The first time we used them everything was good and had no issues. However, we ended up using them for a bigger project for the 2nd time and they didn't care about my flowers underneath the tree they were trimming. I have about 10 individual plants with delicate flowers in the ground that I planted underneath the tree and instead of dropping the largest branches on the grass in front of the tree to avoid my delicate flowers, they destroyed them by carelessly dropping those large branches one by one all over the flowers. I saw them on video do it too. I had to put some of the stems back together with ties however, one of my flowering plants died due to the damage being too significant. Won't be using them again. We had used EC Tree Service to remove several Italian cypress trees from our property a year ago. (They offer a senior discount.) We were so pleased with their efficiency and professionalism that we recently asked them to return to remove a pine tree. Elmer came for a free estimate, which we thought was fair and reasonable. They included a service to grind the stump of the tree to below grade level in the quote. Work was done as planned, and their crew returned a few days later to grind the stump. I thought that it looked fine, but several days later when we attempted to plant a Japanese maple, we realized that we needed more of the roots of the pine tree to be removed. Elmer returned to look at the site, and offered to grind the tree roots deeper and wider to allow us to plant the maple for no extra charge! I am first off thankful to Yelp to let me kickoff a project bid request - due to the extreme storms big branches from our birch trees fell memoir neighbor's canopy/ gazebo and this was a sign to us that we needed to take care of it. We got a bid through Yelp from 5 Arborists and zeroed in on EC Tree Service due to the thoroughness and reasonableness of their bid. Initially the bid covered tree trimming for 5 trees and tree cutting and grinding for 2 trees however on the day of the tree cutting Elmer's foreperson said there was a 3rd dead tree that we were better off removing. They spent a Friday evening trimming the live trees and cutting down 3 dead trees. A different team came out the week after to grind down the stumps. EC Tree Service were quick, responsive, competitively priced (quoted under half the price of multiple competitors), and did an excellent job. I recommend them, but make sure you get it in writing if you agree to pay them for any extra work on site. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because we agreed upon a price for 2 additional work items, but they only completed 1 of them. They denied that they promised to complete the other item even though all three of us heard them agree that both additional items would be included for the increased price. My suspicion is that they intended to complete both items, but they ran out of time and didn't want to have to come back another day just for the last item. When they originally agreed to complete both additional tasks I considered asking them to put it in writing but figured since they had such good reviews and had been doing a good job that I could trust them to honor their word. That was a mistake. Lesson learned. We ended up paying the full price for both add-ons even though they only completed one. Maybe I could have argued it, but since we have no written proof I didn't want to go through the trouble. Still happy overall and would likely use the service again, but I would be careful to get everything in writing next time so I don't pay for services which were promised but not completed. read more

I asked EC Tree Service to remove a big tree and its stomp in our front yard. The challenge they faced was that our front yard is on a hill slope and we just planted new landscaping, irrigation and lighting. We had used McLenahan for many years before they were taken over by Bartlett five or six years ago (my sense of time is shot - could be longer or shorter when they were bought). We had problems with Bartlett and after a few years switched to someone else, who helped us also but then, when we agreed to have some work done, they hired another sub-contractor to do the work I had hired them to do, which was unacceptable for me. I do loads of research before I decide to hire someone for our trees - I didn't know anything about the people who showed up and did the work. So I did my research again and found EC Trees - and I am ecstatic. They helped us with one tree that had a huge branch that was splitting and at risk of breaking off and potentially causing some hefty damage. EC took care of it quickly and did a great job - and took precautions in securing the branch while they worked around it and finally removed it. Then we hired them to prune a huge number of trees and bushes and remove brush for fire prevention. We have one acre so it was a lot of work, but they were wonderful - arrived on time, worked quickly and professionally, and cleaned up every evening before thy left. It was a multi-day job but they put a good sized crew on it and it looked good when they were done. Afterwards, Elmer came over to check it all out and noted some things he wanted pruned back more - and he sent his crew back to finish it. Mind you, we were happy with what had been done, but we were thrilled after they came back. They exceeded our expectations. Three months later, they came back again to take down two dying Monterey Pines and to also trim some other trees during the winter months, which Elmer said was the correct time for Monterey Pine work, so as not to cause sap to flow which in turn would attract beetles which could cause damage to the other remaining pines and trees. And now, three months later, we have some more work to do - and needless to say, we are having Elmer come by to help us. He and his entire crew and office staff are some of the nicest people I have had the pleasure to work with and we are very, very happy.
