What a cozy place! Went here for dinner on a Friday night with friends and it was great! We had reservations at 645 and we were seated right away. It was pretty busy inside and on the patio, so definitely recommend reservations. The staff was very friendly and helped us pick out good options. We had the fresh cheese appetizer to start and it was sooo good and followed it with the spinach and pepperoni pizzas. Both were good but the spinach was my favorite!!! We were celebrating my friend's birthday so they gave him a free cookie! So kind of them and such a good cookie!! Lots of big chocolate chunks. Finally made it here after hearing about it from pretty much everyone I know. Came for a weekend lunch and it was packed. The inside is small, maybe around 20 seats, though I think there's an outdoor area too. We got seated after about 15 to 20 minutes for a party of 3 with no reservation. The menu is simple but really well done and very vegetarian friendly. I got the butternut squash soup which was so warm and comforting, and the egg salad sandwich was my favorite. Super filling and flavorful. My friend got the smoked beet sandwich and you can really taste the smokiness and it was like a vegetarian BBQ. Another friend did the soup and sandwich combo and loved it. Our server was really sweet and forgot a couple things but honestly given how slammed they were I completely get it. Time for an updated review! I enjoy this spot often, more for lunch than dinner and I would say my 54 check-ins is not accurate, I am sure it's quite a bit more. Pizza dinner on Saturday night. We put our name in but didn't wait too long for a seat at the bar. We planned on duplicating our order from our last visit but lo and behold they had a couple of new appetizers, so we went with the Italian salad, meatballs with burnt toast, and a pepperoni pizza. I love the salad! Crisp lettuce with garbanzo, fennel, olive, picked pepper and Italian vinaigrette, so good. I asked for no cheese, This new appetizer? Don't pass on it, so very good. The meatball was full of flavor as was the marinara but that burnt toast, I could have sat there and ate it all night. One of their loafs, soaked in olive oil and toasted dark, yum! I did still leave room for the pizza, the pepperoni with a kick of heat from the Calabrian chili, chewy crust. Again, so good! Staff busy in the dining area and behind the bar. They definately go by the rule of if you are leaning you could be cleaning! Constantly rounding up plates and empty glasses, cleaning and polishing the glasses, and wiping things down. I'm impressed after my first visit! This place was packed to the gills when we arrived, but we were able to be seated fairly fast, and the staff was kind and accommodating. Can't recommend Union Loafers enough! The garlic cheese pull apart bread is to die for! My favorite. The pizzas here are so good and freshly made. I loved all of them! The tomato pie and mushroom pie are great vegetarian options, and the pepperoni pizza and sausage pizza are great non veg options. Our waitress was great. The chocolate chip cookie was yummy too! Tonight we decided to try Union Loafers pizza. I'd read a recent Reddit post about the best pizza in StL, and this was the poster's top pick, so I wanted to check it out. There was quite a wait when we arrived at 7:30pm on a Thursday, but luckily there was immediate open seating at the bar. The bar chairs had backs and were pretty comfortable, and my knees weren't crushed against the underside of the bar, which I really appreciated! The waitress was very professional and polite, almost a bit standoffish. My partner and I ordered a pepperoni pizza and plain cheese. It took about 35 minutes to get our pizza. I nursed my water because no one really checked on us and I wasn't sure if we'd get refills, even though the bar section mostly cleared out by the time we left. The pizza was fine..not amazing, and not my favorite in town, but fine. The crust was delightfully chewy and it reminded me of Il Vicino, a restaurant I used to love in Clayton. Unfortunately, the crust had lots of charred spots on both of our pizzas, and we agreed it really took away from the overall tastiness. They offer it through Toast but it is subcontracted through DoorDash- so you believe you're ordering directly from a restaurant but instead are just deprioritized through DoorDash. Union Loafers has been on the docket since I moved to STL, and I'm so glad I finally had the chance to try it. For lunch hours, they serve sandwiches, soup, salad; for dinner, it's pizza and some other iterations of bread appetizers. They've got bread for purchase at all hours, but be aware that they will run out of most by the evening time. My partner and I went for dinner and did the garlic bread with marinara sauce as a starter and we went 50-50 for the pizza with half pepperoni and half margherita. I had to stop myself from ordering most of their starters because it all sounded delicious. The garlic bread was done like a monkey bread and the pieces pulled away nicely. The sauce was so good, that we asked to take the leftover amount to-go. I would absolutely recommend this dish. This was also probably the best pizza I've had in the city. The crust was perfectly done with the right amount of crunch and chew to it. The sauce did taste a little saltier but that's probably from all the accoutrements that they did not skimp on. They do warn you that it takes ~20 min to bake the pizza, so I would advise against showing up hangry. This was more than enough food for two, and we ended up taking 2/6 slices home. Please note that they also have a list of sauces you can pay for to dip your pizza/bread in. We also ordered drinks, which they had the bar capacity for. My partner appreciated that they had non-alcoholic beer options and I tried their French 75 iteration that used persimmon liqueur. It was a really balanced cocktail, and I'm excited to work my way through their intentionally crafted mixed drinks menu (it's separated into classics and their fun takes by notes). The service was fantastic. Our server (Lindsey?) was very warm, knowledgeable, and helpful. She gave us her honest thoughts and made everything sound so good. The space and the vibe were so comfortably yet classy. It makes for the perfect date night/friend hangout spot (good for groups).
