Following the recommendation from my Airbnb hosts, I was here for weeknight dinner. It's a local…read morebut it's quite large with big "function rooms" in the back and a large seating area in the front plus a long bar. I seated myself at a comfortable table where my drink order was taken. Not at all busy this evening but attentive staff and low music. The keg for my beer kicked while it was pouring and the bartender apologized. As you can see in the photo, it's still just a hair under a proper pint but as much as I'd find in an American pint. I'm okay with that. For dinner, I chose the Lamb Hot Pot. (The chicken curry is also a good choice as it smelled heavenly as it went by to another table.) A big iron pot topped with melted cheese, underneath a hot stew that was more lamb than anything else. Tasty, rich, delicious and a big portion. Meanwhile, I sat with the laptop connected to their wifi. A second beer was consumed before I wandered back to my Airbnb with a full belly. A very bad experience. We had booked a table in a nearby restaurant and went an hour early to have…read morea G&T before dinner. I spend 10 minutes at the bar trying to get the attention of the staff. I was just ignored. I got the impression that the staff were on a 'work to rule' as they kept moving around and making no eye contact (they were not serving anyone). Clearly there was an industrial relations issue. I would avoid this pub, it needs a new manager.

We asked the driver for a lunch recommendation and he suggested Nancy Hands. It was a good recommendation. It was close to a stop so we hopped off and had lunch. The restrauant is very neat with a cool vibe. We arrived about 1 p.m. and had to sit at the bar for about ten minutes for a table to open up. The restrauant is not on the tourist path (think Temple Bar area). We may have been the only non-Irish in the restrauant. It is rich in history and has a traditional Irsh look and feel. We ordered a couple of beers. Jan ordered a Blue Moon and I ordered a Carlsberg Pilsner. The beer on tap selection is impressive. For lunch we ordered a couple of items to share. Jan picked fish and chips, I selected calamari. Both were good and we enjoyed our first meal in Dublin. The service was good, the prices moderate. Definitely recommend it is you want a restrauant/pub that's not full of Americans.

Nice, quiet pub with good food. The staff is very friendly and checked on me frequently. I had the Guinness beef stew & it was some of the best I had on my whole trip. They served it with a generous portion of mashed potatoes down in the stew gravy so you can enjoy both with every bite. I definitely recommend giving this place a try especially if you want to get away from the louder pubs and just enjoy your meal.
