As a performer, these boots are an essential part of my stage outfits and absolutely irreplaceable. I explicitly told the guy that they shouldn't be polished, as they have a brushed leather finish. He assured me he would use a neutral cream to clean them up while maintaining their look. I trusted him. He charged me $65, explaining that he would replace the soles. He even showed me two options--one looked like a Vibram hiking sole (which I immediately rejected), and the other was acceptable. Since he's the only repair shop around, and I like to support small businesses, I went ahead with it, expecting a proper refurbishment. What he failed to mention was that he was only replacing the heel, not the full sole--for $65! That's outrageous! When I picked them up, I was furious. He had used something shiny that completely altered the brushed finish I specifically told him to preserve. Not only did he not replace the full heel, but the bottom of the shoe was still dirty! He didn't even bother to clean them. The leather now feels dry, not restored. When I pointed out that the polished look ruined the finish, he actually told me it would "go back to the old look once I wear them." Seriously?! That is not how leather works. This place is a ripoff and will never get my business again. If I could give zero stars, I would. If you care about your shoes, find another repair shop--even if you have to travel to get there! PS I wish I had read this first from Wiki before taking my boots to Boris: "To clean brushed leather, gently remove dust and dirt with a soft-bristled brush, then use a damp cloth with a mild leather cleaner to wipe the surface in a circular motion;avoid soaking the leather, and finish by applying a waterproofing agent to protect it; do not use creams or waxes on brushed leather as it can damage the texture."

I brought in a jumpsuit for minor underarm repairs (about 1 inch on each side) and basic cleaning. I was quoted $32 for the repairs and $25 for cleaning--a total of $57 for a single garment. They also wanted to charge $20 just to remove some lint from a coat on top of the cleaning. I did not leave the coat as the quote for cleaning and lint removal was more than the coat is now worth. It's clear these people will charge as much as they can. Unfortunately, there are few cleaners in Harlem, but at this rate, I'd rather travel across state lines to New Jersey. Ridiculous! I did not leave the coat for service, as I could not justify paying these fees. But I did pay $57 for the jumpsuit because I had to have it repaired ASAP. If you're looking for fair pricing for basic repairs or cleaning, I would suggest looking elsewhere.
