ECDC, located in the lobby of the Lismore Hotel Eau Claire (a DoubleTree by Hilton property), was a pleasant bonus of staying at the hotel on a recent visit to Eau Claire! We stopped by each morning of our weekend stay for some coffee and breakfast and were pleased with the quality of everything! We enjoyed some specialty hot coffees most mornings and I was particularly happy that there were milk alternatives including oat milk. The kids enjoyed a breakfast sandwich one day and bagels on the others and I enjoyed a chia pudding one morning too. It is worth noting that if you are seeking a hot breakfast such as a breakfast sandwich, you can only get that after 7am, which didn't work out so great for us. They were extremely strict about this too. (Even at 6:50, they wouldn't take an order as they said they could not prepare anything other than what was ready in the case until after 7.) Delicious drinks, done dirt cheap! Situated in a hotel is Eau Claire Downtown Coffee. Or better known as ECDC. I saw this place when I first visited Eau Claire but never got the chance to go. I told my friends that when we hang out for vacation, my only one real request is hitting up ECDC at some point. Not because I love rock music but because I love the ingenuity of the name... and maybe because it reminds me of AC/DC every time I think about it. We popped in on our quiet day and were greeted with a really nice coffeehouse and some really nice baristas. I ordered my usual americano while Tim and Matt got drinks and a small baked good. We took a seat at one of the tables and just chatted and talked about our plans for the day. My americano was really good. I noticed americanos up around Eau Claire were more subtle and subdued versus back home, which by this point I was getting used to it. Tim and Matt both got a latte that sounded good to them and a baked good. Matt got a macaroon and Tim got a tiramisu cake square. I don't have much to say about this place that I haven't said a million times already. It was really nice inside. It had a very black theme to it. Maybe inspired by being somewhat named like this one hard rock band? There were some Star Wars meditating posters in one corner of the dining area. We didn't stay long before we slowly sauntered on to our next destination but I am 110% glad we stopped in and finally got to check it out. It was definitely worth the wait. Check it out sometime if you are in the area and need a break from the chain places (or try one of the other good places to get coffee in the area, which is what I suggest). Went in a couple weeks ago for drinks and a light breakfast. The parfait was good but the pastries were amazing. They had some seasonal drink options for st. patrick's day which is always fun. Kind of a strange vibe in the cafe because most of the people in there were hotel guests but it was still a nice atmosphere. My biggest complaint would just be that all of our drinks and food items came in single use containers instead of reusable mugs/ glasses/ plates. read more

Hot drink was warm at best . Service was totally cold. The two on staff were enjoying each other's company but seemed to not care about the customers. Had a very pleasant experience on Independence Day, 2023! As the only coffee shop that opened in town, it was very busy in the morning. And that only one barista at the back of the espresso machine really rocked! She kept her work station clean while producing high quality drinks. We got an iced matcha chai latte, a seasonal special apple cider latte, and a regular light roast brewed coffee. The barista even made a latte art in the middle of a million orders! Loved her attitude towards coffee! The apple cider latte was a successful latte - like a warm, slightly sweet hug. Milk and espresso got incorporated very well thus tasted smooth and rich thanks to the barista. The iced matcha chai latte and the brewed coffee were good but not like "wow". Don't get me wrong - it's very hard but important for a coffee shop to maintain consistent good quality during busy times. And ECDC did a good job. Wanted a smoothie but not a lot of places were open. I went here and I loved it. I got a green smoothie and the other flavors looked good as well. The bec sandwich is a great brunch option for those that aren't too adventurous, and the avocado toast is actually a good size. The coffee was great and my girlfriend thought the smoothie was good. The coffee shop is attached to a large common area so there is no problem finding seating. Definitely on the pricier side for what we ordered, but still a good place to try while in the area. read more

