    Little Gem Salad

Lots of stems and brown lettuce in my Little Gems salad. Not used to this, coming from Union Loafers. I was really looking forward to it.

I've been hearing wonderful things about Union Loafers, so when my parents came to town, I decided to take them here to try it. We made a reservation and we were seated immediately. The staff were very friendly and all of them were willing to help with questions about the wine and pizza. The burnt toast and cheese was absolutely incredible. I could have licked that bowl clean. The crust on both pizzas had the perfect amount of char to them and we all polished it off. It was also my brothers birthday, and I had listed in my reservation. They brought over a chocolate chip cookie for him and it was one of the best cookies I've had in the city!

Union has the best bread. I had The Bear sandwich. Excellent. Lots of goodness and love baked into each sandwich. The lady working the counter was very patient. It was a beautiful day for a picnic with a sandwich at Forest Park.

Stopped in since I had a gift card to use. The staff friendly and very helpful. I ordered a loaf to go and an egg salad sandwich. The sandwich was good. Pic included The bread was also good. Waiting to go back and try a couple other loaves. The restaurant has a nice little counter service area and dining room. It's a small location with some great vibes.

Meatball with burnt toast. Get this!

Time for an updated review! I enjoy this spot often, more for lunch than dinner and I would say my 54 check-ins is not accurate, I am sure it's quite a bit more. Pizza dinner on Saturday night. We put our name in but didn't wait too long for a seat at the bar. We planned on duplicating our order from our last visit but lo and behold they had a couple of new appetizers, so we went with the Italian salad, meatballs with burnt toast, and a pepperoni pizza. I love the salad! Crisp lettuce with garbanzo, fennel, olive, picked pepper and Italian vinaigrette, so good. I asked for no cheese, This new appetizer? Don't pass on it, so very good. The meatball was full of flavor as was the marinara but that burnt toast, I could have sat there and ate it all night. One of their loafs, soaked in olive oil and toasted dark, yum! I did still leave room for the pizza, the pepperoni with a kick of heat from the Calabrian chili, chewy crust. Again, so good! Staff busy in the dining area and behind the bar. They definately go by the rule of if you are leaning you could be cleaning! Constantly rounding up plates and empty glasses, cleaning and polishing the glasses, and wiping things down. Our server was busy but she was attentive to us, I discussed beer options and she recommended the Scratch brewery beer. Talked it up and gave me a sample. It was very good, light and refreshing and went down easy with the pizza. Love this place, I go often but can't imagine how often if I lived closer!

Amazzzzzing Pizza's and garlic bread !!! Good to get the Reservation prior to going to this place. Pizzas are not served only during dinner. Tried the different pizzas - sausage basil tomato, Pepperoni All were superb ! Got the leftovers packed and next day warming the assorted pizzas were equally wonderful. It takes time for the fresh food to come so be ready for the great ambiance and spend time with your friends & family

Still a great place to grab lunch! Love coming and trying different things here. Sat at the bar and enjoyed a couple of different things. Always good!

I'm impressed after my first visit! This place was packed to the gills when we arrived, but we were able to be seated fairly fast, and the staff was kind and accommodating. And don't let the simplicity of the menu fool you, the sandwiches are AMAZING. Union Loafers is known for their bread and I totally get it now. My sandwich was perfection, just bursting with flavor. And don't skip out on a HUGE cookie! The space is small and industrial, while also managing to be cozy. Can't wait to come back, I need to buy some fresh bread to bring home!

    Chicken salad sandwich to go

Feel like I need to come back and try again. I stopped by when I was a little early for going next door for an event. I needed to use their restroom, but felt like I should place an order there also. I got a Chicken Salad Sandwich to-go. I ate it the next day and it was good. Not spectacular, but is that because it was a day old? Service was fast and efficient. Would like to come back in for a proper meal either in the restaurant or on their patio.

Union Loafers hits every single time, and I was so happy I thought of going to lunch here when I was in the neighborhood, it was a great way to end a week. I ended up getting a half sandwich and half salad. I absolutely had to get the little gem salad, I think it's the freshest salad I've ever had and is always consistent. I got the turkey sandwich, and the bread and mayo/ mustard combo really seal the deal. I sat at the bar and service was prompt and friendly. You must go!!

    Garlic pull apart bread appetizer
    Kaitlyn S.

Went with my mom for dinner and had an amazing experience! The garlic pull apart bread appetizer was soooo delicious. The pizza is on the thinner side and you can taste the freshness of all the ingredients used to make it! The service is also wonderful and the ambiance makes it easy to have fun casual dinners. This is my second time here and every single dish has been phenomenal!

    Tomato Pie
    Cherie R.

Can't recommend Union Loafers enough! The garlic cheese pull apart bread is to die for! My favorite. The pizzas here are so good and freshly made. I loved all of them! The tomato pie and mushroom pie are great vegetarian options, and the pepperoni pizza and sausage pizza are great non veg options. Our waitress was great. The chocolate chip cookie was yummy too! My only complaint would probably be that the water was room temperature and the bathrooms aren't that great, but other than that, lovely experience!

    Spinach Pizza

The food is a 10/10. From their sandwiches - The Toscano is my absolute favorite! You can go wrong with their chicken salad or any of their other sandwich offerings. I really love their potato salad and their blueberry lemon soda! In terms of pizza- we love their bacon pizza but again everything is *chef's kiss* Best place for a cute lunch with a friend, a special b-day dinner, or even a great takeout spot for a weekday or weekend movie night. The service is always great. One of my go to places for any family/friends visiting.

Ask the Community - Union Loafers Cafe and Bread Bakery

Is outdoor seating available at your location right now?

They have a few tables available for seating outside

I think I remember seeing a couple tables outside. Can we eat there after getting our food if they're available?

Yes, when you're ordering, you can ask to be seated outside.

Are sandwiches and the gem salad only available at lunch?

My understanding is that only sandwiches and salads are available at lunch. Pizza and salads at night

    Can you order carry out?

Absolutely! Unfortunately, due to an issue with Charter, our phones were down for most of lunch yesterday. My apologies, Monica.

Honestly, if you judged it by the outside, you might drive right past it. There is one parking spot in front, and then a run down parking lot behind and to the side. The moment I walked in, I felt like I was back in my childhood. The lime green decor, the dark bakery display cases filled with buns, and the small plates of food inside reminded me of the Cantonese bakeries I grew up going to. They also had ready to go meals wrapped up to take home. We bought a bunch of things to try. We had the beef cheung fun, siu mai, BBQ pork baos, sesame balls, egg custard tarts, and one of my favorites, the giant round sponge cake. Everything was fresh and really tasty. The roast pork looked delicious too, with nice crispy skin. The biggest surprise for me was seeing lo po beng (Old Wife Cake). We can hardly ever find it on the East Coast, so whenever we do, we always buy some for my mom. Seeing it here made me so happy. I live in the Metro D.C. area, where we have some really good Cantonese bakeries, so I wasn't expecting much from this tiny place. But honestly, Wei Hong Bakery could definitely give many of the bakeries back home a run for their money. Don't let the outside fool you. If you're looking for authentic Cantonese bakery items in St. Louis, this little bakery is absolutely worth a visit. It brought back so many childhood memories, and I'd definitely stop again the next time I'm in town.

They were one of my favorite pastries she made. (Obv not super important I just thought she may not know & what could it hurt giving her some input from a customer, she may know know?) In this message I also told her how long I'd been supporting her & why and how much I loved her bakery. She is black, female, and truly an artist and master at her craft.
