I waited inside the car for 6 hours constantly updating my phone. I called them constantly and they kept redirecting me or telling me lies or getting disconnected. I called about 10 tow places in Oakland and none of them were available. I called ZR towing and he picked up right away. It was 5am when I called and he was able to meet me in 10-15 minutes! Fastest response ever! He was super helpful and got my car to a body shop in the middle of the morning that is also Subaru Certified!! Called again, she said please hold, put me on hold. I decided I'd wait to call another company the next day, because the shop I was bringing the car to was closing. (I called 6 hours before the shop closing time.) A guy shows up, leaving just enough time to hook up my car. Luckily the tires were slow leaks so the drivers idea to pump them before towing worked...Not sure what was going to happen if they were blowouts (the person on the phone didn't ask.) It worked but I wasn't a fan of the communication and delay without notice.

Around midnight, my front driver's side tire failed while I was driving home. I called for roadside assistance through the Geico app, which routed me to Mick's Towing in Berkeley and instructed me to stay with my vehicle. I was broken down in an isolated area of East Oakland, and while I waited, several strangers approached my car, at times trying to get in, at times harassing me. When the tow driver finally arrived, he put his dispatcher on speakerphone, who told me I needed to pay $60 up front, either cash or by reading off my credit card number, before any service would be provided. Because I'd recently moved, I didn't have my physical wallet on me, only Apple Pay and Zelle. When I explained this and asked what would happen if I couldn't pay that way, the dispatcher told me flatly: "No money, no service. We'll go home." No clarify, my insurance said this was NOT policy and that they would be reviewing the vendor relationship with Micki's Towing. I had no idea that not having a physical card in hand could mean forfeiting roadside assistance altogether, the exact service I pay for to protect me in situations like this one. Being stranded, alone, at night, in an area where I did not feel safe, and then being told I'd be left there over a payment method technicality is not the experience I expect from a service I'm counting on for my safety. When I was finally able to call a friend to read her card number over the phone, the technician finally loaded my car onto the truck. I didn't think having car insurance meant that I'd be held up by my service provider before a rescue. 0/10 can't recommend and I'll be submitting my report to the Better Business Bureau.
