It was very well maintained and clean. The pool was also clean, and well taken care of. I like that the rooms do not face the pool. (Only one does) which is a nice safety perk if you have kiddos. Breakfast was ok, but the omelet bar was a nice touch! Super close to Meow Wolf and downtown. And they lock the lobby door after a certain hour. So you must have a key to get inside. stayed here two nights while waiting to get into our B&B. Clean spacious rooms, decent size bathroom. very basic breakfast buffet. Waffle, iron, cereals, juice, fresh brew, coffee, not a machine, the usual breads, and rolls muffins. Yogurt, the one thing that stood out was they had a lady making fresh scrambled eggs with cheese well actually with or without cheese. Really a nice thing. Even though it was not warm enough to use the pool, it looked clean. And they had these things that somebody with mobility issues can sit on, and it would lower into the pool as well as the spa. read more

Don't usually stay in this class hotel but this Econo lodge is above and beyond any Econo lodge ever. We have stayed there several times through the years and it is so clean and comfortable and well maintained as to defy logic. I'll stay here anytime when at Santa Fe New Mexico. Very clean and well kept. They do serve breakfast but I didn't indulge. It would have been nice to have sheers over the windows to let some light in., but I'm grateful for blackout drapes. I also liked that the sick and mirror are not in the bathroom so there's no foggy mirror. And the price was exactly right for a quick overnight stay going through that town. read more

I really enjoyed my several night stay at this property (after a 2 year absence from New Mexico) - the room with King bed I stayed in was very clean, comfortable with self modulating heat/fan/ac, a working refrigerator and microwave, and SAT TV with many channels available. The breakfast was superior to other value motels I have stayed at, e.g., plain or cheese omelettes were prepared to order for guests. The owners/managers of this property, Tapas & Amisha (and staff) epitomize real hospitality because they truly care about their guests' comfort and satisfaction. Most travelers have experienced a moderately-priced hotel that had dated and somewhat worn furnishings, soiled carpets and minimal services, however the very least one should expect is a degree of respect and courtesy with a little flexibility of hotel operating policy when unexpected circumstances occur, as they sometimes do. Shockingly, this hotel has current furnishings, is clean and generally comfortable, however none of that can compensate for the rude and disrespectful behavior we experienced during our stay. I wouldn't return to this facility EVER - NOT EVEN in the event that it was the only hotel with a vacancy in all of Santa Fe, Espanola and Albuquerque combined. Management of this hotel hasn't modicum of concern for its guests, is outright rude and more disrespectful to the point of using profanity when addressing a customer's concerns. DO NOT STAY IN THIS HOTEL NO MATTER HOW ATTRACTIVE THE PHOTOS OR HOW GLOWING THE REVIEWS. Based on our experience, I strongly suspect that some of the positive reviewers were PAID to write them. We reserved for two nights. During the day after our first night, our vehicle experienced an engine problem that prevented further travel, so we left it at a repair shop, understanding that it would be serviced as soon as the shop would be able to do the work the following morning, which was the morning of our scheduled checkout and departure from this hotel. Arriving back at the facility, I inquired of the night clerk what might be possible for a late checkout, as we had been advised that our vehicle was unlikely to be ready before the 12 noon to 1PM range. (The checkout policy at this hotel calls for an 11AM departure.) The night clerk assured us that we could check out as late as 1PM and, should we need more time, a 2PM checkout could be arranged. There was no mention of a fee in any amount. During the following morning, while awaiting word from the repair shop, I approached the front desk to find a middle aged man who appeared to have originated from the Asian subcontinent, and identified himself as "the manager." Asked if he was aware of our request for a late checkout, he looked into his computer screen, confirming that it was scheduled for 1PM. When I mentioned that we were given an indefinite time for the conclusion of the repair, he emphatically stated in a louder tone of voice that a checkout of later than 1PM would result in a $20 charge. I then stated that I would inform him as to the progress of the repairs as soon as I knew of it. In a loud voice as I walked away, he stated that he needed to know by 11:30AM. Once again, I said that we may or may not know anything definitive as of that time and, further, that no charge was mentioned when permission was granted by the night clerk the previous evening. I then left the lobby area to return to the room. The room phone rang at 11:30AM. Upon answering, I was engaged in conversation with someone also likely having originated from the Indian subcontinent She was difficult to understand, so I indicated that I would go to the registration desk. Upon arriving, I was again confronted by the manager who immediately launched into a diatribe about the hotel's policy regarding a charge for a late checkout, further stating that the night clerk was an "employee," thus unable to speak for the hotel. That struck me as particularly unlikely since the night clerk was, in fact, representing the hotel's interests, Indeed, I had observed that he was handling all aspects of hotel business. It appeared that the hotel manager, now quite agitated, was suggesting that the permission for a late checkout granted to me by the night clerk wasn't valid. I waited for him to fully conclude his remarks, which confirmed my conclusions. I then stated that I had listened to his comments in full and that I would appreciate the same courtesy to explain my perspective without interruption. At this point, I explicated that any issues he might have about communications his desk clerk had with me were between him and his employee, and that I had every reason to believe that the permission I had received the previous night was entirely valid. That, since the clerk represented the hotel's interests, I disagreed with and would not pay a fee when I wasn't informed of one. As I did so, the manager began interrupting in a loud and disrespectful manner. I then asked him to afford me the same respect that I had provided him. His response was to shout in a loud voice, "SHUT THE F**K UP!" I was shaken by the aggressive tone and demeanor with which he delivered this profanity, something I would never expect of anyone serving a customer. He then threatened to call the police to have us evicted. Fortunately we were able to leave before the agreed upon 1PM time. There is more to this sordid experience, however there is a character limit. Suffice it to say, I recommend you reconsider staying in this hotel facility. We were super pleased with this hotel room! first off, when we walked in, we were shocked to see no carpet! It is so clean, right down to every corner - even the bathroom! This was a very nice place to stay. We checked in at 2 in the morning, had to call the number to get into the door. The young lady who checked us in was very nice despite us waking her up at the buttcrack of dawn. The whole place is very clean. The bed was comfy with fluffy pillows and a soft blanket. Well stocked continental breakfast, even at 9.30-at the very end of the breakfast service. That was a nice surprise, as most places will have a piece of dry bread and a half-eaten muffin left over at that time. :) Comes with freshly made omelettes too! read more

