You'd never know by the modest and somewhat dated exterior of this property, but this is a wonderful way station just off I-25 in Socorro. I booked a room for my partner and me based on some online reviews and the decent price, and we were both very happy with the choice. The room was the size of a studio apartment, with a spacious sitting area, a wet bar with mini-fridge, coffee maker, and TV facing it, a separate lighted vanity with marble countertop, enormous bedroom with a king bed, large-screen TV, sizeable desk and work area, closet space -- we could have made it our base for multiple nights, but we were on a schedule this trip and enjoyed the respite from travel. You'd pay three times this much for a similar room in a big-city hotel, not to mention having to add parking and tips. If looking for a room in Socorro, this place gets our enthusiastic thumbs up. read more

My wife and I are long time Marriott members and usually lean towards that brand but there was none in Socorro. So, after reading some good reviews here we decided to book a room here for several nights while were there to take pictures of birds down at the National Wildlife Refuge. We were totally surprised by what we found at this Econo Lodge! A clean and modern hotel room that must have been recently renovated as it all looked brand new inside. Our King bed was so comfortable and we liked that they had a small fridge with a freezer so we could freeze an ice pack for our cooler that we took to the park with lunch treats every day. The room was exceptionally large with plenty of room to move around and although we did not use it, there was a nice enclosed balcony on the back side of the room. The windows were all double glazed so we never heard traffic outside. We chose not to have daily room cleanup and just asked for some additional coffee packets when we needed them. I even spoke with the manager, he was so friendly and appreciative of our choosing to stay there. They do serve a breakfast but we were not there during those hours but what the offered looked good. The hotel is in a good location, only a half mile or so south of the northern exit from the freeway and right on California street. It is also convenient to the Walmart across the street. read more

I'm not sure what happened! After reading all of the positive reviews, I was prepared to be happy we booked here, not the case. Not sure if we were placed in the old part of the hotel, but our room and experience were nothing like the positive reviewers. The hotel was dirty, It appeared the outside carpets had not been vacuumed in weeks, as did the carpet in our room, the bathroom sink was plugged up and wouldn't drain, and the TV didn't work. The bathroom was extremely small. The TV issue was resolved, but not the sink. The deck outside our room had food/cups/etc left from the previous guest and, once again, the carpet was filthy. Granted, the bed was very comfy as were the pillows. We stayed for two nights and the housekeeper never visited our room. The (very loud and dated) AC took hours to cool the room and virtually ran all night. Very disappointing experience. read more

They have a very large number of rooms and a huge back lot that easily accommodated my car directly in front of our room and our truck hauling our RV. The room was huge and spotlessly clean. Our stay at the Econo Lodge in Socorro, New Mexico so far exceeded our expectations that I was compelled to share our experience with others. Located on the main strip, and across the street from a Walmart, it is a slightly rundown area. But the motel is taken care of like it's situated in an oasis. The room offers just what is needed for a restful stay. The bed feels newish and is extremely comfortable. The air-conditioning is user-controlled, so the temperature was cool for us after a long day of driving in high-90s weather. There is a desk to work or write on; a refrigerator and freezer, which we used to store dinner leftovers; a microwave; and a single coffee maker with regular and decaffeinated coffee pods, same for tea, and even hot chocolate. The room has a table and chairs is comfortable to play games, eat dinner, or share a morning coffee for two. The room is extremely clean. And the stay was extremely quiet. The latter two points amazed us, because the price point of the hotel is very economical, and as soon as you open the front door, you hear noise from the main strip, businesses on all sides, and residents talking loudly. It's a well-made hotel, but it is a little older. So, for example, I was challenged in taking a bath since the plug no longer stays shut. The WiFi buffers from time-to-time, when using your computer. And the television (DirectTV) didn't work - it was offline when we turned it on right before bed. The front desk agent was happy to send someone to the room to reset it. It was our decision to forgo it, because we were having a lovely quiet evening and didn't really need to watch TV. If we'd arrived a little early (and next time we stay here) we'll walk to the courtyard and sit on one of the beautifully appointed wrought iron patio loveseats, around a fountain and flowers, and enjoy some reading time. And don't miss the complimentary breakfast. The attendant who has a lovely, welcoming personality makes you eggs, bacon, sausage; there's individual bread wrapped in plastic wrap (so, like the cleanliness of the room, it is made to ensure your safety). There is granola and two other healthy cereal options, waffles, bagels and cream cheese, hard-boiled eggs, fresh coffee with liquid creamers, etc. It's tasty, convenient, and satisfying, and is included in the low price of the room. We can't recommend a motel more. We've stayed in so many, some as costly as $300 a night, and not had a better overall experience. read more

