I got a *surprise bag* from TooGoodToGo & was excited for the donuts, & it showed in my face. I wanted to try a local to me donut shop instead of going to my usual place that's not close. Most of Eddie's selection are true blue collar St Louis classics like the glaze, cake and long John. There were a few what like to call weirdo donuts in the case which I don't usually get ( think fruit pebbles on a donuts.) Dude here is a trip, pretty funny but I can see how some others felt his commentary off putting. They have a butthole donut as he called it so I got one for my friend to try along with several others. Good donuts...classic taste. There are a lot of options. It's a walk up/takeout kinda places so don't expect to eat in. The prices are reasonable...I got a chocolate long john and 2 Apple Fritters (which were huge) for $3.20. They had a better flavor than Dunkin Donuts in my opinion...and is black owned which is a plus. It's definitely not a flashy place...lol. I am a self proclaimed donut connoisseur (blog to come, be on the look out), the donuts here were outstanding! You can tell these donuts were made fresh daily & they were cheap! Everywhere I go I try a classic glazed and a sprinkle donut to be consistent in my evaluation and these donuts are delicious! I also had a bite of the apple fritter (with real apples) and the toffee topped donuts which was to die for. Eddie and the other fellow working (didn't get his name) were amazing! They were super personable and we stayed and chatted with them for over 20 mins. When they found out I was moving to STL from Florida they gave me so much advice on where to live and areas to stay away from. They even told me if I ever feel uncomfortable too come on down to the shop. You don't get that kind of hospitality in south Florida. I will definitively becoming back one I move! read more

As noted previously, Justin was not veering from his cake donut approach. Fine. Should I just stick with one kind of donut or go for the craziest thing I saw in the place? At Eddie's, there was no question. I went for the craziest thing I saw in the place. It was massive. A monster of a donut. I guess it's called the chocolate fudge-filled donut, but I dubbed it the Poo Donut (which, granted, is probably not the best marketing, but you know, the chocolate creme bit coming out of the donut end looked like YOU KNOW... only tasty). Anyway, this rich bomb of a donut was nicely dusted with powdered sugar and just about pushed me over the edge into a diabetic coma, even though I shared with my friend Maria and offered bites to other Crawlers. It's the freak show of donuts. It's rich and delicious. It's dangerous and it's something you should probably try at least once, just to say you've walked on the wild side. Eddie's gets that fifth star for his friendly service (aside from that smart ass teenager working there). When one of our crew accidentally had a donut casualty (donut on the ground), Eddie kindly offered her some donut holes so she could continue the feast and get a bite of something new. I had an emergency this morning (Saturday) and Eddie's was able to bail me out. I dropped in early in the AM and announced I was in need of a gross of donuts. A dozen, dozen and fast! Eddie himself swung into action with his trusty assistant working another display case. 144 wonderful smelling pieces of deep fried goodness were placed gingerly into 12 boxes and expertly walked to my vehicle. Eddie's is the best for so many reasons. If I could give it a solid 10 stars, I would. First and foremost, the donuts are always fresh, soft, and taste great. Also, the price is no different, and often cheaper than other donut shops around. I've had donuts at 5+ different places in St. Louis, and I keep coming back to Eddie's. Another thing, Eddie's accept credit/debit cards. Why is that not standard!? You know how many times I've been to a donut shop and they say, "Sorry, we only accept cash or check." WHAT?! What's the purpose?!! (Ok, sorry. Rant over.) Also, the people are nice. Every other St. Louis donut shop I've been to, they're always so harsh and hurrying me out the door. I have to preface this review by saying i am a loyal customer of another donut shop in town so i was going out of my comfort zone by having breakfast here today. I stopped by just before 10am and they didn't have many options left but i chose a glazed cinnamon roll. The price was reasonable for a 'fancy' style donut and it was really light and delicious. The best part in the proximity to St. Louis Juice Press which has moved in next door. When you feel guilty about breaking your diet by eating donuts you can drop by next door and grab some juice which makes it a balanced meal right? While in St. Louis for something work-related, I got a Saturday morning craving for donuts. After carefully combing through other Yelp reviews of 4-5 donut shops, Eddie's sounded like my kind of place. It wasn't too far from the hotel I was staying at so I headed over. I got there about 10:00 and I'm weird in that I don't like to re-heat donuts so to me, the state they were in at 10:00 is just fine. I got a glazed donut, a twist, and a chocolate iced donut. The guy at the counter helping me was really friendly and the other man, who I presumed might have been Eddie, was having a jocular conversation with another customer that involved a lot of good-natured ribbing. I liked the overall feel of the place and even at 10 AM there was still a decent selection of donuts. When I went to pay for my three donuts for the grand sum of $2.42, I had $12, and when I realized I only had two 1's and got ready to hand the $10 bill over, the guy just said, "That's ok, just make it two even." It wasn't only the donut that had icing on it! Living in Brooklyn for the past few years I have to say that customer service is not always pleasant. Overall St. Louis has been good to me in that regard and Eddie's definitely did its part. It seems like Eddie is just getting the place going, and with limited street visibility, he needs your help.
