Normally when you plan a party at some establishment there's a list of do and don't a mile long, they want you to leave a deposit out of this world, and you still aren't sure that they want your business. Well not so with GHPP. I went over to view the pool/party area with Nick, and I knew upon meeting him that this was going to be a easy and smooth party planning experience. He showed me the area, added us to the calendar, and told me there weren't really any rules. My biggest concern at the time was alcohol. He told me that we could bring all the liquor we wanted as long as it was in plastic bottles or cans. Another issue was food, and Nick told me that we could bring whatever food we like, but they also sold water, hot dogs and other snacks. We chose our spot and even though it seem like the flies tried to take over our food, it was a very shaded part of the pool area, and away from the regular folks. In the end, EVERYONE left the pool happy, and ready to go back to GHPP again. It truly was a great spot for having a pool party without all the hassles that some of the bigger establishments and hotels try and put you through. The pool has several depths, and there was even one lane set up for those that wanted to exercise and not just jump in with those of us that don't normally have a pool at our disposal.

I was super bummed with the attached restaurant closed, but apparently a new food place opened up in its place. I took my rugrats here for the "Splish Splash" event and really enjoyed it.

This one is nestled in the east side of Piedmont park, accessible by a short walk through some lower traffic entrances. If there is space, park in the neighborhood bisected by Park Drive NE. You can walk through the gate, curve around the lake, and you're there. The pool overlooks the lake, a prime location indeed. Piedmont has a similar relationship to Atlanta that say Central park has to NYC. It's a large, grassy space that everyone loves, and you can see the city looming in the background. The entrance to the pool itself reflects demand; on our afternoon visit, we had to wait a bit for other visitors to leave - they have a hard cap on the crowd size. At 11:00 on a Saturday, they were charging non-members a sweet five bucks. Anyway, the pool is really, really nice. The layout is such that you can do adult things if you like (laps, whatever), or you can entertain your kids if you need to do that. The child friendly features are abundant, including a splashpad and a lazy river. Mine really dig all of that stuff. Shady areas are abundant and you can chill on a nearby grassy area with your blanket or whatever. There is no diving board (no deep end either), but what public pool has one of those anymore? Lockers are abundant and things are generally clean. What's not to like? Also, shout out to Sean's, a very capable snack bar.

Unfortunately, the club did not handle an injury well with our daughter as she became a more advanced swimmer. Her "new" coach was more intent on the team winning than earning the trust and respect that a good coach would usually deserve. Which includes creating a welcoming culture, telling athletes to listen to their bodies and ensuring that he/she is PATIENT. We changed clubs as a result of Joey and had no problem doing so as every other coach was very happy to work with a high performance young teenager and help her get "competition ready." Coaching is a seminal component in a teenager's life and we did not feel comfortable with his attitude or interactions with the kids. Mike seems like a great CEO, but not well-informed by the coaching staff -that could be a result of the head coach who we never heard a word from. I would make sure to spend time talking to the coaches before picking Dynamo, depending on the child's age.

Out of the blue (or perhaps not so out of the blue because it was literally the day the Oakhurst Coach gave birth), Dynamo eliminated its high school program at Oakhurst with 3 weeks notice. No goodbye to the old coach, leading to sobbing and angry teens. The also not so best part was that they offered a 4pm practice when high school kids in this area get out at 3:45 6 miles away from the new location. Not sure if this was pregnancy discrimination or just awfulness/rudeness, but Dynamo has changed. I did try to reach out to the head coach and got a nasty note back from the Board Chair. You can't count on them to offer consistency, which I think was a hard lesson for my kids and for me since that's what they claim to sell. The City of Decatur should definitely take the Oakhurst pool back from Dynamo.

No one picked up the phone the few times I tried them and I wasn't even 100% sure they were still in operation. They ARE OPEN and it's a pretty cool place! Browns Mill, like all of the summer water facilities around Atlanta it seems, is run 100% by teenagers. There are advantages (cheap labor) and disadvantages to this (lack of professionalism, lack of consistency on policy; such as letting us in for free after first saying there was no entry at 6:00 when it closes at 7 and then actually closing at 6:45), and general chaos on a busy summer day. Lots of teens running around may or may not be a problem depending on who you are. Why are kids always vomiting in pools? I've seen this at four different facilities this summer and it happened not once, but twice at this pool yesterday. Just lean over and do it in the grass. I suppose it's not fair to evaluate to how often kids are (or are not) vomiting at an aquatic facility but it did mean we didn't get to try some of the main features of this park. It would have been nice if they also put up a sign about not using this sections as we arrived after the first vomiting incident and we only knew not to go in because others were avoiding it but didn't see any visible grossness. My two little ones liked the small lazy river and layout of the place. The pool looked fun but you have to pass a swim test to go to the deep end and this test changed depending on which life guard you asked. Even going in with your kids they just aren't allowed there. They also have a small kiddie pool section and a splash pad section. The two big slides looked fun as well as the kid's water playground. I would make this trip again and even at $7 (advertised local dekalb county residents price) I think it'd be worth the cool down on a hot summer's day.

I was looking for a reliable place to swim and work out since I'll be in this area regularly. This place is not it. I called ahead specifically to ask about swimming, and at no point was I told the pool would be unavailable. When I arrived, the pool was completely taken over by a swim class, making lap swimming impossible. That kind of poor communication is unacceptable and shows a lack of basic consideration for patrons' time. The weight room was just as bad. Multiple benches had visible sweat stains, making it obvious the equipment had not been wiped down after previous use. In a fitness facility, basic cleanliness isn't optional, it's the bare minimum. The bathrooms were absolutely filthy. Not "a little messy," but dirty enough to make you question how often they're cleaned at all. Between the unsanitary conditions and the disorganization, the entire facility felt neglected. I was hoping to find a dependable gym for future business trips, but this was a one and done visit for me. If you care about cleanliness, clear communication, or a professional environment, I'd strongly recommend looking elsewhere. This facility needs serious improvements before it should be charging people to use it.

Great Aquatic Center which has facilities for a great swim with 3 different swim pools, to play basketball as well as gym area for nice working out. Fees are very nominal. Clayton County residents pay $3, while non-county residents pay $5 for most activities per day. Also, you can take a monthly/yearly memberships. They also offer a variety of classes that folks can participate in from swimming lessons to kickboxing. Plenty of free parking as well. To find out all of the various programs available, please call the center/visit directly because they change very frequently as per the season. Great place to take kids throughout the year. They are open 6 days and week, Monday thru Friday 8 AM to 9 PM, Saturday 9 AM to 6 PM and Sundays closed. At the swimming pool, the water temperature was nice and warm. However, I was really excited to find this place, and on my side of town. The shower area was really clean and adequate number of lockers they had, which I appreciated. It's nice place to swim and practice some backstrokes. I have been here for the first time and love to swim here. Also it's very inexpensive if you live in the area, bring your ID/License for entry. There is another area where the water is much warmer, however it's reserved for adults only, no kids or beginners. I am always in this area for my swim practice. It is never too crowded on any given day. The main pool is sectioned off for those who want to do lap swimming. There is also a smaller pool for senior citizens. Supervision of all swimmers is excellent and the watchful eye of the lifeguards keep the swimming experience safe. Steve Lundquist Aquatic Center at the Jim Huie Recreation Center is worth your visit.
