My son is right between sizes, so we asked if they could size him so we had a better idea of what would work best. We were told that there were sizing tools at most benches and to ask for help if we needed it. Dude. That is what we are doing. He walked off before the shock wore off. We did find a tool, sized my son, then found another employee for shoes in his size. He pushed a few buttons on a handheld he had and told us they didn't have it in stock then started to walk away. We stopped him and asked for another shoe in his size. Again he pushed buttons on his handheld with the same answer. He again tried to walk away. So we then asked if any shoe on the table we were looking at came in his size. He rolled his eyes at us before pushing buttons on his handheld. Yup. Rolled. His. Eyes. My son needed new shoes so just looked at shoes instead of using my big girl words about that behavior. Anyway... He found a shoe in my son's size and luckily my son liked them. We boxed up the shoes and went to the counter in the shoe area where two different employees were talking to pay. Set the box down and said we wanted the shoes. They both look at us like we are crazy before one stated "well, you have to pay for them before leaving with them." Pretty sure my attitude came out when I responded with "that is why my wallet is out." With just as much snark, we were told we have to pay up front. The experience had my blood boiling. We were there maybe 25 minutes, but it took almost twice as long for me to calm down. So if you come here, hopefully you have a better experience than we did. 29.01.2026

If you are in a pinch and desperate for a glove or ball or t-shirt, even a bike or kayak, go to Dick's, just know you will be spending a lot of money you shouldn't for something you can find elsewhere if you give yourself time to shop. They do have a lot of staff walking around, but their goal seems to be customer advoidence. So there is that if you expect you will need some help.

I buy ALL our waterproof/down/ UV resistant / breathable summer and winter clothing and comfort footwear (urban city and rugged outdoors) for the entire family from REI. My Seattle born father climbed the Cascades and Tetons and took us camping hiking canoeing in New York's beautiful Adirondacks each year then cross country to Bryce, Zion, the Tetons, northern rim of the Grand Canyon, Black Hills, Mesa Verde, Monument Valley 60 years ago. I hitchhiked at age 20 with friends from San Francisco to Vancouver with a 70 lb backpack then took the Canadian National train ( now gone )via Jasper all the way to above Detroit. What is especially fabulous about REI's HUGE selection of products ( online) is the top TOP quality of new innovative materials, deep thought/care in manufacture by many of these once tiny companies, and outstanding long long wear and durability. Washing cleaning all these items is easy thanks to their excellent cleaning products. REI, a Co-operative, has not sacrificed resourcing the very best quality they can locate. They have not become a "mass marketer" like once excellent LL Bean. Instead REI relies very heavily upon their hundreds of consumer product reviews ( which I meticulously read before any purchase). REI genuinely LISTENS to their consumer base!! AND!!! Their online frequent sales, some short unexpected, are legendary! I did 70% of all my Xmas shopping at REI - - great stocking stuffers too. I became addicted to their 10 grams of protein ProBars 20 years ago- - a must have for all my trips. Enjoy!

