We enjoyed our lunch here. I really liked the music that was playing. I asked the server; he kindly checked and told me it is a Spotify playlist called "Irish Drinking Songs". I got the seafood chowder; it was tasty. My daughter got the Smashburger but confessed to me she felt guilty about ordering a burger in Ireland since we had just arrived here from the USA yesterday. She was pleased to report that it tasted a lot different from the typical American burger and she was glad she had ordered it. The other members of our group also enjoyed their burgers and mushroom burger; the only complaint being that they were "messy". So I guess if messy is a big concern of yours you might want to be careful about ordering that. Arrived Dublin from the States about 8:30 a.m. checked our bags at the hotel and got on the hop on - hop off bus. We asked the driver for a lunch recommendation and he suggested Nancy Hands. It was a good recommendation. It was close to a stop so we hopped off and had lunch. The restrauant is very neat with a cool vibe. We arrived about 1 p.m. and had to sit at the bar for about ten minutes for a table to open up. The restrauant is not on the tourist path (think Temple Bar area). We may have been the only non-Irish in the restrauant. It is rich in history and has a traditional Irsh look and feel. We ordered a couple of beers. Jan ordered a Blue Moon and I ordered a Carlsberg Pilsner. The beer on tap selection is impressive. For lunch we ordered a couple of items to share. Jan picked fish and chips, I selected calamari. Both were good and we enjoyed our first meal in Dublin. The service was good, the prices moderate. Definitely recommend it is you want a restrauant/pub that's not full of Americans. read more

Our visit to the Nancy Hands Pub was met with real disappointment. It was our first night in Ireland and Dublin. We heard good things about the establishment on the HoHo Bus, positive comments from the Ashling Hotel doorman. It was so attractive and that is where it ended. We were 5 adults and only one found his meal satisfactory. My fish was greasy and the individual who had the stew said that the protein was hamburger - definitely not an Irish stew. The server who sat us was less than receptive. The building is nice with lots of antique furniture. They do pour a good Guinness but this is not a place to eat. Nice, quiet pub with good food. The staff is very friendly and checked on me frequently. I went around 4pm and it was relatively quiet with a few people in the restaurant side (separate beer garden if you're just drinking). I had the Guinness beef stew & it was some of the best I had on my whole trip. They served it with a generous portion of mashed potatoes down in the stew gravy so you can enjoy both with every bite. I definitely recommend giving this place a try especially if you want to get away from the louder pubs and just enjoy your meal. read more

This place had some of the best food I have had in Dublin. It's easy to access from the bus and light rail. They have extensive drink selection along with the best menu variety I've seen in Ireland. I came here with my tour group for dinner on our first day in Ireland and it was pretty good for being one of my first meals in the country. The restaurant is really cool with lots of decor and art on the walls. Really fun to look around at everything. The service was good! They were friendly and quick. I ordered a cider, whatever they had on tap, and it was sooo tasty. It went well with the meal. For my entree I had the Irish beef stew and it was pretty good. It was a little salty for my taste but the dish was still yummy. For dessert I had a trio of little cakes! It was delicious and I liked the plating. My first meal in Ireland was a good option! The Irish Stew I had was plentiful and the mashed potato was delicious. Normally I do not eat mashed potatoes outside of the home, but this one was fresh, despite its heaviness. The gravy was great and it was a simple dish that worked well through and through. Hearing some American music throughout was a nice touch of home. Funny to hear in a foreign country, but it worked. Ask to hear the story about how the restaurant got its name. We are big into trying the first, oldest, something noteworthy places where we travel. Very glad we had the chance to pop in here! The restaurant is inviting and attractive from the outside, and it's so much larger inside than you would expect! It's decorated with old photos and bar items. The bathrooms left a bit to be desired, but worked well enough. Service was also a bit hit and miss. A gentleman with zero personality sat us and took our drink order, while a sassy blonde took our food order and definitely had some zing to her. We had 2 pints and split the fish and chips. Shepard's pie was dry and more mashed than lamb with plain no-butter peas. Bar service was better than table service. Asked what kind of water I wanted and it never came. Some tables got a caddy of sauces and others didn't. Sat outside and a homeless woman sat besides me eating something she'd found. We stayed at the Ashling Hotel about a block away, the tour bus driver mentioned Nancy Hands and we decided to try it. We went the first time on April 28th, the eve of my 60th birthday. They had stopped serving food at 9pm, so we decided to have a couple pints and relax. Lee served us Guinness and we all talked for a bit, we also met Clare who is one of the servers, 2 really nice people, we spent about 3 hours there, just talking and drinking, such a great atmosphere and experience. The only reason we stopped here was because it was a stop along the way for the Hop On Hop Off bus tour that was part of the Dublin City Pass and the pass entitled us to a free Guinness. If it weren't for that, I probably would have never stopped here. The joint was cool, and similar to many of the Irish pubs we visited, but a little more bare boned. Granted, it was early afternoon, but the place was empty, and the bartender was nowhere to be found. He finally appeared from a cob webbed corner somewhere and asked what our pleasure was. We told him we were fresh off the bus and we were there to redeem our tickets for the free Guinness. Unfortunately, the free Guinness offer was only valid for a half pint. We elected for the full pint and paid the difference. The barkeep was very friendly, but it took a good 10 minutes to receive our pints (we were in a hurry because we were waiting for the next bus). All in all, it was a friendly place, just kind of dead, and really slow. I guess it's still worth a half price pint of Guinness though. read more

Just a short walk from our hotel, Ashling, and recommended by our taxi driver. The ambiance is truly Irish pub with live music and friendly patrons. My salmon was delicious and hubby enjoyed his Guinness pie. The service was a bit slow in the beginning but improved once we were able to flag down a server. I loved everything about this restaurant! First of all the building is just gorgeous with so much history behind each piece of furniture and art hanging up. The waiters and waitresses were very kind and helpful and the food was excellent. We had the owner, Dominique, come out and talk with us about the history of the building and original owner. Nancy was the first woman in Ireland to own a bar! He explained how she got around selling beer on Sundays by just putting her hands outside the bar to give out the beer-hence the name. For my dinner, I started off with the parsnip and carrot soup and I wouldn't have minded having several more servings:) For my main entree I had a vegetarian Mediterranean pasta dish that I ate every last bite of. Everyone at my table was happy with their meals. They had pork ribs, mushroom and chicken pasta and the fish and they were all pleased. For dessert I had a variety of sweets-an apple pie square, a cream puff and some other sweet all centered around a delicious fruit ( like a gooseberry). We came here back in May. This place was within walking distance from our hotel (Ashling) and the receptionist recommended it. The ambience was nice and very much what you would imagine in Ireland. Brick walls, fireplace, dimly lit, etc. It was nice and cozy. I ordered a cheese platter and Guinness. The platter came with 6 very thick pieces of cheese, grapes, crackers, and a type of jam.
