat is a great company with great products to try. But, everything isn't vegan, so check the ingredients carefully before ordering. One time we accidentally ordered some Syrian barazek cookies and didn't realize they weren't vegan until we tasted them. They're delicious but have butter. read more

We wandered in here on a weekend on my way to another eatery. I am so glad we stayed! I have to add that we don't eat meat and most of the menu includes this ingredient, so we had the falafel sandwich. The restaurant Moustache is the place to beat in the great falafel cook-off. Eat Offbeat is really tied with them. Different than Moustache and in a league of its own. We loved it. The wrap is crispy and thin, and the falafel and other ingredients are truly delicious. Tahini on the side and we were in heaven. The staff here are delightful, too. They also have iced tea and a lemon juice mix that is sharp and suitably lip-puckery! We mixed the two to make our own Arnold Palmer. Delicious, too, and a great accompaniment. We were too full (we shared the sandwich) for sweet treats, and so those will have to wait for a future review! I asked about more veggie options and they said that these might appear soon. I can only hope so. We now have a great place to lunch fairly cheaply when we go to Chelsea Market in the future. Try it! read more

Wow!! My office just catered lunch from here and the food was incredible. A refreshing edamame salad (with tomatoes and cucumbers!), vegetable biryani, chicken karachi, mouthwatering katarica curry (eggplant!)... all so so tasty. Not to mention, their business model is incredible and supports refugees resettling in the NY area. *Catering Review as a consumer not organizer* My company has begun to cater many lunches from here and each time I am delighted. From an operational perspective, I cannot add more comments beyond the food is always hot (so I assume it comes on time) and it seems like it has been seamless with utensils etc. For the food, I like this place, because I feel like I'm getting to try new food, but at the same time these new items are still within guidelines that make it appropriate for a 50+ person group. My four favourite things so far have been: chicken empanadas, yellow daal, chicken stew, and the charred eggplant dip (not to be confused with the similarly delicious babaghanoush. I'm not a huge rice person, but there is a rice dish that has sweet and savory elements that many folks are fond of. Net net this place a) does catering b) is really delicious and c) accommodates a variety of cuisine and dietary preferences in one stop. read more

Ordered lunch for a party of 10 in an academic setting. The food (mixing dishes from Iran, Afghanistan, Syria, and Irak) was exactly a combination of "welcoming/easy but also tastier and better done than usual", kudos for chicken perfectly cooked and the plenty vegetarian options. The delivery was reliable, the presentation was simple (minimalist but with a good hint to appreciate what is different). Honestly among the 2-3 best catering I have found gastronomically speaking for that price, with the added benefit of supporting a good cause. For any party above 10 (their minimum order) it's a "no brainer best option". Even for less (7-8) I might consider it as I'd rather have too much good food than something disappointing to save a bit of cash. Will continue to order from them and hope they keep on this great impression. In an ideal world, that catering project will disappear as causes for refugees are addressed. This place is fab--delicious food, social justice business model. They catered and set up an iftar we had last week at a friend's apartment. Rose who delivered and set everything up was professional, thoughtful, and made everything a visual delight. The food was delish. I'd say aside from the veg samosas which were solid but not outstanding, everything was out of this world. My particular fave were Chef Dhuha's Sumac salad (light, crips, refreshing and just different enough from other cucumber/tomato salad dishes) and Chef Diaa's Beef Kebabs, which were served with a tomato parsley pomegranate sauce that locked in all this flavor and kept them moist. No doubt the best kebabs I've ever had. Will definitely book Offbeat for future events. Try this place!!! read more