We reserved two rooms at the Econo Lodge in Socorro for one night for Thanksgiving. My daughter made her reservation by calling the hotel directly. She gave the receptionist her credit card information to reserve the room. We later found that her credit card information had been used to send a local resident money. I contacted the manager, Richard Torres to share this experience and his exact words were "there is nothing I can do. Call the police." I had additional information to share with him as I thought he would like to know if one of his employees is stealing from guests. He was very dismissive and unwilling to listen. His lack of concern for his guests will prevent us from staying there again. read more

We were in town for a family reunion and that was where we were told to stay. I have to be honest, I was worried. We have not stayed at a motel in years. We had several rooms and everyone was happy with the hotel. We stayed in an extra large room with a couch since we knew we would be entertaining family in all of our rooms. I was raised in Socorro NM & have been staying at this motel for 20 years. Never had any kind of issues except the red biting ants which are still there. Richard Torres called me 4 days into my stay and told me I had to leave due to the motel "being full because we have some big time guests paying big money coming". This was a Sunday night... if you are not familiar with Socorro please know this motel has never been fully booked and the population is extremely small. I was crying because I was there dealing with a family crisis and I'd hurt myself and couldn't move all of my luggage and dog. Richard Torres said "I can't give you my last room but I'll see what I can do". Called me back and said "I can give you my last room but it will be double price because of occupancy". I was absolutely devastated and desperate and took his offer. That evening I went to the office and spoke to Kaylie the front desk clerk. Inquired about availability and she said "we have plenty of rooms"... I also noticed there were maybe 4 cars in the entire lot... Just to confirm that I went online to look at availability, sure enough they had rooms priced at much lower than the $172.02 he charged me. I had been there for 4 nights at $81.01 a night. When I confronted Richard Torres with my camera asking him why he lied to me he called the cops and told me I was mentally ill. My attorney is now filing suit, I've spoken to corporate (Richard would not give me corporates phone number) and an investigation is launched. This is one of the most atrocious experiences I've had with a business. Do yourself a favor and stay far away. Even if you get a good rate the red biting ants are enough to hurt my dog and I didn't understand why I was breaking out in welts on my body. Went to the Dr and had taken pictures of the ants just to make sure that's what it was. STAY AWAY FROM ECONOLODGE but especially owner GM Richard Torres!!! read more

This accommodation exceeded my expectations! We needed a dog friendly room and this was such a great option. The grounds and room were both exceptionally clean. The breakfast area was also immaculate and had an amazing variety of items - including hot breakfast. The attendant was nice and helpful. In fact, every staff member was polite and helpful. Gina, the lady behind the counter told me to go back and wait to show her the rate, as she had quoted me $20 higher. TL;DNR Locked out of the room at 5:30 A.M. in cold weather. Date of stay: 11/29/21 The motel was clean and comfortable. The breakfast "scrambled eggs" were likely powdered eggs and a bit watered down. The waffle batter was also runny but they turned out fine. Since I'm a morning person and the gym was a free-standing building next to the pool I was hoping it would be open 24 hours and I thought I would be able to work out at 5:15 A.M. Unfortunately, it was not open. Even worse, my key card would not work to let me back into my room so I was locked outside in (sub?) freezing weather. The office was locked and it was supposed to open for breakfast at 5:30 so I went there to stay warm and wait for my wife to wake up. She's extremely hard of hearing and I did not want to pound on the door to try to wake her up but only end up waking the people in the room(s) next to ours. The breakfast attendant gave me another key card, but it too would not work. While waiting for the office to open I talked to another guest who said he too had problems with his key card. His eventually worked, so I tried again. Still no luck. The breakfast attendant called someone and the maintenance man also tried but failed to open the door. However, apparently his pounding, my wife said kicking, woke up my wife and she opened the door. She told him he had the wrong room. When the maintenance man came to the breakfast room I went back to the room with him. The key cards would still not work. Sure enough, our efforts disturbed the guests in the room next to ours. Fortunately, the efforts also roused my wife, who is NOT a morning person and she opened the door. It is likely the problem had something to do with the temperature because the room faces east and when we left around 7:30 to door lock had been warmed by the sun and all three key cards now worked. read more

