I wish I had taken more time to research this rescue before beginning my search for a Rottweiler in my area. As a Rottie owner for over 30 years, I recently lost my last one in December 2025, and my family and I were ready to welcome another into our home. While searching, we came across a post about a very thin, sick, and emaciated Rottweiler local to us. We immediately completed an online application through the MRR website and also applied via Petfinder. As of February 19th, his profile is still live and shows he is available for adoption. My parents attended a live adoption event at Petco this past weekend and spoke with the foster couple, who were unable to answer basic questions and repeatedly told everyone including my parents to apply online. They explained multiple times that they had already applied and wanted to know the next steps and how many applicants were being considered. They were told to email. Both my parents and I emailed separately and received no response. I then sent a Facebook message and was told, very coldly and bluntly, that the dog had already been adopted and would be going to his new home on February 27th after being neutered. While I am glad this poor dog who was barely 60 pounds will hopefully be settling into a loving home, the lack of communication and transparency throughout this process was extremely disappointing. Based on this experience, I would not recommend working with this rescue. The many negative comments from others reflect concerns similar to ours, and unfortunately, there seem to be far more negative experiences than positive ones. read more

We recently had a very disappointing experience with this rescue organization. We completed everything that was asked of us filled out the application, provided excellent references (including our veterinarian), and attended the adoption day at Petco. Despite showing genuine interest and being fully prepared to adopt, we received no communication or updates. While we were waiting to hear back, the dog we hoped to adopt continued to be advertised as still needing a home. At the adoption event, we felt completely overlooked. The foster family showed no interest in speaking with us, didn't respond to our questions, and made no effort to engage even though we were clearly serious and eager about adopting. The dog was severely emaciated, which made us even more determined to help. We reached out multiple times through comments and direct messages but never received a single response. Overall, communication was extremely poor, transparency was lacking, and the entire process felt disorganized and discouraging. It was emotionally difficult to invest time, hope, and care into wanting to help these animals, only to be met with silence and confusion. For anyone considering sdopting with this organization, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Sadly, our experience left us feeling that our time, effort, and sincere desire to provide a loving home were not valued. read more

Mountain Rottie Rescue is my favorite rescue hands down!! Their adoption process is thorough, thoughtful and absolutely in the best interest of both the dogs and the families hoping to adopt. They take the time to really understand the needs, personalities and history of each dog while also carefully considering the lifestyle and expectations of potential adopters. This level of care ensures the dogs are set up for success in their forever homes not just placed quickly. As someone who also volunteers in a shelter, I've seen first hand how heartbreaking it is when a dog gets returned. With the kind of vetting Mountain Rottie Rescue does, their process isn't a barrier, it's kindness. The fosters through Mountain Rottie Rescue are another standout. Every Foster I've interacted with has been knowledgeable, honest, and transparent about the dogs in their care -you can tell they truly love these dogs and want the absolute best for them. I had a great experience adopting my dog from them as did my parents who adopted 2 dogs from them. I have had the best experience with Mountain Rottie Rescue. My journey started when I was mindlessly scrolling through Facebook after I had lost my previous dog to lymphoma. I wasn't planning on getting a pup right away, but a post full of new puppies caught my eye and before I knew it, I was submitting an application. They took care of my pups neuter and were there for any questions I had. I am so blessed to have been chosen to adopt. Sometimes, I understand there are multiple applications for one dog. Of course they are going to pick the person that they feel the dog is going to do best with. They are a foster group, full of volunteers that love these dogs like their own. The dogs are already coming from a broken life. They want to see them succeed and will do everything possible to make that happen. Sometimes, you have to understand that some dogs shouldn't be put in certain situations. Some need large fences, some need no children, some need to be an only dog, some do best with another dog in the house. The dogs deserve the best and the rescue will choose the best home for that particular pup. Some people may not like that, but I think it's honorable. read more

Our family has rescued two dogs through MRR, and they have been absolutely wonderful to work with. After such a positive experience with our first rescue, we decided to become fosters and welcomed a stray puppy into our home. Throughout the entire process, the communication and support from MRR were outstanding. In the end, we realized the best home for that puppy was ours -- and we happily became a "foster fail." It's important to remember that rescue organizations carefully evaluate each application to ensure the best possible fit for both the dog and the family. Not being selected doesn't mean you aren't a good pet owner -- it simply means they are prioritizing the animal's specific needs. Leaving a one-star review out of disappointment is unfair to the dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to save and place these dogs. We will absolutely continue to support MRR and can confidently say from personal experience that they are compassionate, thoughtful, and truly committed to giving deserving dogs loving homes. read more

This was my second time applying to adopt through this rescue, and unfortunately, I still haven't received any response to my emails or application. It's frustrating, especially since they're very active on social media, but don't seem to respond when potential adopters reach out directly. During a recent adoption event, I spoke with another couple who shared similar concerns. Our experience there was disappointing the foster parents came across as unapproachable, and none of our questions were properly addressed. The dogs were being shown, but there was no opportunity to sit down, interact with them, or get to know them in a meaningful way. I'm still waiting to hear back about my application, and I've since noticed several negative reviews from others who appear to have had similar experiences. Based on my experience, I wouldn't recommend spending your time with this rescue. Communication has been lacking, and the overall experience hasn't been very welcoming. read more

