We did the full-day rafting trip, and honestly? 10/10, no notes -- except to demand JP as your guide because that man is the GOAT. Guide of All Time. Funny, knowledgeable, calm in the chaos, and somehow knew both river facts and dad jokes. He could lead a TED Talk on how to have a good time on water. It was our family of four (two adults, two kids -- 12 and 15, professional eye-rollers) plus another awesome family we met on the raft. Total strangers at first, river besties by lunch. Echo Canyon clearly knows how to pair people up -- no drama, just good vibes and shared paddling trauma bonding. The river itself? Just enough rapids to make us scream-laugh, plus plenty of chill spots where we could float, swim, or yeet ourselves off rocks like majestic river creatures. It was basically summer camp, adrenaline edition. Speaking of lunch: we expected, like, a soggy sandwich and a dream. What we got was a deluxe box lunch -- huge, delicious, and teen-boy approved (which is saying something). Energy fully restored. We were ready to conquer the next round of splashes. Echo Canyon rafting is the way to go. Josh was behind the counter this season (we truly believe that he has found his new calling in life, he might argue to get back on the river). He is very knowledgeable and explained both trips we were going to take that day. Trinity was our morning guide through Big horn sheep canyon. This was the more family friendly but also not your typical stroll down the river. She did a great job explaining exactly what we would need to know to have a great time. Grant was our guide for the second part of our day down the Royal Gorge. This was a beautiful trip with stunning views. It also came with some adventure as we made our way down through the challenges of the river! I would highly recommend the royal gorge if you don't mind some bumps, fast action and putting in the work to keep yourself and others in the raft. Make sure you ask for Grant if you decide this route is best for you. He won't steer you wrong. (Literally). A couple tips Bring cash to tip your guides (they have an ATM if you forget like us) Good food and beverage on site. they do have some quick options if you are in a hurry. Great time on our whitewater rafting adventure with Pam! We had four people in our boat (not counting Pam), including a 14 and 9 year old. It was just enough adventure without being terrifying, and everyone had an amazing time. We were surprised to see that they had free wet suits and water shoes to use. Easy parking and a nice changing area. Would definitely recommend this excursion when you are visiting the area. read more

We did the half day trip through the Royal Gorge in mid-September. Alfredo was our guide, and he was awesome! He shared lots of history of the area and was super skilled for our first time rafters. Echo Canyon is a great outfitter; they were easy to book with, easy to find, provided wetsuits/booties/splash guards/helmets at no extra charge, and were very professional with great customer service. The gorge was beautiful, and the river was amazing It was lower and not as fast since it was the end of the season, but it was still a great rafting experience. Lots of rocks and technical parts of the river to raft through. I would highly recommend going any time of the season. We'll be back in June when the river is high! read more

First Time Here & First Time riding the rapids :) We have (3) boys ages 12, 10, & 7. While visiting CO wanted to try something adventurous yet safe. Signed up for the 1/2 day Big Horn Sheep excursion. With our family of 5 including our boys, we had the whole raft to ourselves, led by Sara. She was awesome. Sara entertained the boys with fun conversation, animal facts, and great stories for each part of the rapids. The rapids were just enough to make the boys a little scared but they all conquered any fears they had. The weather was perfect, slightly overcast with some occasional mist. Start to finish, the excursion was about 3 hours from when you arrive/check-in to when you load back up to return to home base. Tips: 1. Buy cheap water shoes (WalMart, Amazon) so you don't have to rent them or wear your teva type of shoes. 2. Bring a water pouch for your phone if you want to take pictures while cruising down the river. The only picture opportunity is the one where you have to purchase through Echo Canyon photographer. The price was something like $75 for one picture. Great family memories, lots of laughs, and a nice adventure for the day! read more

