I went to Magdalena for a project. The High Country Lodge was a great place for our meetings. I highly recommend it :)

The rooms were clean, comfortable, and spacious. They had a continental breakfast in the morning. It has the usual good stuff where you make your own waffles and have sausage, scrambled egg and fruit. They also suggested a couple of nearby restaurants for both breakfast and supper. I have to say I was very pleased that the attention the staff made to making sure breakfast food was hot, plentiful and available.I always tip the breakfast person and housekeeping, It's an old school way of thinking and I hope you as travelers will consider adopting it. The room had all the space I needed and in a Mini refrigerator microwave and coffee maker. Everything was working just fine and very clean as I said, I was impressed with the staff and their willingness to try to help me in any way that they could. The hotel was great and made for relaxing two night stay. They also have laundry machines on every floor.

The staff is always friendly and building is well kept. It's near almost all of the restaurants and they are within walking distance. So is Walmart if you need some supplies. Breakfast starts at 6am through the week and 7am on the weekends. Be advised it can be hard to get rooms if you are staying for extended stays. Try to book way in advance.

We decided to put a few more miles behind us before stopping for the evening and found this place…read moreon booking.com. The first thing I found fascinating was the fact whoever decided to build this place wasn't even thinking about what you'd be seeing out your windows. They faced all the rooms to the north and south while this place had beautiful mountains both east and west. Hmmm, bad planning - but guess I was really staying here for the bed not the views. It was a basic clean hotel. The front staff was helpful and pleasant. The pool area was very clean and the water was crystal clear. There was also a very large sauna and clean pool towels located in the pool room. There was a laundry room which was clean. Our room was fresh with clean lines, 4 soft pillows per bed, and clean carpets. The bathroom was one of the cleanest bathrooms I've had on this road trip. The WIFI was a little slow, but still worked. The air-conditioner worked, but made this awful noise when starting up which a bit annoying while I was trying to sleep. Overall I think this place is a good value for the price you pay. It was less than 90/night and at that price one the best place I've stayed in so far.

I've seen this before, but ew. Just EW! AIRBORNE! Next, they propped up the poorly engineered "floating" vanity in the bathroom with....2X4s. "Hey Homer! This thing is going to land on someone's foot! Maybe buy half rounds, paint 'em and make a minimal effort? Nah. Throw in a couple 2x4s !" Last, I tried to print boarding passes in the teensy business center. Nada. I mentioned that it might need INK. I went back next day. They unplugged it. I plugged it in. It printed a partial from someone earlier but refused to print anything else. Husband stayed here a month ago. He said it was broken then. I probably would have forgiven 2 out of those 3 since it was clean, safe and had a decent breakfast - but it wasn't that cheap - and 2X4s??

Both she and I went in in person to discuss this with the front desk. Yet, the night before the wedding, there were a group of our groomsmen left to try to negotiate with the front desk. The front desk insisted they could not put it on a card with someone's else's name, though this had been pre-arranged and the HI manager/staff never once mentioned that before. They insisted on getting credit cards from different people for each room. The next day, my mother in law had to go in to confirm once again that she wanted the rooms on her card (and give them a piece of her mind). We all agreed this must have been the most business ever done by this Holiday Inn and, unless they improve their management, I don't see them contiuing to get much more. (And, for the record, the guests who did get rooms and manage to stay without getting hassled, said the rooms were quite nice for the price.)

Big bathroom, nice work area, nice TV with regular Direct TV (no trapware). and a quiet heater. 2 pillows for each sleeping spot, one labeled soft one labeled firm. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast was great - cinnamon rolls, pancakes, eggs, muffins, cereal, juice, good coffee, sausage, ham, and hard boiled eggs. All free. Only complaint was the shower head. Lots of hot water but it was an adjustable head with 3 flow patterns, too hard, too soft, and WAY too soft. Small complaint though.

I booked a room for my partner and me based on some online reviews and the decent price, and we were both very happy with the choice. The room was the size of a studio apartment, with a spacious sitting area, a wet bar with mini-fridge, coffee maker, and TV facing it, a separate lighted vanity with marble countertop, enormous bedroom with a king bed, large-screen TV, sizeable desk and work area, closet space -- we could have made it our base for multiple nights, but we were on a schedule this trip and enjoyed the respite from travel. You'd pay three times this much for a similar room in a big-city hotel, not to mention having to add parking and tips. If looking for a room in Socorro, this place gets our enthusiastic thumbs up.

So, after reading some good reviews here we decided to book a room here for several nights while were there to take pictures of birds down at the National Wildlife Refuge. We were totally surprised by what we found at this Econo Lodge! A clean and modern hotel room that must have been recently renovated as it all looked brand new inside. Our King bed was so comfortable and we liked that they had a small fridge with a freezer so we could freeze an ice pack for our cooler that we took to the park with lunch treats every day. The room was exceptionally large with plenty of room to move around and although we did not use it, there was a nice enclosed balcony on the back side of the room. The windows were all double glazed so we never heard traffic outside. We chose not to have daily room cleanup and just asked for some additional coffee packets when we needed them. I even spoke with the manager, he was so friendly and appreciative of our choosing to stay there. They do serve a breakfast but we were not there during those hours but what the offered looked good. The hotel is in a good location, only a half mile or so south of the northern exit from the freeway and right on California street. It is also convenient to the Walmart across the street.