Looking for a clean, no frills, and reasonably priced place to stay? Come here. I can't compare the Econo Lodge to other places (resorts) I have experienced. It's in a different class. I will say this for sure. The location is great if you want to run around the Santa Fe area (10 minutes). And, it was within 45 minutes of the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta area (and Albuquerque proper). 1. Room was small but it was clean and perfectly functional, with a comfortable bed, flat screen tv and a desk 2. Manager/owner was very nice and accommodating 3. The other help was very nice and accommodating 4. The pool and spa were clean and inviting (I am a phobe about dirty pool/spa areas) 5. Light breakfast was complimentary in the mornings. Cereals, juice, yogurts, toast, and a waffle maker. Plus the usual coffee, teas, etc. It was nice to have this available so we didn't have to find yet another restaurant each morning. 6. I noticed that the other people staying here were very courteous and quiet (no slamming of the hotel room doors which pisses me off to no end). 7. The price just can't be beat! Only negatives I found were that the bathroom was extremely small and the sink was in the room, not the bath. Has to do with the small size of the bathroom. And, you will want to be located at the back of the motel, as there is traffic noise in the front rooms. I was offered a suite, but it was right on the street, which was too noisy for me. The room we ended up in was in the back, and it was very quiet. We even slept with the window open and had no problem with noise. There is no elevator, which is not a problem for me, but might be an issue for others (the stairway is inside the lobby, so you aren't out in the weather). Would this traveler come back here. I think I would. The motel may be older, but it was extremely clean, well managed and in a great location for heading out to adventures. read more

This is an OK hotel. It's well kept up, clean, and the hosts are very helpful. The problem is that it is very very basic. The rooms don't have a lot of space. The building construction is mediocre, so that I could hear the snoring of the guy next door all night, and sounds from the people below. There were plently of restaurants and gas stations close by which was convenient for a road tripper! The only complaint I would have is that the vanity surface was really limited. When we first arrived at this hotel I was skeptical. It is located along a very busy road and has a super tiny entry/check-in/dining area. My room was next to an outside entrance with a window that overlooked the dumpster. However, the room was huge and clean and also surprisingly quiet. The parking lot was not very full, so it might have just been a slow night for them. The only real negative is that my drapes did not overlap, so the room never got as dark as I normally like. Also, it was on the first floor, which is an area where I would REALLY like to have drapes that close fully. I was thinking of this location as a solid 3 star, but then my mom told me that they made her a very nice cheese omelette in the morning (not the usual continental breakfast fare), and that bumped them up a star in my book. read more

Wow, what a gem in the world of hit-and-miss hotel chains. Staff was so friendly, especially the young lady who was the breakfast attendant- who made cheese omelettes and scrambled eggs to order. The room was large, spotlessly clean, with a fridge and microwave. Love the plug-ins on the nightstand lamps- effortless to plug in your cell phone charger. The pool was on the smaller size, but clean and sparkling. The hot tub looked clean but we did not use it. Great wifi. They had one washer and dryer for guest use- which were very clean- and commercial sized (better quality wash but a few more quarters needed). Overall, our stay was wonderful and worth 5 stars given the room rates. Will absolutely stay again. For hikers: this was a good middle spot to do both Tent Rocks (30 miles or so) and also Bandelier (about 30 mins to White Rock, where you have to catch the shuttle). read more

