You can't possibly tell me that this is from her scratching at herself. I offered to send the owner the pictures myself, but she declined.

I've been bringing my dog here for a few years now and have never had an issue, until now. I brought Sophie in on Monday morning and picked her up in the afternoon. I didn't notice anything at the time, but by Tuesday morning I noticed a large red spot on her shoulder. I was with her all night and did not see her scratching or licking/biting the area. I called Head to Tail Tuesday afternoon and told them what I had noticed and they said I could bring her in that evening for them to look at it. As the day went on the sore seemed to be getting worse and was clearly causing her pain so I made the decision to take her to the vet where she was given a steroid shot and a topical medication. When I brought her into the store, the woman was asking whether she had been scratching and seemed to insinuate that this was some kind of rash that was unrelated to the grooming. She took down some information and said that she'd have the owner, Marie call me the next day. Which brings me to today... I did not get a call from Marie and decided to call myself in the afternoon. I was very pleasant and asked her if she had heard about the situation at which point she started to get very nasty with me. She kept saying "well, what do you want me to do about it?". I explained that my dog has not had any skin conditions before and that this was obviously a result from the grooming that she had the day before. She kept interrupting me and insisting that this was not their fault and then ultimately told (yelled at) me to mail my vet bill to her and never come back there again. I had called from my work phone and once we hung up she called back. She told me "I'm even more mad now because I read your notes and your dog comes in matted." I'm sorry, but I thought that was what the groomer was for? If you can't handle matted hair without harming my dog, then you should have said so beforehand. Also, how dare she tell me that she's mad when my poor dog is the victim here?? To top it off, she felt the need to threaten my job by saying that she would complain about me being rude (after I said I was going to post this review)... I'm absolutely appalled that this is the way a business owner would treat one of their loyal clients.

Mason looking so happy on the Head to Tail Facebook page!

We are beyond pleased with our experience at Head to Tail! Our eight-year-old Great Pyrenees / Australian Shepherd mix had never been groomed before (we rescued him less than a year ago) and we were originally thinking of bringing him to Petsmart. After calling Petsmart numerous times and getting quoted all different amounts (ranging from $65 - $90+) for a basic wash and trim, we remembered we had a gift certificate to Head to Tail. We called and they were able to get us in right away! The entire staff is so warm, friendly, and accommodating. Everyone welcomed us into the shop when we arrived and the staff did everything in their power to help our doggie feel happy and comfortable. I love the location on Upper Union and all of the awesome toys, treats, and other goodies inside. We dropped him off for a few hours, and we were told we could actually pick him up as late as 5:00 (all of the groomed dogs get to hang out at doggie daycare for the remainder of the day)! Upon pickup he seemed very happy and was sporting a cute custom bandana. They also gave us a few doggie cookies for the road. We were so impressed with the level of personal attention and customer service! And I must say, I've never seen our Mason looking so clean and fluffy! I can't stop cuddling and petting him-- he looks, smells, and feels fantastic! After liking their Facebook page (which I highly recommend) we noticed they posted 50 photos from that day, and our Mason was looking so happy amongst his new doggie friends. I really can't say enough great things, and I can't imagine why anyone would have anything negative to say about this place. We are so delighted!

Would not open left eye due to chemical burn, eye was completely cloudy.

I took my dog in on March 9th to get his winter coat coat cut. We have had his coat cut there twice before in the prior year with excellent results and their store has many great things for sale, from food to pet supplies. But, this time was not so good. When I brought him home, I noticed his left eye would not open. Even when I forced it, he would squeeze it shut. I immediately called my vet and brought him down to be seen before they closed. Apparently, some shampoo or something else got into his eye and caused a chemical burn. After getting diagnosed and getting medicine for his eye which cost me $167 on top of the $73 I paid (including tip) for the grooming appointment. Subsequent followup appointments cost me another $140 in office visits. When I called Head to Tail to inform them what happened on the 9th, the groomer who was speaking to the counter person while the phone was off the hook denied they were the cause of it and flatly refused to offer to pay my vet bill. They were obviously unaware I was able to hear their conversation because they asked for permission to call the vet and confirm my accusation. The vet sent the bill to them and when I called to followup, the said someone would call be back with a resolution. On my second followup call after I received no call back, I was told I would be contacted and it has now been over a week since that call. I cannot in good conscience recommend this place, as I had last year. They refused to accept that it could have been their error that caused the injury, their failure to followup and offer any kind of payment or refund, and no offer of apology or acceptance of their part. I understand accidents happen, and would not have held anything against if they offered at least and apology and refund of my grooming fee.

So I proceeded to stop in the next day to check for myself, I was disappointed because it wasn't there. I got an employee and asked her to take a picture of the fish I was looking for because the manager wouldn't be there till 3:30 and I was told they could order it. She was very hesitant and said she wouldn't be there at 3:30. So I asked her to take the picture anyway and pass it along to whoever's taking over her shift. So then I ask her what time are you getting out and she tells me 5:30. So then I call it 3:30 and get a manager, who told me she let the other employee go early because it's so slow wonder why. I then ask the manager to look on the website so I could explain the fish that I was looking for, she says what website and I said the one that you have online on Google. 2 seconds later maybe five she says I have no idea where the picture is. These employees here are very unprofessional and I would not want them looking after my pets. They didn't seem to be very pet friendly or should I say person friendly. Very unsatisfied disappointed. I've never been treated like that in the pet store, usually pet people are exceptionally nice and helpful. So don't expect much if you're going to shop here and it's very dirty in there too. Hope this is helpful

Paperwork was not given prior to appointment and important questions were not asked at all. I had a feeling in my gut to hang around for my pups first grooming experience here and I'm glad I did. Watched the camera feed to see my dog in the back room just hanging around for 15 mins before they attempted to put him on the table. He didn't react well to being in a new unfamiliar place with strangers who barely acknowledged him. Both groomers were busy with other dogs so I'm confused as to why they took my pup back if they didn't have the time or attention for him. I was happy to walk out of here before they even got to grooming my pup. I'll make sure to do more research to find a groomer that can handle anxious pups. The owner of this establishment is extremely rude and should rethink their approach to handling customers. I'm not sure how this business has lasted with such poor customer service. I'll never come back here and would tell anyone I know to not bother.

I was there today and it wasn't busy, but the shipment was being unloaded. I pulled my ticket but no one was calling out numbers. I finally asked a woman for help but she said "I don't work here but I'll let them know". At that point I just left. I've been ignored there for 25 years going back to the old Latham location. One positive experience I had was a few years ago. They had species plant I wanted but there was only a couple left. The salesman informed me that they had some that were yet to be unpacked in the back room. Long story short he was reprimanded for selling plants that weren't yet in the display case (in front of me while I was checking out). That ruined the experience and made me feel I did something wrong. So I guess I never had a positive experience, I just witnessed someone going above and beyond being treated like trash. It's sad to say, but I'm actually happier walking in and not seeing anything I want to buy. The stressful part is seeing something I want and having to jump through hoops to get someone's attention and get service. To sum things up it's not really worth the stress for me and I will go elsewhere from

These fish require different water parameters and have very different temperaments, which creates stress and weakens their immune systems. Stressed fish are far more likely to develop ich (Ichthyophthirius multifiliis, or "white spot disease"), and once one fish is infected, the entire tank is at risk. Unfortunately, stores that mix species like this often deny responsibility and may mislead customers to avoid refunds or replacements. For anyone buying fish from any store that displays mixed species, I strongly recommend quarantining and proactively treating for potential bacterial, viral, or parasitic infections before adding them to your main aquarium. This precaution protects both your tank and your fish.
