The customer service is non existent if the plant and fish shipment is being unloaded. If they aren't busy and you want something they make you walk over and pull a ticket and wait for your number to be called. I was there today and it wasn't busy, but the shipment was being unloaded. I pulled my ticket but no one was calling out numbers. I finally asked a woman for help but she said "I don't work here but I'll let them know". At that point I just left. I've been ignored there for 25 years going back to the old Latham location. One positive experience I had was a few years ago. They had species plant I wanted but there was only a couple left. The salesman informed me that they had some that were yet to be unpacked in the back room. Long story short he was reprimanded for selling plants that weren't yet in the display case (in front of me while I was checking out). That ruined the experience and made me feel I did something wrong. So I guess I never had a positive experience, I just witnessed someone going above and beyond being treated like trash. It's sad to say, but I'm actually happier walking in and not seeing anything I want to buy. The stressful part is seeing something I want and having to jump through hoops to get someone's attention and get service. As a marine biologist, during a recent visit my husband and I were disappointed to see Eddie's Aquarium Centre housing incompatible species together -- for example, Flagtail Porthole Catfish (Dianema urostriatum), Kribensis Cichlids (Pelvicachromis pulcher), Butterfly Plecos (Dekeyseria sp.), and Congo Tetras (Phenacogrammus interruptus) in the same tank. These fish require different water parameters and have very different temperaments, which creates stress and weakens their immune systems. Stressed fish are far more likely to develop ich (Ichthyophthirius multifiliis, or "white spot disease"), and once one fish is infected, the entire tank is at risk. Since the days they were located by the Latham circle ive loved eddies. I go for my home aquarium, pond and water garden. I hope the past two experiences are covid related. The owner is usually always around, that wasn't the case the past two visits. Tanks are always beautiful and fish have pretty natural aquas capes and aren't stressed. This visit the store was a mess, the tanks were a mess and there were multiple tanks of very stressed fish. We were overcharged $15, they corrected it but we didn't realize until we left and had to come back. Over $80 in fish and everything is dying. 4 out of 5 Amano Shrimp, 1 octo plexiglass , 1 out of 3 nertile snails and a plant so far. All of our levels are perfect. I've never had them so perfect in all my years of tank keeping so this is extremely frustrating. Before the owner was always around no matter what time. It took us about an hour this trip and it was only young employees. I never minded taking the extra time or paying almost double the price because we were supporting a small local business who cared about their animals. After calling and explaining that everything was dying and my levels were all in great range I was told it's basically my tank and I could purchase more that are iMaybe it's covid, maybe it's just a loss of passion but we likely won't return anymore. Fish are not healthy! I bring them home and within a week or two they die. I have kept buying from them multiple times but the fish never survive even though my tanks water quality is great along with the other fish which are compatible and healthy. Fish are great but the cust service sucks. Had a very bad experience there. I had 2 fish on the counter was about to be rung up, and a cust of theirs comes in and I guess a large order to load in his car. The guy was about to ring me up. In a snotty voice he informs me that I will have to wait a minute. 35 minutes later he comes back to ring me up. I ended up not buying them and let him know how I felt, he told me I was more of a Petsmart customer and I should not return. Well 4 years and I have gone from 1 tank to 20, have not spent a dime in their store and have used word of mouth against them. I get it big money customers are cherished but 35 F'ing minutes.. This place is amazing! It's a fish wonderland. They have a great selection of fish, live plants, tanks, and all the supplies needed. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. I was debating about a few different invertebrates to add to my tank, the guy that helped me out told me all about the ones I was considering and how the blue lobster probably wouldn't be a great choice. I ended up going with 3 shrimp, Bubba, Lt. Dan, and Jenny. I also like how they have their fish separated by aggression levels. The only good thing of this place is that they have many kind of fish. And let me tell you why I only give them 2 stars, should have been 1 star only but thing is done, my madness is cold down, so now I just wanna write something to let people know this place isn't as good as it looks. Their fishes are sick, you will regret if you don't look closer before you buy. It's happening to me with my $130 grade A flower horn. This place isn't that professional as it support to be. When I asked a guy to get the fish that I wanna buy, suddenly he brought 2 SMALL CONTAINERS . He used one to get some of the tank water, the other one he used to catch the fish. After a couple minutes chasing the fish, he finally got it, by the time he got the fish, it freaked out, it's stressed. Poor little fish. At that time, I thought it should been so so much easier and safer if the guy used a net to catch the fish. The employees is very unhelpful, no greeting their customers at all. All of them just stranded in the little office and talked to