DO NOT STAY HERE! AVOID! DRUGS ON PREMISES! DISGUSTING DRUG METH PIPE FOUND IN ROOM!!!! This pipe containing what the police identified as METH was found in the towels supplied by housekeeping in my room! This was left sometime Saturday as we didn't receive housekeeping on the previous day! We were potentially exposed to viruses, pathogens , germs and diseases. Manager/owner showed no concern for our safety as she literally told us we must leave the property immediately (she eventually allowed us 15 minutes to gather our belongings) in order to get a refund. The police were called to collect the evidence. Manager never once asked if we needed medical attention, or if she could help us find another hotel, or even if we had transportation! I am on vacation 3000 miles from home!! This was Saturday, a holiday weekend, with the city completely sold out of rooms due to numerous festivals taking place. We had to drive over an hour to Albuquerque to find a room. Furthermore, a guest who appeared under the influence of something ran back and forth from the lobby, crying and in a panicked state and kept banging on the pool door. As we were packing our vehicle, another woman who also appeared to be under the influence of who knows what was walking around yelling to someone in the parking lot. If you value your safety don't ever consider staying here. read more

Just off the main road that takes you directly to the heart of Santa Fe, the Econo Lodge Inn & Suites is managed and maintained by friendly staff who run a tight ship. My room was clean, although I think it could have probably done with a fresh coat of paint. The shelves in the bathroom were made of unfinished wood, which I thought was sort of odd as well. It seems like that would invite mildew situations to me. I was a little chilly, so I tried to turn on the heater in the room. Within seconds of switching it on, it smelled like burning and the smoke detector started beeping. Oops. I quickly turned it off, but I had to open the window to air out the burning smell. I told the woman at the desk the next morning and she said it was probably the first time it had been turned on this year. That was my thought also, but maybe the hotel should check the heaters throughout the year so this doesn't happen to other guests. It was also very easy to hear noise from the hallway. Perhaps that was just because people staying there at the same time I did were thundering down the hall and not being respectful of others, but the walls/doors seem a little thin I could hear people in the rooms next to mine walking around and using their sinks/hair dryers. On the plus side, the bed was very soft and I liked that the cable remote was provided, not just the remote to the TV itself. It felt more like being at home. I didn't partake in the free breakfast, just the coffee and ice cold orange juice. I don't feel like the problems I had were enough for me to not recommend this hotel to anyone. It was basic and no frills, but really, you're just there to sleep and take a shower. read more

I called around 1pm and asked if early check in was an option. The guy on the phone was flustered, said he'd call this number back and hung up. The early check in was not available. So, I asked if we it was at all possible to leave my bags at the desk while I went around town until the 3pm check in. They didn't have a spot for bags...that's fine but... Listen, I know this is an ECONOlodge and you get what you pay for. But don't bother here. I showed up around 330 to check in. There was no one at the desk. I rang the bell several times. I was waiting in the lobby for about 15 minutes when finally I had to call the front desk number to let someone know I was waiting there. I finally get checked in and lo and behold, I'm on the second floor and there is no elevator. The room was neat, but not clean. Hair on the floor, stained sheets, etc. but again, I know it's an Econolodge. The fact that they offer a (sparse) breakfast spread is nice though. Tip: do not look at the pool. read more

For this price range, this is an excellent hotel. The reviews are true, this place is clean, well-maintained and decorated, and a great bargain. I'm kind of a germ-phobe, and when I say clean, I mean no visible stains, dirt, or smells, and no ratty or worn-out furnishings. The bathroom was sparkling, the bed freshly laundered, and the carpet free of obvious debris. I stayed here one night, and it was hassle-free and restful. The man at the front desk was polite, attentive, and helpful, and my room was in great shape, with all the amenities I would expect, plus a few I would expect from a more expensive lodging (TV, WIFI, coffee-maker, iron + ironing board, closet + hangers, luggage rack, mini-fridge, microwave, cups + ice bucket, alarm clock, air conditioner/heat, shampoo and soap, table and chairs...). Curtains were not quite blackout calibre, unfortunately, and there were no sheer privacy drapes. There was a swimming pool, but it was not yet open in early April. I did not have any of the breakfast items advertised, so I can't say anything about those. Property felt safe and secure, with a clear view of the whole parking lot and a front door that auto-locks after ten. The WIFI situation seemed possibly sketchy, as I noticed someone messing with my internet connection while I browsed on my phone (which meant I didn't sign in to any accounts). My browser kept warning me of malicious redirects or insecure connections on familiar sites. I would stay here again, no hesitation. Great value for money! I just stayed there in Aug 2012 and it was a good stay at a great price (Priceline). Here's where I'm torn: the room was very clean and modern, it didn't smell, the bed was comfortable, the pool was nice, the manager was extremely helpful and friendly and it wasn't too far away from downtown. I just don't know why i can't give it 5 stars. It's my first time staying in a Rodeway and I can safely say it exceeded my expectations, especially given the low rate. I thought the bathroom could have been better. Small details like poor paint job, grout missing on the tile and lackluster water pressure in the shower probably are why this isn't a 5 star. The breakfast isn't much to brag about but there are too many good places to eat in town to waste it on a continental breakfast, anyways. read more