TL;DR Managment/ownership treats customers and employees terribly, would not spend money here…read more Repeat bad experiences, I'd rather buy online than go back in this store. As an avid adventurer of the western US, I tend to visit outdoor stores wherever I travel to see what their idea of adventure is there and take the chance to upgrade gear that's frustrating to use or worn out over time. I've visited Bill Jackson's on two separate occasions now, heading in each time with about $500 worth of gear in mind to shop for. The first time I came, I got great help from multiple associates and planned to purchase gear off of their advise, but witnessed a confrontation between management and an associate that I recall as mild but disruptive enough it made me leave the store without buying anything. I didn't come back for about 8 months. Now I'm back in town for a few weeks of work before heading on a 2,700 mile bikepacking journey and really needed to grab a few items I hoped they'd have in stock. Being interesting in all outdoor activities, I started talking with an associate about the ski shop they were building the last time I was here. He keyed in that I had ski knowledge from my time tuning skis and custom fitting ski boots out west and started talking to me about part time work as they expected to need some extra hands with ski knowledge and took me to show me their ski selection. To get there, we had to walk through an area that he explained was sectioned off for an upcoming sale, so not yet available, but the necessary route to the still-open ski shop. He made a pretty good case for their ski shop and my wheels were turning about coming to help them out in the fall. On our way back through the sale area, I asked a question about the items we were walking past and the associate was very clear that those items were not available for sale until the official sale start date, but took the opportunity to educate me about them(I knew very little about diving equipment but am curious to learn). I was quickly convinced that a decent snorkeling kit was necessary equipment to enjoy the area and decided I'd get a setup. Before he got a chance to redirect me to where the currently available snorkeling gear was(I could tell it was coming, this area was also tiny compared to the sale area), an angry manager/owner appeared ready to tear apart the kind and helpful associate that had just taught me what I needed to know to spend an extra couple hundred dollars on top of the items I was already planning. I hurriedly left the area while she continued to holler at me and once I passed the threshold of that room I heard her resume berating the associate in anger. I walked myself over to the full price scuba stuff and found another helpful associate, but I could not bring myself to buy anything from this store after that experience. It was not unreasonable for her to ask us to move along since we had stopped in a place we were meant to pass through, but she was incredibly rude to the associate for going above and beyond to take care of an enthusiastic customer. I won't spend money here, that manager is the most unkind person I've encountered since I've been in Tampa. In a town of incredibly kind people, there is no place for that. Very sad, I really wanted to like this store. The associates seem to be knowledgeable and passionate about the outdoors, but they don't deserve to be treated that way.

I had a flat tire and was told it would take at least 7 days to fix and maybe more because I had the service plan and to contact the company to cover the repair may take longer. This is a complaint and warning about Dick's Sporting Goods in Sarasota Florida. I was…read moreunfortunately misled into purchasing a product that is not legal in the league where I play and, when I returned it, would not be accepted for a refund or credit toward the purchase of a legal product. Just to get me out of the store, they suggested that I reach out to the manufacturer and ask them to facilitate the exchange. I was incredulous, of course, because one would never expect a manufacturer to facilitate the exchange of a product that was sold through either misguided or self-serving misrepresentation by one of its retailers. Indeed, I just heard back from the manufacturer who said that they will only exchange a bat with the defects. I am not even going to bother to take this back to Dick's because I know I would get upset and nobody wants to get upset about being ripped off when they're holding a baseball bat. The product I am referring to is a softball bat for the Senior League of Sarasota. When I explained what I needed and what league I was in, Dick's employee told me to buy a senior softball bat that is a certified 1.20. When I got to the first game in the league, I was told the bat needed to be a 1.21. When I returned to Dick's with proof of purchase and the bat in perfectly good shape (virtually unused) they would not issue a refund or credit. They said they would not do so because the wrapper had been removed and yet several bats were for sale on the rack without wrappers. The bat that I have is no use to me. I have since learned through an internet chat on the Dicks website that Dick's does not even carry the type of bat that I want, which certainly adds to the suspicion that the sale was made so the guy would get a commission or some kind of sales credit rather than send me empty handed to another store. I have been a long-time customer of Dick's and had even bought another product at the same time as I bought the bat. We often shopped for clothes. Now I'm going to give the brand new bat to Goodwill, spend $100 or more on the type bat that is legal for our league, and suffer the $89 loss that Dick's has foisted upon me. I had always Associated the retail chain with good customer service, a nice product selection, and a sufficient level of quality and service expertise, as well as product selection, that the higher prices are worth it. It goes without saying that I will never shop there again and I have spent the time, plus $89, to write this negative review and warning to you. If you trust them to give you informed service, to be accountable for their mistakes, and to stand behind you economically when you are counting on them, your trust is not well placed with Dick's Sporting Goods, at least not in Sarasota. Good luck with your sports shopping, Charles Reith