each other, ignored to their customers. If I were them, I would have going around, greeting the customers, asking if the customers needed helps. Anyway, I'm just giving my thought about this place. I really enjoy coming here although it is kind of out of the way for me and I am comparing this place to Benson's Pet Center for most of my review. I started a salwater tank two months ago and I wish I knew this place existed before I bought some of my supplies at Benson's Pet Center. I bought at Benson's pet center, $8.99 live rock to start my saltwater tank. This live rock was "cured" and already cycled but it looked so blah (plain white). I bought 5 pounds from Bensons (in Saratoga) which ended up being 55 bucks. I went to Eddie's after and damn! They had live rock with purple/orange/pink algae with urchins, brittle stars, sponges, and mushroom coral already on the live rock for 8.99 a pound!! I wish i did more research for where to get my live rock around here! They have an extensive saltwater selection with really great looking and unique fish. They will also special order for you. They have sting rays which are cool and have a pond/koi section out in the back. Very clean place and very healthy looking fish. They are middle ground as far as pricing. Prolly cheaper than Petco. Now...for the staff. Honestly, if you want great service go to Benson's but they don't have the selection Eddie's has. Benson's fish area has some of the nicest people. The staff has been mixed for me at Eddie's though, some are really passionate about fish and some are not. It's depends who you get. Like I said, the staff is mixed but that shouldn't stop you from going there! They have you pick a number and wait for you to get called when they are busy. But since Eddie's my tank is thriving and has some cool urchins and stuff from their great live rock! I highly recommend this place! read more

Came here today to purchase some snails for our aquarium. Always excellent service always excellent environment for you to explore and see the different types of saltwater life and freshwater life that is available for you. this is an experience that you can bring your children to so that they can look around and see all the different sea life that is available and ask questions about that and learn different things as well. they have different types of classes that you can sign up for they have different types of events that they put on to learn about your aquarium in about the fish life and it is really a excellent service that they have. they also do free water testing there as well to check for pH balance in your tank to make sure that your tank is safe for the fish that they're giving you and if something is happening to the fish when they give it to you you bring in the water in your tank they'll test it for you tell you what you need and replace the fish that you lost and it's a great service great customer service and they are an excellent place to go to for all your aquarium needs. We have been going to Eddie's for many, many years. When I went last Thursday , a gentleman said"Lots of Luck, I've been here for 30 minutes and noone has talked to me." I read other negative reviews. I walked in asked the very accommodating clerk to get me some feeders. She asked if they were for a pond. She gave me such a beautiful variety that was all I needed to buy. I think the store's philosophy is to wait until you approach them. I absolutely love this place. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They seem to genuinely want their customers to succeed with their aquariums. In particular, Eddie's offers free lessons on saltwater aquariums, and freshwater aquariums every month. They also offer free water testing. In addition, the staff has been with me every step of the way in setting up my first saltwater tank and it has been a huge success thanks to their guidance. Walking into a good fish store is like walking into an art museum. There is all this beauty around you, right at eye level. People leisurely walk from one display to the next, mulling it over, contemplating it. It's quiet, peaceful, almost reverent. Eddie's Aquarium Centre sounds like a used-car dealership for fish. Coupled with the "We found Nemo!" posters everywhere, and we were off to a bad start. Everyone knows that the Finding Nemo movie, like so many animal movies before it, resulted in tons of stupid children wanting a Nemo of their very own, with no concept of how to properly care for a salt-water tank. But once inside, I quickly realized that Eddie's was a very serious fish store for serious hobbyists. My friend and I began to make the rounds. I was buying him a couple fish for his birthday to add to his tank. We began making lists of the things he liked. The selection here is great. Prices/sales are clearly labeled, and they indicate clearly which fish are aggressive. There are posters all over with different types of fish and plants, so you can educate yourself a little bit before you buy. There was one tank that had a dead fish in it, which is upsetting to see. But I don't think it was a result of poor care. All the fish seemed happy and uncrowded. Sometimes fish just die. :( But god, one dead fish in the whole store? Count the number of dead ones you see at a petco sometime. It's awful. I was a little surprised as well at the kind of shoddy hermit crab shell stock. The price was great, but a lot of the shells were broken and sad looking. After we had our list, we went and chatted with a saleman. I really wish I had caught his name, because he was awesome. He wanted to know what fish we had and asked for a lot of details about the tank (even though it's a very simple tank, he treated the information