tl;dr Eddie's has a large selection of carpets and offers carpet binding services (even for carpeting/remnants that are not purchased through them) at a very reasonable rate. I spoke with Rudy once and worked with Ray and both are genuinely helpful.
I was referred to Eddie's when I called a remnants store to inquire where I could have the extra carpeting from my new home made into area rugs. On a Thursday afternoon, I stopped by the warehouse/showroom to see if I could speak to someone in person about my options but ended up wandering around for almost 15 mins without finding a single person. There were 2 other customers there just browsing on their own but they seemed to be content. I decided to go home and give them a call another day since I didn't have a whole lot of other leads for people willing to bind carpet that isn't purchased at the same place.
The following week, I called and Rudy answered the phone. He listened to my requests and questions and was very helpful. Binding service is $2 per linear foot + $7.5 squaring fee per rug (so, for a 9'x12', it would cost 2*(9+12+9+12)+7.5=$91.50, not a bad deal at all if you have ever shopped for a 9'x12' rug before and know the usual pricing!)
The second time I called, it was to schedule an appointment for someone to come and help me rip up the brand new carpeting at my house & pick it up for binding service. I'm a huge DIY-er but there's only so much I can do before I know to call the pros. Ray answered the phone this time and we agreed on a time a few days later. He showed up on time (though I was surprised he came by himself), the two of us worked our butts off pulling up carpet, rolling them, labeling them with the sizes I wanted them bound, and moving them from my 3-story house (i.e., lots of stairs) down to his truck. The whole job ended up taking 2.5 hours and Ray only wanted to charge me $150! If that is not the most affordable carpet removal rate, I don't know what is. Before he left, I asked if there's any chance he could help me haul up 7-8 boxes of hardwood flooring (which weigh 50-60 pounds each) from the garage to the second floor. Although he was clearly exhausted, he agreed and I happily threw in a generous tip for saving my back.
Several weeks later, when my hardwood flooring were completely installed, Ray had my rugs bound and ready for delivery. I turned almost 1,200 sq ft of brand new wall-to-wall carpeting into 14 somewhat standard-sized rugs and runners and could not be more pleased with how they turned out. Including the purchase of rug padding that would prevent the rugs from scratching up my flooring, my total damage came out to $1,300, only a little more than what a single 9'x12' rug I was eyeing on Overstock would cost. Except this way, I won't have to freak out when/if my little dogs have an accident on the rug, and I can easily throw one away and bring up an immediate replacement from my giant rug stash anytime a rug reaches the point of no rescue from stains.
Unfortunately, I have enough rugs to last me a lifetime it seems so I probably won't be needing services from Eddie's again any time soon, but I would absolutely recommend them to anyone needing carpeting or carpet binding. read more