Booked the Econo Lodge for two nights as I was needing a local place to crash after a few days of hiking and checking out the cranes that use the local area as their stopping point for winter migration. This isn't normally the type of hotel chain that I would choose but for the location and price I thought I would try them out. Glad I did because it was really a good choice. Make sure to request a room in the back. Road noise isn't an issue, there's not that much in town, but the block of rooms in the back of the property are setup villa style. Single story, parking right in front of your room and updated rooms that were very clean. The rooms in the front of the property are in a two story building which means quiet if you're on the top floor but you'll have to lug your bags up the stairs since I don't recall seeing a lift available. The room was clean, not a stray hair or dust bunny to be found. The bed was comfortable and the TV's worked well with lots of channels to have on in the background while getting ready in the morning. The bathroom sink is not found in the room with the tub and toilet which would work well if you have more than one person in the room. The entire room was separated off into 3 distinct areas, bedroom, bath area and the sitting room with couch and another TV, along with the fridge, coffee maker and lots of space to hold your personal belongings. Breakfast was in the front office. I was surprised with the choices they provided. The only hot food was the make fresh waffles but they had hard boiled eggs, plenty of yogurt options, breads, bagels, muffins and donuts. If I recall I saw a container with hot fresh oatmeal, as well as 3 or 4 choices of cereal. Coffee, juice and tea were available and there was an ice maker in the lobby area where I was able to make fresh iced tea without having to hunt down ice. Checking in was easy and check out was even simpler since credit card details were provided when I checked in. The best part of this hotel was actually their workout room. It was as good as the big gyms people pay big bucks to join. It even has a sauna which I'm sure few people know about. Every time I worked out I was the only one in the building. A few extra notes: They have an outdoor pool, not too large but enough to get a quick cool down from a day of hiking. I was way too cold in Jan for me to use it but I did have to pass it walking to the gym. Parking is aplenty. For people with big recreational vehicles I would suggest going to the far back lot. There's plenty of room back there as I saw plenty of huge work trucks back there while I stayed there. Walmart and Subway are directly across the street from the hotel and right next door is a 24 hour dinner which always seemed to have big crowds as their parking lot was always full. When in the area, or just needing a place to stop mid way between El Paso and Albuquerque call Eco Lodge for a reservation. You'll definitely get your monies worth here. read more

Love this motel.. Paid 65.00 plus tax for our one night stay. All no smoking!!! I love that. Bed was comfortable, nice shower, plenty of hot water. Towels smelled clean and fresh. Not a new motel but very well maintained. All staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good. Bisquits and gravy, oj, coffee, waffles, fruit... I didn't end up staying here, but had a terrible ordeal trying to cancel my reservation. I had accidentally booked through a 3rd party by not reading the web address well enough and when I had to cancel, the 3rd party said they would offer a full refund if the hotel manager would email them saying that everything was cancelled and refunded on their end. Manager Richard Torres was rude, short, unhelpful, and constantly belittled and interrupted me. When asked to simply send the email off, he point blank refused and said he didn't have time, and hung up on me. He's reduced me to tears more than once over this. I don't know if this is a nice place to stay, but if you encounter any problems, management will not be on your side. read more

Show up to book and front desk was extremely rude. Wouldn't help fix the rates so had to book online anyway while standing right in front of them. Stayed in room 101, it had a gross smell and came with friends, ROACHES! I was only able to get one video of them but saw at least three. Last time I stayed here it was very pleasant, room was nice and new, employees were great. Not sure what happened in the last couple months. This room is GOD AWFUL, feels like a crackhead motel. Will definitely never come back here and emailing the company! This place is a dump and this stay was absolutely disgusting. read more

My hiking partner and I are doing the 800 mile Grand Enchantment trail and hitched to Socorro from a smaller nearby town to resupply and take a day off. We felt a little overwhelmed between the hotel options in town, but we definitely hit the mark with this one. The front counter attendant was very friendly and navigated the system nicely, especially after letting us know this was only her second week. The room was very clean and had laminated fake hardwood floors, comfortable beds, great water pressure, a new flat screen TV, powerful air conditions, and lots of space. I just came back from their complementary breakfast where I left feeling full and happy with all of the options. I can tell this hotel is well cared for and the bar is set high for cleanliness and organization. There's also free, strong, wifi and a pool. It's also central to all of the restaurants and amenities in town. My only suggestion would be to get a laundry room on sight for those traveling :) read more

The room was very nice. But arrived late and parked in platinum space by office. A convertible pulled in with two men beside me as I wet in to register. I came out and they were both passed out. There were other cars cruising past So I quickly drove to the room around back. It was very late, and I had been dealing with car troubles so was lucky to get to a motel at all or I would have left. In the town of Socorro I can't imagine any five star motel so this is about as good as it gets. It was a great value and a huge room with refrigerator and microwave. Make sure to ask for a room in the back as they are new and improved over the original building and very quiet with little or no extraneous noise. We could just barely hear the shower in the next room. I've been to Socorro every year for the last four years and have not found a motel worth returning to... UNTIL NOW! I'll come back to this motel again. I go in the winter to photograph the cranes and get on the road around 6am to beat the sunrise. This place had a continental breakfast that opened at 5:30 on weekdays and 6:00 on weekends! The things that I took advantage of were waffles, oatmeal, eggs, bananas and coffee. They had muffins and cereals as well. We had a room with a king size bed and there was enough room that there was a lounge chair, a work-desk and chair and a dining table with two chairs. They charge $5/day extra for pets and are very pet friendly. I have two minor suggestions to make the motel even better: 1, bigger, more absorbent towels and; 2, thicker blankets or a better way to regulate the heat in the room. read more