with all the gravity of an immensely complicated tank). Also, he was SO honest. A couple fish he scratched off my list right away--telling me that they would not get along, or would likely get eaten. Seriously, some pet stores will just let you buy a slew of uncompatible creatures bcs what do they care as long as they make a sale? But this guy clearly was knowledgeable and loved his work. I also appreciated how down to earth he was. My friend is new to his hobby and we had a couple newbie questions. But the salesman never made us feel stupid. He encouraged us to ask questions and even gave my friend kudos for not getting a zillion things for his tank at once. After we'd made our decision, awesome salesman gently bagged our fish and made sure we knew how to acclimate them properly. We then walked to the non-aquarium section of the store to pay. Over here, you can find a huge variety of tanks, equipment, and food. Also, a cat. I find a cat in a fish store immensely amusing. A clownfish, a firefish, a hermit crab, five hermit crab shells, and a pack of frozen brine shrimp came to $48. Not bad at all! The girl at the counter was super friendly and even asked how far a drive we had, to ensure everything was packed appropriately for transport. We got home and my friend and I were very careful to acclimate the new citizens of Tanktown appropriately. The fish have gotten off to a great start and seem happy and healthy. It's so cute, my friend already had a single clownfish, who was kind of neurotic and stressed. Awesome salesman said that clowns are social and she'd probably calm down if we got her a friend. When Clown 1 saw Clown 2 in his plastic bag, she flipped out and they both were bumping into the bag to get to eachother. When we finally let Clown 2 out, Clown 1 wouldn't leave his side. In fact, if Clown 1 started swimming away and then realized Clown 2 wasn't following, she would turn and dart back to him. Fun activity: Read that last paragraph, but instead of fish, imagine that I'm talking about actual clowns. read more

I have been to Eddie's Aquarium several times, and this past weekend was my last visit. The staff does not provide quality customer service. On one occassion that I was at the store, employees were too busy texting and talking amongst themselves rather than assisting other customers. This past weekend, I was prepared to spend a decent amount of money. I waited for over 45 minutes for assistance (with a number), and when an employee arrived to help out, they completely avoided helping me (and othe customers), and spoke to a friend of theres instead. I spoke to the manager about the situtation, but he would not listen to my concerns and insisted that the number system they had in place was rather efficient. Not to mention, that I have an established salt water tank, and 90% of the time my fish die when I buy them from Eddie's, BUT NOT from other competitors. Fish can be overpriced as well. read more

It had been several years since I'd been to Eddie's. I was getting a betta fish and went to get some food for him. I could have gone to any big box pet store in the area but I chose Eddie's because I wanted to support a local business that (I thought) actually cares for its fish. Unfortunately, I was mistaken. I was so disappointed to see that they are still keeping all of their bettas in very small bowls. This is an aquarium center - they should know better. Even I know from the research I've done on how to properly care for bettas that they are tropical fish that need substrate, a filter, and a heater to thrive. Only two of Eddie's bettas were actually swimming and looked healthy, the rest were just sitting on the bottom of the bowl not moving. In addition to this, I saw two dead fish floating in one of the other tanks and most of the tanks were in need of a good cleaning. It was just gross, and very sad. I did give them 2 stars because the staff were actually very helpful but I won't be going back to Eddie's anytime soon. read more

But in most cases I would rather support a mom and pop store and better quality and healthier fish than the big chain stores. The staff is top notch. Depending on what I need I may go to the chain for mechanical and chemicals as the prices are less but aquatic stock Eddie's is the place. Not to mention it's 4 mins away. Thanks to the staff and the store my tank is up and running after sitting empty for several years. Like supporting local stores and not chains so I went in to purchase a bigger tank. Staff was great owner even helped put the tank in my vehicle. Set it up perfect. Purchased three pitcus catfish two smaller and one big enough he won't get eaten by my other fish. One of the smaller two had fin rot and mold eventually developed on his fins. Called the store left a message on the help hotline never got a call back. After paying for a treatment he eventually dies along with the other days later. And before anyone thinks it was my treatment method... the other fish in the small tank are still thriving. Ohwell it happens no big deal, then the big cat dies unexpectedly. Again no big deal maby it was his time. After this I went back to the store started fresh and decided on a pleco, the only one that was big enough for me was 60$. Cool fish not a problem paying that nice white spots on the black. Added him to the 90g tank with my oscars and other Plecos and his nice white spots started to spread and you guessed it ich.... black Pleko dies and now here I am at square one and I need to treat my fish I've had for over 1 year no problems all at cost to me. Cool place not up to par on the health of their fish. Won't be going back now that I'm out 300$ should of learned the first time. read more