We had an amazing experience with MRR when we adopted our dog a few months ago. They took great care ensuring that we were the best match for him. I am very grateful that they are very selective and put the animal first. I have been to multiple events and have great conversations and witnessed great interactions with future adopters. The foster parents I have engaged with are absolutely incredible and they not only have full time day jobs but also dedicate almost all of their personal time to this rescue organization. All but one of my animals are rescues , I previously had a registered therapy dog and I have been a dog owner for more than 30 years so I speak from experience. To those who indicate a bad experience perhaps it just was not a right fit for you but please be considerate of the precious work that this group does. Thank you MRR for all that you do. I have adopted 3 rescue dogs from MRR since 2015, fabulous organization and people! They go overboard to ensure a great fit for the adoptive family and the dogs. Highly recommend! Also, just want to point out that it is fair for people who did not like their experience as potential adopters to leave a unfavorable rating, but notice how two pairs of them basically duplicate the same bad review in order to Yelp-bomb. That seems unfair, both members of a couple in one case and the other got their friend living in CA to write one? In any case, if you are looking to rescue a dog, great, there are so many who need families! The right dog for you is out there and many dedicated rescue volunteers, like the MRR team, are working so hard to get them adopted. Maybe people should save the 1 star reviews for serious issues, not "I didn't get the first dog I applied for". read more

Getting my first-ever dog from MRR was such an amazing experience. The adoption process was smooth from start to finish, and everyone I interacted with was kind, knowledgeable, and incredibly passionate about the volunteer work they do. Their dedication truly inspired me to get more involved, and I decided to start fostering for the rescue. Whether you choose to adopt, volunteer, or foster, they are supportive every step of the way. You can tell they genuinely care about both the dogs and the people they work with. There's a reason shelters trust them to rescue their pups. After living together for over a year, my partner and I decided to adopt a dog. We searched high and low and engaged with a variety of rescues and shelters. What amazed me about MRR was how committed they were to ensuring all of their dogs find a well fitting home. We were initially interested in a doodle mix who we even met at an adoption clinic. After having a very transparent conversation, he was deemed not to be a fit for our family due to incompatibilities with his energy level compared with that in our household. Enter Willow. She is the perfect fit for us and us for her. She's the best cuddle bug and would rather be curled up on the couch instead of going for miles long hikes. I have rescued dogs in the past and when I was ready for another dog, one of my coworkers told me about Mountain Rottie Rescue. My boyfriend and I researched MRR and started looking at all the dogs on their website. We had our eye on a couple of them so we went to our first Pet Clinic and fell in love with so many. An application was filled out, an initial phone interview and references were checked. They just want to make sure it is a good fit all the way around. You don't always get your first choice or maybe even your second choice. That's what happened to us, but things happen for a reason and the third time was a charm and we couldn't happier than we are with Miss Dolly. We were looking to adopt after we suffered a tragic loss in 2013 when our house was completely lost in a fire and it took our beloved dogs. Mountain Rottie Rescue helped us find the perfect dog to start our healing process. Oh we didn't stop there. Over the years we adopted 3 more dogs, fostered dogs and got involved with transport when our house became too full for more. What I love most about this rescue is they won't adopt a dog unless the situation is perfect. These dogs deserve the perfect home and it takes a lot of work to find that. Are some people disappointed because of that? Absolutely, but it's about rescuing these precious beings and finding them a soft landing for the rest of their lives. We've adopted multiple times through MRR and they have always been fantastic. The staff and fosters are all amazing, and truly care about their dogs and the families they help connect. Kelly, Christine, and Gary specifically are genuinely amazing, caring people committed to the well-being and happiness of the animals AND adoptees. They are thorough, so expect some necessary questions about your home, your commitment level, the type of companion you're looking for, etc etc. They do the due-diligence that some other rescues don't bother with, and it really makes all the difference in making sure you get matched with the new family member that fits both you and the dog. We LOVE Mountain Rottie Rescue. We adopted 2 dogs from them and they're wonderful. Made sure we were the perfect fit with both dogs - a few years apart, not at the same time. The staff are the most kind, caring people and love these dogs like they're their own until they find their forever homes. I don't know how they do it. We recently had to put one of our dogs down and his foster mom from MMR was the first person I told outside of our immediate family. We adopted him 11 years ago but she always stayed in touch and cared about him. Now we're in a spot maybe we should adopt another dog for his sister but I'm not quite ready but when I am, I'll be calling them. I highly recommend them. read more

My family and I can't say enough good things about mountain rottie rescue. A few years back my family and I were in search of a rescue dog and we met a few dogs before meeting our now dog. And even though this process was done during covid, the people who work for this organization made it extremely easy to navigate. Especially for a first-time dog owning family. The people who foster these dogs truly value giving the rescues a good home and do so well with communicating with their customers. They do so much for these animals and truly are a remarkable group of people.. so much so that not only did we adopt our sweet Roxie from them, but we decided to also start fostering for them as well to help the cause. If you are looking for a reliable, trusting, 1000% about the animals kind of rescue.. look no further. We fostered a pup that they took in with a broken leg and without hesitation they got him his surgery and medication needed. Having adopted from MRR and the Saratoga County Humane society I found both organizations similar in their vetting process. We had to complete applications at both places, interview and see how our dogs got along with one another and our family as part of the process before we were accepted. We also were not the only applicants for both adoptions and it did feel a bit like a competition, but I appreciate that the process is to ensure the best fit for the dog. Rescuing is a true labor of love and sadly endless. I am thankful for all the volunteers committed to this cause. I can't imagine life without my 2 rescues! read more

We are so in love with our sweet Layla that we adopted through MRR! At first, we were interested in a different dog. MRR came to do a home visit and met our young border collie, Roxie, who is very active and typical high energy border collie! MRR suggested that a calmer dog may be a better fit for us and suggested Layla. We took Roxie to meet her and they hit it off beautifully. Layla is sweet and laid back and balances Roxie's high energy. They are bonded and living their best life. I highly recommend MRR for their thorough vetting of adopters and placing dogs in homes with a good fit. THANK YOU MRR! read more