Eau Claire, Wi. They do have a nice rich latte here even if it is a bit on the small side compared to other establishments. Very nice espresso bean used, dark roast but no burnt taste. My quiche was just ok, way too eggy for my taste, and too light on complementary ingredients. Generous size but tasted like scrambled eggs. This is Wisconsin, give me the cheese! My wife egg dish was reported to be outstanding. Plenty of room to relax and get stuff done on the electronic device. The associated restaurant has granola and yogurt offerings, why not here? read more

I stayed at Lismore for a couple of days and they have this coffee shop open. They have gluten free bread and muffins, frittata. More options than what I usually find for a coffee shop. A lovely, light-filled space right in downtown Eau Claire with ample seating. My main complaint is the price. I ordered a tea, and it was over six dollars (it was simply a tea bag in a paper cup). This place has very nice service. I got a few items from here as well as a chai and cold coffee. I got a wrap from the cold sandwiches and the bread was so soggy it was impossible to eat. And for an $11 price it was just unacceptable. The bagel I got was a little stale the staff was nice enough to heat it up for me and I appreciated that. I asked for a hot chai and the temp was too cool and the iced coffee was a bit warm. I think there needs to be more focus on the quality of the items being sold and their current state. I stayed at Lismore when I am in town for business. The hotel did not serve breakfast due to COVID-19, but they offers me $13 credit to purchase breakfast. iTunes Northwoods Wrap, Veggie Fajita Wrap and Crispy Fries Egg Sandwich. They are all good, specially the sandwich was tasty. The bacon, spinach aioli and arugula combination was great with the fried egg. The brioche bun was excellent. The place seems very nice, and while I didn't get the coffee, it looks like a lot of people enjoy it, as it's usually somewhat busy. I did get the Northwoods Wrap on the first day. All in all, it was decent but could have used more sauce or some hot sauce to really help it out, as it was a little dry. The second day, I got the fried egg sandwich and that really helped improve my opinion of the place. It is a little pricey BUT the mixture of spinach, bacon, and fried egg, with some kind of sauce or pesto or something was delicious, and it looks like the bun was toasted or fried. If you're willing to spend around $9 for an egg sandwich, that's what got it an extra star. read more

We stumbled upon ECDC while staying at the Lismore Hotel (in the same building) and were delighted by this coffee shop! It's very cozy with a fireplace, good music, and lots of seating. The cafe has giant windows that overlook downtown Eau Claire, and it's nice to sit with your cup of coffee and watch all the people coming and going. The ECDC was voted one of Eau Claire's top coffee shops and rightly so. The iced coffee I ordered was so smooth and flavorful. Likewise, my friends got a drip coffee and a latte, and were very pleased with their choices. The bakery case looked really nice too, but we didn't try any goodies. Although I did note they had some gluten free bakery options. All in all, I wish I lived closer to Eau Claire so I could visit ECDC more often! read more

The inside of ECDC is absolutely gorgeous, with interesting art, wonderful textures and a roaring fireplace. The coffee, however, leaves something to be determined. I ordered a cold press coffee, asking for cream. I was informed there would be room left for cream in my cup, but then no follow-up on where that was. I could have guessed that one of the containers on the bar behind the cash register would have cream, but nothing was labeled, so I just drank it black. I do not mind black coffee, but this was bitter and severely unimpressive. I will be returning, no doubt, to try something different, and will update my review accordingly. But for a first time visit, I wasn't impressed with coffee or service. read more

Really great coffee! We travel all over the country and stop at coffee shops everywhere we go. Not only is their coffee absolutely delicious their breakfast options were excellent as well. They also offer a variety of non-dairy milks. I got a hot lavender latte with almond milk and a dairy free egg sandwich with arugula. The atmosphere is comfy and clean. In the middle of a global climate crisis, with air conditioning blasting ecdc burns a decorative gas fireplace. While this makes sense during a cold Wisconsin winter, I politely brought my concern to the attention of the manager. Rather than thoughtfully listen and perhaps even mollify me, she immediately became sarcastic and stated "everything we do here creates global warming " . She then blamed me for the fact that the smoothie I had ordered was served in a plastic cup with a plastic straw.
