We have been to Ecco before and really liked it, but if last nights dinner is an example of the direction they are going we probably won't be back. The good: had a reservation for 6 celebrating a birthday and were seated promptly. Pizza was excellent. The bad: I have a severe shellfish allergy and like most restaurants the really could not accommodate.steak ordered medium rare. Was served medium well and tough. For a $40+ dinner that is unacceptable. Veal was overcooked and dry. Had to ask multiple times for a 2nd glass of wine. Waitress was not attentive and difficult to find. Went here for an early dinner on a week day wand was pleasantly surprised. The staff was much more friendly and attentive. We had Sunday gravy, mozzarella and prosciutto appetizer, and octopus tapas. Very crowded Friday night. They lose a star because I feel the hostess wasn't managing the list well. Wait went from 30 minutes to an hour which was ok. Then after an hour was told we were next and then it went to there is now someone ahead of you. Once seated, our server Anthony was outstanding. He was so personable and made great suggestions. Our food was delicious. The Brussel Sprouts is a must have again. They were flaky and flavorful. The Soppressata ... I could have eaten the entire dish by myself. The peppers, need I say more. The Sunday Gravy was good, didn't care for the flavor of the sausage but I'm blaming my taste buds on that one lol. I chose gnocchi as my pasta which was the icing on the cake. Ecco, Wow! As soon as you walk in you notice how aesthetically decorative the restaurant is. We were greeted right away and seated within moments. Ecco was bustling on a Friday night! We were happy to have had a reservation. The complimentary bread and dip to start was the perfect introduction to our dinner. We loved how traditional Italian dishes were served in addition to putting their own spin on other dishes. We ordered the brussel sprouts as a starter. They tasted average but we loved how big the portion size was - it was perfect for four people. Our entrees were generously portioned and fairly priced. This is the second time we have been here. I find it very problematic they don't accept reservations for parties under four. Both times they didn't have any tables but agreed to seat us if we'd be out in x amount of time to allow for the reserved parties. Since it's a drive for us, this will keep us from returning. I didn't love the butternut squash gnocchi and eggplant parmigiana, which I had the first time. I did really enjoy the rigatoni alla vodka and eggplant rollitini, which I got last night. Decor is modern/ pretty. For nice dinner for older couple, not a great experience and won't return. VERY loud (weeknight 5pm), so could not hear the server or my husband. They don't take reservations for couples. Seated in small room with large party despite booth availability. Food was ok but not 5 star for the price. We stopped in to have lunch. The restaurant is quite big. They have a huge bar area, it definitely looks like this must be a hopping bar scene. The bar easily seats about 50 people. We were seated in the bar area but at a booth. They have a nice sized dining area with what looks like a private dining area which can accommodate a large group. The service was quick and efficient. I ordered the Campagna salad with grilled chicken, my girlfriend had the Margherita pizza. She enjoyed her pizza and my salad was excellent. I loved the small bites of chicken that combined so well with the pesto and noodles Seafood pasta--generous on the seafood and perfectly prepared pasta with a balanced, complex tomato sauce Massive shrimp with pasta--I forgot the actual name of this dish with gluten free pasta, but it was delicious We will return in the future. Some of our favorites were the lamb and the brussel sprouts. These were delicious! I'd probably pass on the crispy artichokes. I didn't realize that these were deep fried, and was a bit disappointed since they were overly coated in breading. Besides this, we really enjoyed everything else. I need to update my review to help assess trending from my viewpoint What's changed: FOOD: a mixed bag in that the pizzas are very good. But other than the grilled shrimp appetizer the rest of the menu needs to move upwards fro barely OK to just eh I tried the fried meatballs this time and they were weird. First off tepid temperature at best. Suggests to me that they called them fried so they can be pre made in refrigerator and then quickly heated by deep frying. Clearly these came out too soon. But how do you explain the tomato sauce being room temperature shouldn't this be hot at a bare minimum and poured one after? SERVICE - while extremely polite there is clearly a need for extensive training. First the bus came by and I thought he was the waiter - I was told he wasn't my waiter just table bus. Really - the owner should tell them the response is "I will get your waiter right now". Also, for a pretty empty lunch crowd and there was plenty of staff, the waiters should be all over the customers and not on the side lines doing whatever. The time it took to get appetizers and entrees was awful given the light crowd. I can only imagine the turnaround during the rush! I am so glad I gave this place another try with a friend. My word! The fig bruschetta! What a delicious combination of crostini, fig purée, goat cheese and strawberries with a sprinkling of crushed honey walnuts served on a bed of arugula. We were amazed. And then my entree! The short rib ravioli in a creamy mushroom marsala sauce was sumptuous. The ravioli was delicate and fresh which signals they are definitely house made. Loved, loved, loved my meal. Our waiter was pleasant and waited on our table specifically. It wasn't an experience like noted in my previous review, where several different untrained wait staff visited. Veal Osso Buco is the best at Ecco Wine Bar in Trumbull, CT. Be it a week day or a weekend it is always busy and now we know why. We were a party of four and were seated at the booth. Though it was super busy (being a Friday), our server was very attentive. Thanks Mathew for making our evening perfect. I ordered Osso Buco and absolutely loved it. Highly recommended eatery with a rich dark black & gold interior that has a hip & upscale almost Manhattan feel to it. On weekend nights, wait times can be an hour at a minimum. Business is booming here, with excellent openers like fried meatballs and octopus. The salmon is served with a fine pairing of spinach & potatoes. For dessert, you can't go wrong with crème brûlée or a molten lava cake. Bartenders were busy and there was a cacophony of empty wine bottles clanging into the recycling bin behind the bar. Taylor was my party's waitress. She is to be commended. As busy as the scene was, she did a great job with the restaurant's most thirsty denizens - serving up with pumpkin martinis & more. This was our second time visiting this restaurant and while the food, on the most part, has been good, the service leaves much to be desired. As fate would have it, we were paired with the same server on both occasions. On both visits (one in late March and the other on June 13) he made the same dumb, critical mistake. Our table of four ordered two salads to share as starters (the salads are quite large and delicious) and two pastas (also quite large and tasty) as our mains. And both times, the salads and pastas came out of the kitchen together because our server, without asking, thought that we wanted them served together despite the fact that we very clearly said that "we'll start with the salads and then have the pastas." Last night, our server apologized at his second, identical blunder and said that "I'll have the pastas remade when you're ready for them." That was either an outright lie or the kitchen just ignored his instructions because when the two pastas did arrive, they were luke warm and farm from al dente--they were a homogenized, glutenous, gloppy mess. And when the server stopped by to ask how everything was and told him that the pastas were "cold and had obviously been kept on a warmer" and he nicely protested and said that they had been remade. That poor customer service was unfortunate because Ecco's food is actually pretty good and I could have overlooked this second visit's shortcoming had the server/restaurant made some small effort to correct their error. Now, we will NEVER return to this restaurant and certainly won't be recommending it to our large friend and family group. read more

The old fashioned drinks packed a punch and were delicious. The fig bruschetta was absolutely phenomenal. The chicken parm was good, but the lemon pasta was overwhelmingly tart. I recently went to Ecco in Trumbull and had a lovely time. The restaurant is in a good location with plenty of parking. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and incredibly clean. Its very modern and chic. The staff was very kind and we were seated quickly. The food was served in a timely manner and when we requested adjustments to our meals (ordering veal parmesan rather than chicken parmesan) they were able to comply with any requests. The food was amazing, especially the apps. I highly recommend getting the lamb chops (medium rare), tuna tartare and local mozz.