This place doesn't even deserve one star. Save your money and go somewhere else. We booked our room on July 3rd for the next day but when we arrived at 3am there was no one there and the doors were locked. There was an envelope on the door with another customers key saying "sorry we missed you, come to the office in the morning" We called the number for emergencies on the door multiple times and waited almost 2 hours before we could get ahold of the manager. When we finally did, however, he was asleep and we woke him up, he didn't apologize for us having to wait! At this point we didn't want to stay there, we had already rested up -in our car with our daughter also - and wanted to get back on the road. The manager, Richard Torres, was very rude when we asked for our money back and to cancel the room, stating that we must cancel within 90 days. He told us to leave when we started asking him How is that possible and said that we wouldn't get a refund, and that we needed to leave, We booked it the day before! He continued to refuse a refund, and said that they were closed and it's not his fault, How can they be closed, it's a hotel?! At this point we started video recording the conversation and called the police to get our money back. I realize that you get what you pay for so we weren't expecting it to be clean and fancy, but we DID expect someone to be there, and with good customer service skills. Very nice room for the price. I stayed in one of the back rooms and it was quiet, clean, well equipped and comfortable. Great water pressure, firm bed, plenty of pillows, thick towels and a separate living area. The veiw of the mountains was obstructed by a concrete wall and the area within was a dirt lot. Some landscaping and/ or murals on the wall could help make the outside look more inviting and comfortable. The "deluxe" breakfast was far from deluxe. Small, packaged pastries, cold cereal, overly hard boiled eggs and a waffle maker are the choices. Luckily, in the same parking lot, there is a nice breakfast place that is open 24 hours. read more

This is a really great place for the money. We were just looking for an overnight stay and didn't need a lot of frills. It started off great with booking my room with Tommie, he was polite and friendly. I asked at the time of booking the room if paying cash if I could get my deposit back between the times of 4:00 & 5:00 am, as I needed to leave for work that early. I was assured that this would not be a problem. 4:30am came and I went down to check out and the door was locked and the cook came and opened the door but explained that she couldn't get my deposit because she didn't have access to the safe. She asked me to call the number on the door, which I did and an automated voice said that the phone number didn't accept calls. I asked the cook to call the general manager, Richard, and after SEVERAL attempts he finally answered his phone and said he'd be in shortly. He wasn't. When he finally came in he yelled at me saying I better F***ing pay with a card next time, grabbed my deposit from the safe and threw it towards me. Worst service by a general manager ever. If he doesn't want to be bothered, then he should hire someone to man the the desk at all times like most other hotels. The restaurant next door has great breakfast! read more

The only reason they get a star is because their rooms are decent enough to stay in ... every time I stay there I have issues .. my first stay I had about $200 missing from my luggage.. this last time they made so many errors with my reservation .. they did not give me the room I reserved months prior and bumped my rate last minute because it was their high season ..I had maintain enough in that room several times as the sink was clogged n toilet too .. I got extremely sick because those ac units are never cleaned .... there's also issues with roaches, spiders and bats ... when u call the people in the front desk they are extremely rude .. mainly The head guy there... last but not least ... if u all pay with a card check ur statements even a few months after your visit .. They charged my card even though I paid cash when I checked out ... they need new management ..! read more

We have tried many other places to stay over the years but this one is definitely at the top of the reasonably priced list. Our room was very clean and pretty quiet for a motel. We had a room near the back which was very quiet, and clean. We just came from a family reunion in Socorro and stayed here for 2 nights. The staff here are super friendly and the grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The room was very clean and well insulated, could not even hear my sister showering at some ungodly time in the early am. There was a beautiful view of the mountains right outside the room. Tonya helped us so much after we had a horrible experience at a hotel down the road(americas best) Service was friendly, rooms were so very clean (she showed me the room before I booked it, the hotel down the road rented us a room and when we opened the door the tv was on and beds were a mess and people in there... then gave us a second room where the bathroom was disgusting and stains on the sheets. Curtains falling down... It was called Americas best.... That place was total nightmare!!! ) This place was just a dream and the rates were fantastic!!!