I had an excellent rafting expedition down the Royal Gorge with Echo Canyon River Expedition. We had a wonderful guide named Audrey who was very competent and sure-handed while directing the rest of us newbies down some occasionally hairy white-water rapids. I was also impressed with their facilities and equipment, everything was modern, clean, and new-looking, from the bathrooms/changing rooms to the adjacent bar and grill (which is owned by the same company). Needless to say I am a first timer !! The expedition starting with some great information delivered by Jeff. Clear instructions on what was to come and what they needed you to do next. My boyfriend and I had our 10 year old son with us and Wyatt was our guide. He gave clear instructions, practice time, made my son comfortable on where he wanted to sit on the boat. Our boat was off to a rocky start but we got it together real quick and Wyatt gave great positive feedback so we could keep going. This was by far the nicest facility in town. We have two young kids so we booked Big Horn. I was super nervous the kids would be scared and freaked out but they killed it! It was the perfect level of excitement (but not TOO much) for kids. Pringle was our guide and she was awesome. We LOVED the group jump and river float off the rock. We ate lunch at Echo's restaurant before our afternoon float. The included snacks are minimal for our growing boys so best be prepared. Our guide was Gabi and she was awesome. We did a scenic float with Ashlyn in July and had a fantastic time! We especially appreciated the included safety equipment and wetsuits.

My wife and I had a splendid time on the river today. We are both very adventurous and this was our first experience. We were a little nervous to experience class 3 & 4. We love adventure so it was a lot easier than expected. Don't get the wrong impression. We had an amazing guide. If given the chance ask for "Corn Dog" to be your guide. She will take good care of you. Also based on the photo guy she is the best at getting good quality photos. It was such a breath taking view at Royal Gorge. Not sure I would want to do the 8 hour float. The 4 hour was just right. For $7 we added wet suits. That kept us warm and was money well spent. If you are on the fence just do it. It was done very professionally and we never felt in danger. The only thing I would do different is sit in the front. The gopro did not take amazing photos since we were in the middle/back. Went to experience rafting for the first time. I'm not a water fan but this was an amazing experience! I would go again any time as long as Erica was my guide. She was amazing she knew the river and exactly where to go to keep us safe. I did the half day rafting for beginning/ intermediate. Great instructions would recommend for any age this rafting experience. Many other places charge for gear but this is all inclusive wetsuit, shoes, splash jacket, helmet, life vest. Pam was our guide.. she was so amazing.. kept her cool when 4 of us fell out of the raft. She showed strength and courage. Pulling my grown son from the water while he was being swept away with the rapids.. tried to leave her a big tip for making sure we all made it back into the boat and back to the bus together. But I think she had be traumatized herself because Having 4 of the 6 people thrown from her boat at the same time prolly doesn't happen very often. She told us we were the first that had 4 fall out at the same time. We couldn't find her when we got back to the bus..if anyone can tell her how much we appreciated her.. and how much we admire her ability to stay calm during such at stressful time. Went on a rafting trip with Echo Canyon after two weeks of hiking in New Mexico. We had a large group of scouts, and because of our group size were able to negotiate a small discount and get free wet suits and boots thrown in, though most of our group declined the wet suits. I got one, and it made the trip much more comfortable. The main outfitting station was well organized and well run; there is a restaurant attached which looked to have good food, though we decided to eat elsewhere. What made our trip perfect was the guide on my boat, Alfredo. He explained the commands well, and engaged our boat crew in conversation the entire time, pointing out areas of historical and aesthetic interest along the Royal Gorge route. He really was an amazing host- request him personally if you can. The trip was recorded on Go-Pro, but my group declined to purchase the footage. Overall I would definitely recommend this place for a white water adventure. read more

The ride to the drop off was quick and smooth. I appreciate fact that they did not sugar cost the possibility of things that could go wrong and what you need to do. I chose this place because they have lockers available. We drove roughly 14 hrs to this location. We didn't want to leave our expensive electronics in the car. I called about five other places who refused to hold our things out of the heat. The staff at this location was nice and accommodating. One guy even helped us figure out the lockers. Also, the facility is well kept and not as dumpy as most of the others we passed on the the drive in from Cañon City. We enjoyed our tour guide Jeff in the bus as well as the charismatic river guide Lucas. We did not tip our raft. The ride was very informative and safe due to thoughtful and careful guidance. We've gone on over 10 tours with this group and will be back again next year! We did the more adventurous tours as college kids and have since moved to the family float with our young kiddos. Yesterday we floated with our guide Jamie and our party of 18 (5 families with kiddos ranging from 4-6). We felt VERY safe for the littlest kids and there was just enough splashing for the more adventurous girls going into 1st grade. Our guide Jamie was professional yet kiddo-friendly asking even our youngest kiddo to sit next to him and paddle. If you're debating doing this - DO IT.
